This is where those numbers somebody else posted that suggest MAC is average come into play. We have no idea what these coaching candidates think of MAC. When he got hired he was well respected league wide & definitely has his pipeline. No body is arguing hes incompetent but rather that hes missed on a bunch of picks.Despite this hes a former exec of the year(which i promise means more in league circles than folks on here) Has built the start of a core w the likes of Darnold/Adams/Anderson etc, & has put the team in position to make major moves w over 200M in cap space over the next 2 seasons. Dont mistake this as me defending MAC but rather suggesting what these coaching candidates will be looking at when it comes to MAC & despite what everybody wants to think its not all bad & until said otherwise coaching candidates feelings on him should be considered on a case by case basis
Well reasoned. I think a lot of guys here - at least speaking for myself - are just afraid that keeping Macc risks keeping the best HC candidates out of reach, and even if it doesn't how can we expect Macc to significantly improve over his track record? We need him - or his replacement - to do MUCH better. More than simply better picks and signings, is that he show us he has a damn plan or vision for this team, other than "I'll take whatever BPA drops to me".
Very valid and all great points. We all have no clue what is going through the Harbaugh bro's minds, or Shanahan, or any other candidate, I just think the bigger the name, the more control and power they want over personnel decisions. Now of course this could be offset if they have a GM in mind they would love to work with, or if they know Maccagnan and want to work with him, I just am not as optimistic about that.
I can easily see a scenario where McCarthy or harbaugh come on with the stipulation that they have complete roster control and mac takes on more of a negotiator/cap guy .
100%. It could be any sort of dynamic/arrangement but we have no idea what any of these coaches think of MAC & i guranatee it has alot more to do than 4 years of drafting for the worst HC in football
I'm warming to McCarthy but listening to talk radio, he seems to be very thin-skinned, doesn't take media or fan criticism well and that's in a small, super-homer market like Green Bay. No idea if that's true or not but he might not even think about coming to NY/NJ, which would be a shame.
To me, there are: 1. Retreads who have been out of football for a while 2. Retreads who just got fired from a team for whatever reason 3. Retreads who are now coordinators I'd avoid category 1 as the game has likely passed them by. I'd strongly consider 2 as long as the reason for the firing was that it was time for a change like McCarthy. I'd be slightly open to 3, but these are likely guys who aren't cut out to be HC's.
Isn’t Shannahan the one who also drafted Kirk Cousins because he thought Kirk would make a better QB than RG3?
He had problems with Dan Reeves, when Mike Shannahan took over, the offensive philosophy was better for Elway. Then Terrel Davis came along and well you know the rest. Shannahan was also very high on Pat Mahomes and said during an interview that he was going to be an excellent NFL QB with some experience due to Pats ability to do things that you can’t teach, it was instinctive.
Just to change things up I'd like us to go full retard and literally go big game hunting for a head coach, firing Bowles on Black Monday and introducing a wild 1,200 lb Kodiak Bear as our head coach
When I started looking at other Head Coach options, it also made me think how terrible Todd Bowles is. Like, in an obvious, he should have been gone after 2016 or possibly never even hired way. When you make a list of current NFL Head Coaches, he is at the bottom. I just read Elway may fire Vance Joseph. He is another no brainer that can easily be upgraded. I think I would throw Dirk Koetter in there too. Why not try someone else? It is common sense.
Charley Casserly really pushed for him. He loved Bowles as a player. Somehow he convinced us to hire him. Marrone was the guy who we were supposed to hire and then Girlish Mehta went on a hate spree against him. Marrone is kind of flaky so who knows if that would've worked out either but Marrone at least has brain cells unlike Bowles Joseph is definitely gone in Denver. Elways knows a dolt when he sees one. How Bowles was allowed to last after 2016, when that team (which had talent) outright quit and the locker room was torn apart as clueless Todd was totally in over his head is beyond me. Even 2016 look how lucky we were to even get to 10-5. We should've lost both the Dallas and Giants game. We lost to the Texans with TJ Yates at QB. We walk into Buffalo and totally get stomped by Rex who coached circles around toilet. Earlier in the year we were 2-0 playing a garbage Eagle team at home...lose Give Rex the 2015 Jets and guaranteed we're in the playoffs
Then you throw in the fact that during the time the Jets wasted with Bowles as Head Coach, quality coaches like Matt Nagy, Frank Reich, Sean McVay, Doug Pederson, etc were all hired by other teams and are succeeding it becomes even more upsetting.
Especially Reich. Look at how the Colts have seemingly fallen ass backwards into a good coach after nearly hiring that two faced scumbag from New England And we just sat their with Bowles. What the heck did the Johnsons see to stick with this guy for 4 full years? No progress was ever made
