"I really like Mahomes, but with the Jets' situation, wouldn't have taken him." - NCJf, April 29, 2017 So, you and MacCagnan were in agreement then. How did that change now?
@NCJetsfan I just looked up your old Mahomes posts and you were nowhere near as high on him as you've been claiming.
Mac has to go. He [did hit some draft picks.] He [did hit some FA signings.] He [did hit some UDFA signings.] Unlike his HC. So he has to go too. [I don't know how that works. But well. That's the motto these days, right?]
This is what gets me. Sure he is doing ok at some points in the draft, but he has build a flawed roster and is not drafting players that can stick in the league at an alarming rate.
This is the smoking gun stat. No way to build a sustainable, talented roster with this many draft blunders. Like a lot of us have been saying Mac has many more misses than hits.
He was too focused on the skill positions. RB and WR. Sam has that great young WR group, Devin Smith, Chad Hansen and Adarius Stewart to grow with.....
I'm definitely higher on him now than I was, but please don't insult me by telling me that you can read my mind based on some old posts. As I've said before, I never thought Mac would take Mahomes, and for that reason, I pretty much dismissed the idea. It wasn't that I didn't want Mahomes or wasn't high on him. It was just a matter of why obsess about him and keep wanting him when I never thought it would happen? I was trying to convince myself that Adams was the best choice, because I was certain that if Adams was there, he would be the pick. I loved Adams, and if we hadn't needed a QB so badly and Mahomes/Watson weren't there, I would have wanted Adams. But we did need a QB, and when your team is in desperate need of a QB and a highly-rated QB prospect is sitting there in your lap, you have to take him.
Andy Reid and Sean Payton are well ahead of the offensive curve. IMO even ahead of McVay. Andy orders BBQ and watches Mid-American Conference games, and implemented play designs from college into the NFL. Reid knew what he was doing, it takes a great coach to get that sort of talent to produce at the next level. No coach in the last 15-20 years has gotten more out of their QB then Andy Reid. The college game on O is 5 to 10 years ahead of the NFL game. If the Jets had Reid, Mahomes would be the QB, but that wasn't the case. Only 2 teams were that high on Mahomes. Notably 2 teams that already had QBs.
I did not go back and read thru the pages did anyone post the Mac article that appeared on the side of the home page ? IF not someone should,,please show Mac the door , hell Bowels can hold it open for him and they can both share an Uber
Ouch. But but but some posters see it, have better gut instincts, have better common sense, a better eye for talent. Are "right". Or maybe they develop all of that and boast about it after they see the player play. Besides, my 20-20 vision point had nothing to do with the QBs.
Stewart, Hansen and Donahue--3, 4 and 5--all gone and out of the league within one year. Look, the Hack pick was awful but he was shooting for the moon. Missing on those 3 guys that quickly is pitiful.
And the hits and the few UDFAs that have worked out, on balance, don't cut it. I liked the trade up for Shell, the 7th rounder for Anderson was brilliant, Lac has been solid, Robby, Myers and Luvu were nice finds, I still this the 2 CBs taken at the end of the 2017 draft could turn out to be players but the rest? Awful.
Your post makes no sense. we should hire a roulette wheel for a GM, according to you this guy was hired because of his supposed stud-liness of drafting in contrast to Idzik who was more a capologist He has been a dud. Look at his body of work --forget the anecdotal stuff where you accuse of hindsight. Our roster is swiss cheese. we have seen nothing of what we hoped when hiring a Houston guy. No Arian Fosters, no pulling linebacker studs out of his butt in the second and third rounds, or Hopkins in the 3d. We hired the wrong guy. 4 years is enough of a sample to judge his actual drafts. You can't even say what his vision of a team is; it's certainly not to draft the guys the HC was supposedly asking for
Geezuz--I'm not defending Mac. He's been awful. Just pointing out the propensity of folks to look back NOW and say "he shoulda taken...". And I'm not talking about the QBs.
Yup they didn't think KC would jump ahead of them. They were totally outmaneuvered. That's one of the reasons Arians quit. The fact is Arians carried the Cardinals and Kiem got an extension. AZ is in complete free fall just like the Jets. Kiem should be fired this year but I'm not sure Bidwill will do it since he extended him after last years draft debacle. Another Jet like move by the owner. It's sort of like when we waited to draft Favre and ended up with Browning Nagel. It had an amazing domino effect for years.
Curious....did the Cards just not have the draft capital and/or trade pieces that they could've traded up? Or did they just think that Mahomes would fall that far? If the latter, then their GM is just as stupid as Macc.
