It definitely sucks and I wish him a quick recovery. He really hasn’t been all that bad this year and I think he definitely improved from last season. Mind you he’s a 5th rounder that is a starter. We have him under contract for another year so it we can see if he’s worth keeping after the 2019 season.
It doesn't give any details on what " pretty bad " means.......we all figured he was done for the last two games. Will he be back for training camp ??
He is a decent right tackle. Will most likely never make a pro bowl and can get manhandled at times against the all pros such as Watt, Wake, etc. but a decent player and a good find by Mac. You can't have pro bowlers and all pros at every position but Shell can be a keeper as a RT and I imagine his play will improve once the left side of the line is adequately rebuilt.
Even with all of the above, I think it would behoove the Jets to bring in a RT as insurance (someone better than Qvale). There are some good RT prospects in the draft, and a couple who may be available in FA. If Shell suffers lasting effects or isn't ready to start next season, we'll be in trouble.
I'd like to add that even though most of the starters need to be replaced/reshuffled the back ups in my opinion are barely capable of playing in the NFL. The depth should be improved as well....
So, did it end up being ACL? The article didn't even say. I'm so sick of dumbass Bowles being so vague about everything. Lots of talk about needing surgery but no mentions about if it's ACL, MCL or what. Those things kind of matter. LOL @ "Doesn't look good." You know what else doesn't look good? Bowles in Jets attire.
Silly question, but why does it matter? Would it matter to anyone that it was an MCL versus an ACL, considering it's going to require surgery? Maybe it's both? Or maybe there was also cartilage damage? Maybe it was the patella tendon? How does it matter and to whom? Maybe there is so much damage, or the area is so swollen that they don't know the extent of the injury. Other than he's going to have surgery. For a really bad injury. I'm guessing in the coming weeks we'll have a better sense of the surgery and the time frame for recovery.
I guess I just feel bad for the guy, and hope that it's something minor. Also Bowles grinds my gears these days. With most other teams, you know the information almost right away with major injuries like this.
Lol Whut? I can see Bill Belli, the best coach in the sport running up to the podium to fill us in on the exact nature and extent on an injury.
It matters because it’s the rules. The rules that the player’s union and league agreed on. The rules that everyone else follows
Yup. Sprained MCLs do not require surgery so whether it's ACL, MCL, PCL, PML, LCL or the patella tendon, if it requires surgery it's going to be a while. If it's multiple ligaments or total reconstruction--we're not seeing him in 2019. Even if it's just the ACL.
The question, is 8 months of rehab enough to recover from knee surgery. Jan thru Aug. hope he is fully good to go by last pre-season game that would give him 2 weeks of training before 1st game of the season. Knee injuries are tricky, hope he gets surgery ASAP & hope he is a fast healer.
Although I think Shell is a decent starter, and I hope that his injury isn't that serious, I think this injury potentially could be a blessing in disguise. While there may not be an optimal LT in the 2019 draft, I believe there are a couple of RT prospects who could be optimal and some pretty good ones (possibly better than Shell) who might be available in FA. While we need to upgrade the LT, LG and C positions more than we do the RT position, we may not have that option. Depending upon the severity of Shell's injury, we may have to add another RT now, and we could wind up both with a much better RT and better depth at RT than Qvale. If nothing else, it could put more pressure on Mac to focus on the OL in this draft and force him to trade down and take a RT rather than staying put and taking an edge rusher. As a result, we could add some very good players with the additional picks. Edwards of Wisconsin is an excellent RT prospect. Risner of Kansas is also an excellent RT prospect as well as a very good, if not excellent C prospect.
Jets injury report: They will be down four offensive starters on Sunday. The latest casualties: WR Quincy Enunwa (ruled out) and RT Brandon Shell (knee surgery). The team is optimistic that Shell will be ready for the offseason program.RT Brandon Shell underwent knee surgery today and is home recovering. Todd Bowles didn't reveal the exact injury, saying it's "too complicated" to explain. "I wasn't a medical major," he said. He said it's beyond the typical ACL/MCL/PCL injury. He said no timetable has been set. This could impact Shell's availability for next training camp
