The Jets had something this year that they haven't had in a long time....GOOD FIELD POSITION. Roberts set the Jets up in good field position all year. Short field helped the offense, they just weren't able to score TD's in the red zone. Which brings me to Myers, his big leg & accuracy was what kept the Jets in a lot of games Ala Colts game where he had 7 field goals. If the Jets are smart they won't let these guys get away. We have the cap space to pay the guys so don't try to lowball them. They are worthy of a good contract.
Add Henry Anderson to that list. Besides his 2 blocked kicks, he's probably the best D lineman on the roster. What's he have now 5-6 sacks?
Jets must keep Myers & White Mo Milkerson. Roberts I would retain as well, but won't be totally devastated if he's not kept.
Henry Anderson is only effective because Leonard Williams is getting triple teamed on every snap. I'm kidding of course.
I get very nervous watching Roberts return kicks and punts. He gives the ball up too much for my liking.
Besides, the Jets only have 29 players under contract. They're not gonna be able to sign 24 outside players to FA contracts.
That's correct and the first instinct should be to take care of your own. Anderson is a player and credit Mac for getting him cheap. Letting him walk now would be absolute stupidity...same for Myers.
Williams just appears to be double and triple teamed because he's so fat o lineman can't get around him
Cute buuuuut some what true. Its no coincidence Anderson is having a career year this year while still putting up fewer stats than Williams. While Anderson has 3 more sacks then Williams this year every single other stat Williams while having a highly questionable year has still done better overall. Qb pressures QB hits tackles for loss solo and assisted tackles. All while ranking out top 10 most double teamed player in the league currently (think he's #9 after Texans game). I am seriously looking forward to having both of these guys inside if the jets are able to secure an edge rusher this offseason.
I like Myers. He gets a pass for the two missed extra points on Saturday. They didn't cost us. Otherwise he's 31-33 and 6/7 from 50+. For a little guy he's got a powerful leg. Hope we bring him back
The first miss wasn't even on him. The snap was very high - almost uncatchable. He had to stop slightly adjust then kick...second miss was kinda close right over the upright. Bottom line is he nails the 55 yarders....so I would be willing to overlook a couple of x points for that very good chance of a long 3 pointer....
Good point. Actually didn't notice how bad the first snap was If we're going to be good in the future having a top kicker makes a difference. Look at New England they have had two awesome kickers throughout the course of their dynasty. They didn't cut corners there. In a game of inches it always helps to be able to steal 3 points at the end of a half or prevent a game from going into OT with some last second drive and then nailing a 55-60 yarder
The game has changed so drastically over the past 10-15 years...now it's a must that your kicker routinely hits the 50-55 yarders in another 5 years they'll gonna have to routinely hit 55-60 yarders. Pat Leahy the Jets kicker from 1974-1991 did not hit a 50 yarder until 1984.....!! Of course the move out of Shea had something to do with that but a 50+ yard FG was still a wow factor back then for every team.
