McCoy, LaVante David, JPP off the top of my head. That defense has some talent on it, but Mike Smith is just not a good coach or coordinator in 2018. The end of his Falcons tenure was a mess and in the last three years they've turned it around to get back to where they were in the prime years of Mike Smith. He's an old school guy and that doesn't work anymore.

Unlikely to be successful....even more unlikely to happen...but fun "chimera" of retreads...madden football of coaching

    Harbaugh - HC
    Shanahan - OC
    Rex - DC

Why would he leave Stanford? Doesn't he make like $7 mil a year?

It would be counter intuitive and against conventional org charts to ha
Sean Payton has a similar resume.

While being considered a contender certainly doesn't guarantee championships, having the right components which make the team up to be a contender (FQB and FHC) keeps you in the discussion. This also is evidence that winning SBs is really an amazing accomplishment because sometimes things just don't break your way.

I am fully supportive of finding a FHC and not a hot coordinator.

So we should hire Mike Shanahan because Mike Smith is too old school?

Perhaps I'm taking too much context from the thread-- the thread is largely a discussion of the idea of Mike Shanahan (with a smattering of McCarthy) taking over as HC. The item you responded to was me offering that Mike Smith would be better than either of those, to which you posited (I'm paraphrasing here) that Mike Smith is too old school.

Care to offer a retread who isn't too old school?

Chris to Woody : "Time to get some big name Coach bro..Oh look who I found direct from the mothballs Mike Shanahan!"

When your kid carries a better rep than you have garnered in football that says it all..lol

Why cant they just post the job "experienced HC wanted" and go though the due diligence of 4 or 5 candidates instead of leaking this nonsense about hiring a dinosaur?

Answer: the Johnsons are too busy with plans for 200 guests at New Years

To all those saying no one else is interested in Shanny there are reports out there that Elway wanted to hire him last year but was overruled by ownership and ended up keeping Joseph. With Joseph certainly getting canned this year he will try to hire him again.

With that said, hopefully he does.

Small game hunting Anthony Lynn (our own former assistant head coach) is quietly doing a fine job for the Chargers

Is big game just a way to divert criticism of the shoddy product over the last many years?

Mike Shanahan is aiming high? And what exactly did the Parcellian turnabout give me in the end? Other than a shitty traffic circle, nothing, that's what. Watch someone say that hated word that makes me want to stab myself in the face with a plastic picnic fork: respectability. Parcells, slowly I turned . . . Sorry, I'm working through a headcold and I'm cranky.

Well, the Jets don't have their own home so . . .

I love dragging this out of the vault whenever opportunity presents. RIP Bela Lugosi. I love him. As everyone who knows me knows, I named my late shelter dog after him because he had a Widow's Peak. So do I; and I'm sure if that dog could talk it would be in a Hungarian accent. "Bella, what a nice name for a girl dog." "It's Bela, with one L, the male form. He's a boy." I was waiting for someone to ask me if my dog was LBGT. I mean, Kerry is a girl's name, and no-one ever questioned Kerry Rhodes. Anyway, the Jets have no home. What was this about again?

Too bad the Ravens have turned things around. I don't see John Harbaugh fired if the Ravens make the playoffs, but we can hope.

We'll have to respectfully agree to disagree. I don't think the word "great" and either man belong in the same paragraph, much less the same sentence.

Things indeed may have changed. His contract was extended through 2019 just prior to this seasons, If I'm not mistaken, I believe that it was a mutual decision for him to leave following this season, at least that's what was written in the article I read a month or so ago. Thus, even if the Ravens have changed their minds and want him to stay, he may decide that he doesn't want to stay. They could try to force him to stay for one more year, but that would backfire, so he's still a possibility. At least I hope that he is.

While we are at it, why don't we add the 85' Bears defense and the 2000 Rams offense
