Won't believe its our turn till I see it. Decades of shitty football and currently 8 years out of the playoffs with three straight years of 5 wins or less. Bad owner, GM, and HC. Been a fan too long to blindly believe things are turning around.
Might have to share it with Buffalo if Allen turns out to be the real deal. Jets have to be aggressive in getting weapons for Darnold, building a wall in front of him to give him the best chance to succeed. Extend Robby, break the bank for Leveon Bell. Start there this offseason.
I know Brady is near the end but who is to say NE won't be able to rebuild with another QB. Also Allen is starting to show some flashes of being a good QB just like Darnold has. Until the Jets actually show they can be a good football team on the field I won't believe they will be dominating anything. I have had more than my share of Charlie Brown trying to kick the football from Lucy moments with this team then I care to admit.
I suspect once Brady goes BB will be gone soon after and the Pats* will end up in the middle of the pack. It's looking like Allen vs. Darnold will be the rivalry to watch for the next decade. I would love to see this turn into the old Steelers v. Ravens where you know both are going to the playoffs and it's just a matter of who wins the division and who is a wildcard team. Darnold truly showed in the last two weeks what he can become in this league. The future is bright if they don't fuck up the coaching search. Some talent around him , especially on o-line to keep him healthy (see Andrew Luck as example A) and the sky is the limit.
Very possible.......the Jets need to build an offense around him. I like being on this side though....where I see a franchise QB who needs help rather than a good on paper offense with an average-below average QB. The sky is the limit at this point.......up to $100 million to spend this off season and 4 draft picks in the top 100 with the first one being up around #5.
Important to know that we currently only have 29 players under contact beyond this season. That’s the lowest in the league. A lot of that cap space will go towards resigning our guys or finding comparable replacements.
Yeah I know. I don't see too many of them I'd like for the Jets to re-sign...most of the FA signings come days after the dust clears - the bargain bin players. Also a lot of college FAs after the draft. I do expect the Jets to sign four maybe five major FAs ( not counting any of their own )...two/three on offense and two on defense.....
I wouldn't say it's dreaming, I believe Sam will be better than Josh, however I think both teams have found their FQB & will make for real rivalry in the Afc East. I don't think one will own the division. Once these two QB'S hit their stride, Billy & Brady will be nearing the end of their careers & the Afc east will be wide open & ripe for the pickin for the Sam era , the next 10 to 18 years.
Makes me wonder what Namath and Marino could do with today's rules. They'd slice up every defense they'd face.
Or Jim Kelly, or Warren Moon, or Steve Young, or..... At the same time, I wonder how sad the careers of guys like Kenny Easley, or Ronnie Lott, or Ken Houston, or Jack Tatum, or Steve Atwater would look if they spent their whole careers suspended, or riding the bench for giving up massive penalty yards every snap.
I was trying to stay in the AFC East...and I don't see those guys as on par with Namath & Marino when it comes to pure passing finesse. Jack Tatum would simply resort to beating up the refs.
Holy shit--Namath put up 4000 yards in a 14 game season and it wasn't done again for 15 years, and then in a 16 game season. Marino put up 5000 yards and it wasn't done again for 24 years. All when defenses were permitted to mug receivers and destroy QBs. Namath and Marino would be putting up 6000 yard seasons.
Namath and Marino are still in a class of their own. The best pure passers ever to play. Still, I'm convinced Moon would have destroyed all record books with today's rules.. Got rid of the ball almost as fast as those two, with great accuracy and velocity to spare. Plus he could keep a play alive or make a play with his feet.
I'll give you Moon...but then you got to throw Fouts in the mix. I think you'd have to agree that it was a notch above (as far as on field violence) in the era that Namath played. Things got a bit more civil after that.
Oh yes indeed. Even beyond the modern rules, Namath's whole career played out before the 1978 Rules Changes (the "Mel Blount Rule" and the rule that allows blockers to use their hands and arms as, you know, hands and arms).
