Credit where it’s due, Bowles has been a better coach with his back up against the wall and nothing to lose. He’s been more aggressive in critical situations. Still needs to be fired.
I didn't hear that, but okay. Still, why not make a big deal about it anyway and show you have SOME fire? Put it this way: a baseball manager knows he can't argue balls and strikes, but watches as the ump is hosing his pitcher all game. His team is losing. So he can't change the strike zone, so he gets on the ump and gets himself tossed so he can make a big production out of it and maybe fire his team up. I've seen it work a lot. Sometimes you have to let emotions override "logic" and show that you're fighting with your team against the "system". And if that IS the ruling, the NFL needs to revisit not allowing it to be challenged. What's the difference between doing I.R. on whether the ball "crossed the plane" of the goal line, and crossing the plane of a first down marker? There is none.
Has nothing to do with the goal line. The play wasn't reviewable because the refs blew it dead for forward progress, and forward progress is never reviewable.
No. If that was a play at the goal line, whistle or not, it would've been reviewed. Same thing should apply anywhere on the field.
Now I'm confused because this article says forward progress is reviewable at the first down marker. https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/pereira-yes-forward-progress-can-be-reviewable-122213 "Forward progress is reviewable at the goal line and it is at the line to gain, the first-down line."
No he hasn't he's been as dumb as ever. what the heck you talking about. He doesn't double J.J. Watt even though everyone doubles Watt... He tries to get by on covering Hopkins without adjusting his man defense so he ends up not being covered by the best corner, even though everyone puts their best corner on Hopkins.... surprise surprise.. Watt and Hopkins both KILL the Jets. Texans win. Bowles is a dumbass
I'm sure the technology exists to electronically pick up the whistle and have a symbol come on the screen when it is detected. Probably could even be set up to show which official was first. That would give you an exact spot if they're relying on forward progress rather than down by contact.
And "somehow" Bowles - a guy who has been involved in the NFL for years - didn't know that. Or he did know that, but was asleep on the job. Either way it's simply more proof that the guy is incompetent, and the Johnsons, by allowing him to remain employed are just as incompetent.
Sounds to me like he wanted to but the ref told him he couldn’t. Once the ref says you can’t challenge it’s pretty much a done deal. The nfl refs have been pretty horrible this year. That they mishandled that situation should not surprise anyone.
Even so, Bowles should've pitched a fit. It probably wouldn't have changed their ruling, but it might well have fired up his players. If nothing else, it might've indicated to the Johnsons that he wasn't sleeping.
Seriously. Any emotion at all. Only thing I ever see from him is the occasional smarmy look when something doesn't go his way. Almost makes me miss Rex. Almost.
Meh. I’ll kill the guy for coaching decisions and the staff he assembled but I just can’t criticize him because he doesn’t show what some deem to be the correct amount of emotion. No speaking of the coaching staff he assembled, Bates has all week to script the first series of plays and this is what we get
Not challenging calls IS a "coaching decision", and Bowles is abysmal at it. And a HC showing NO passion about what's happening on the field doesn't do his team any favors. Not saying he needs to be Rex or Billy Martin, but showing that's he's as emotionally invested as his players sets an example. But even if you disagree that he should've uses that as an opportunity to fire up the team, if nothing else he could've at least used the time as an "unofficial time out" while the officials spent time explaining to him why he couldn't challenge (which is false btw). That would require him to be able to think on his feet, which apparently is impossible since if Bowles is standing all the blood flows from his head and cuts off his reasoning capacity.
I wonder how quickly after Week 17 does the firing go down. Post-game? Black Monday? Or will it drag out a bit?
Two things to say: 1. #FreeSam #FireBowles 2. Bowles should be fired. AT THE FIRING RANGE. [Am I being racist here? To hell with that shit.]
Article by Fat Cannizzaro from The New York Post. He actually lost weight, and isn't as fat as he used to be. Here's an excerpt, and the article on Bowles looming pink slip is very fair and actually pretty good: “It’s phenomenal playing for coach T. Bowles, man,’’ second-year safety Jamal Adams told The Post. “It ain’t his fault. Everybody wants to put the blame on the head coach. But at the end of the day, the players go on the field and we play football.’’ Adams has been Bowles’ most vocal advocate as whispers of his impending ouster have grown to screams. “It’s part of the business, man,’’ Adams said with some resignation in his voice. “Hopefully, he stays. That would be my choice.’’ Adams revealed that he plans to request a meeting with “the guys upstairs’’ after the season “just to get on the same page, because we’re in this together.’’ “We’ve got to change this organization, man,’’ Adams said. “This organization hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2010. Come on, man. It’s about to be 2019. I came into high school in 2010. It’s about time. You got to change it up. It’s all about being on the same page and seeing what we can do to get better. It’s about winning championships, it’s not about losing. It’s just been too long of a stretch for the organization.’’ Link: https://nypost.com/2018/12/22/where-bowles-can-take-some-solace-as-expected-firing-nears/
It seems that Adams has a very low opinion of both the players and the front office, but for some reason thinks the coach is without blame. I find that attitude completely bizarre.
