This game goes in the same box as the one Branch Rickey used to pull gems like: "Addition by subtraction" when he answered a question about sending a star player to another team (I believe it was Hank Greenberg)...in other words, "I got rid of this guy who was a negative force to the team chemistry and we're better off for it". In that sense, we had "Winning by losing" yesterday, when we saw Darnold grow up and become the leader we need, and even RA put out the best effort he's had that I can remember, but in the end we retain our quest for the best draft position.
Not to get off the topic, but i don't think Hank Greenberg ever played for Branch Rickey. Hank played almost his entire career (except for the last season on the Pirates) with the Detroit Tigers. At that time Branch Rickey was develpping talent for the St. Louis Cardinals then the Brooklyn Dodgers. Now back to your regularly scheduled program .
Like I said, I wasn't sure who he was referring to. I did some searching and only found that he was credited with saying that in a more general way, but I couldn't find any specific player. In any case, it's still a valid concept.
There are games like these and the Texans game the teams who are winners, find a way to win. We're not there yet but I anticipate us winning these games NEXT YEAR. No more excuse, Spent the fuking money, Build a Line and cut the damn bullshit with the fuking KIDS Experience at the stadium. It feels more like a damn chuck e cheese than an NFL game... I'm really considering giving up my tix. The kids climbing the seats like a jungle gym, standing up during the game.... I have no issue w/kids at the game, I actually love seeing it but the lack of discipline from the parents and the amount of "Family Friendlly" bullshit this team pedals out instead of FIXING THE TEAM is too much for my fuking green blood. That couple of G's next year is 1 iota away from going to remodeling the basement.... Yea, I know they don't gas and they already said FU to all season tix holders but a Mass exodus has begun and that's the only way to get their attention.
I sure hope so. The Jets offense is so predictable. 2 running plays for no gain and the entire defense and stadium knows the Jets are gonna pass on 3rd down. It is hard to watch.
Does Bowles have the red flag glued to his pocket? I swear he is terrible at challenges. Am I the only one who was suffering a near rage inducing heart attack when he refused to challenge the spot of the ball on the first half making it a 4th down play? That is not the first time he has missed big plays that should have been challenged. Whoever he has in the booth looking for this stuff is the Todd Bowles of reviews. I'm not sure he is capable of hiring anyone who can help us.
Challenge it and use the time to come up with a play to run just in case you don't win the challenge. The stupidity is real with Todd.
