ehh the Falcons are terrible. they would've lit them up regardless. It was definitely time for a change in Green Bay but I'm not gonna let the 1 year or, even 1 game, cloud the guy's 12 year head coaching resume. He would bring so much to the table here. Finally a winning culture. finally a coach who knows offense and QBs. finally some Hope
damnit ... well I mean I don't mind McCarthy I guess ... I wouldn't mind John Harbaugh and that OC from Tampa Bay
I’ll take John harbaugh McCarthy Pete Carmichael In that order. Lamar Jackson is going to keep harbaugh in Baltimore though.
He is one of my top 3 choices now that Jim is off the table and DeFilippo doesn't look that good. I just hope he's Andy Reid as opposed to Jeff Fisher. Who had a lot of success with the Titans before he became a dinosaur.
If this year is any indication, then DeFilippo is very underwhelming. Minnesota's O has been rather pedestrian for most of this season. With Thielen, Diggs, Cook, Rudolph and Cousins you'd think they'd have much better offensive output. Also just watching his play calling tonight not impressed with him at all.
I'll take McCarthy at this point. Bring back Pettine too. The offense won't be innovate, but it would provide a good foundation for Darnold to grow as a QB. Hopefully Brant Boyer is retained as special teams coach.
There are currently 43 people listed as backers of DeFilippo here. How many would care to change their vote after witnessing the play calling on that last series for Minnesota? Truly Batesian.
It will be interesting to see what happens with John Harbaugh. With the Ravens playing so well and in the playoffs (I think), will they be able to put their differences aside, or will it still be a mutual decision to part ways? If he stays in Baltimore, then my picks for the HC position would be: 1. Mike McCarthy 2. Dave Toub 3. Pete Carmichael 4. Matt La Fleur
You know, I like Carmichael as an offensive guy with probably the best resume on that side of the ball and for grooming quarterbacks but I see almost nothing about him administratively on the field. It is not an easy task to coordinate the efforts of a couple of dozen coordinators and position coaches; I wonder if he's up to that challenge. If he's the guy though, I'd like to see him drag his line coach along with him as OC, even if Carmichael ends up doing most of the play calling himself.
He won't even be able to get a job as an OC next year. It's pretty clear the brains behind the Eagles was Reich.
I said in the game thread Boyer should be retained. Than Roberts muffed a punt.. but yea he should be considered. As for pettine, I’d rather move a way from a 3-4 base. My preference, but wouldn’t complain too much I guess
He does deserve some consideration to stay, I don't remember many big plays given up by our special teams as well. Jets do need a coach that looks at the players on defense and doesn't stronghold them into a specific scheme. Apparently, Pettine has runs both, but I do prefer a coordinator that wants to generate pressure with 4 to 5 guys. Pettine maybe more blitz happy.
As we move toward the playoffs running the ball and defense is showing up. With all the innovation Seattle beat up Flip's O and ran the ball down MN's throat. 42 rushes last night. Classic old school football and Flip had zero answers with lots of weapons. The NFC is going to have Dallas and Seattle in the playoffs, don't be shocked if boy genius McVay doesn't go from King Kong to zippy the chimp. It's amazing to me the Rams with all their Defensive talent is ranked in the bottom half of the league in both yards and points allowed. While I think McVay is one of the brightest young Head Coaches in the league, the rank of his D with that talent is embarrassing.
Ummm. Well Colts did get shut out last week and they're only struggling for a wild card spot. So not sure about that one.
