Excellent point. HC candidates are easy to spot. We see them on the sidelines or in the booth during games. Numerous articles are written about the hot HC candidates each season. I may be mistaken, but I think the only time the "hot" GM candidates are mentioned is when a team is actively looking for its next GM. Even then, information can be scarce, and there aren't many articles naming names. Even if we googled the Scouting and Personnel Depts. of all 32 teams and came up with a list of names, we wouldn't know who was doing a good job or what their responsibilities were.
Thanks for the list. Three of the candidates sound interesting possibilities along with Elliot Wolf. A BIG NO to Chris Polian, however. He was awful as the Colts' GM. I still think we should have beaten Cleveland to Dorsey last year.
I get why your down on Polian, but look at what he's done in Jax and how their drafting changed when he joined them. Paton is my Favorite of the group. I'm sure there will be a bunch of other candidates, as long as Casserly isn't involved I'll be fine
I should edit it in order of preference. George would be my first choice , followed by Brian, then Joe and Chris in that order.
IIRC, Bill was still the chief decision maker in Indy when Chris was GM. I'm not against hiring him. I like Xanders' record of drafting in Denver. Eliot Wolf remains as my top choice for now.
The Vikings assistant GM is George Paton. I'd love to hire George Patton, but unfortunately he's no longer alive.
Thanks for putting this together. Others have mentioned Eliott Wolfe & i really like Trent Baalke who got a raw deal.Hes been doing nfl consultant work & is a former Jets scout.
Your welcome. I did some research a while ago once Macs job security came into Question. I know Elliot Wolf is getting thrown out there quite a bit but the Packers roster declined the further he advanced and they passed on him when they had him in house. Paton was their first choice and when they couldn't land him, they still passed over Wolf. I'm left wondering why.....
Did the Packers' roster decline because Thompson's skills declined, because he refused to bring in outside FAs while letting their own walk, or is Wolf somehow responsible, partly or otherwise, for the decline? Good question.
Packers have always been sort of against the grain when it comes to FO/coaching hires.Perhaps Wolfe thought nepotism would make him a shoe in & didnt take the process serious. Gm candidates are really hard to sort through unless they have an actual track record.Very rarely do we ever find out who drafted or scouted who.Teams have to review their player evaluations in a vaccuum..course in the Johnsons case a magic trick or witty joke will serve just fine. Thats one of the many reasons i like Baalke. He put a helluva team together most of it via the draft. He never brought home a ring but came damn close so we know he’ll come in hungry & motivated.
From what I remember, Baalke got into a feud with Harbaugh and convinced Jed York to fire Harbaugh. Which was a colossal mistake for the 49ers. So unless I'm wrong about what happened in SF, I want no part of Baalke.

His drafting was pretty bad. Less than a 50% success rate. He inherited a 13 win Super Bowl contender and ran them into the dirt in 3 years.
If true, then we can't hire Baalke and one of the Harbaughs as HC. LOL Baalke may have matured/learned from that mistake. I'd want to know more about the situation. Harbaugh is supposedly "weird" or a "dick" according to some posters, so it may have been primarily his fault. Was Baalke Harbaugh's boss or were they peers, like Bowles and Mac? Then again, if TonyFtLaud is correct about Baalke's poor drafting, it may not matter.
What is it about Wolfe everyone loves other than his last name? I have two major gripes about him, one is obviously the Packers passing over him when everyone thought he was next in line. The other is why didn’t his dad fight for him when we hired Mac and paid his dad lots of money to consult on that hire? Paton is a name that’s been floating around GM openings for years now. I could be wrong but hasn’t he turned down a bunch of chances at interviewing for GM positions? I’m not as convinced that Mac has to go as most but I do think the best situation for the Jets right now is to hire one of the Harbaughs and let them bring a GM with them.
You can check out his drafts on either of the following : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ni.../8/26/17782830/trent-baalke-draft-picks-49ers Tracking 49ers GM Baalke's draft record NBC Sports
Paton has turned down some ant the Vikings have refused others in conference to interview him. Casserly and Wolfe actually steered the Jets away from him in 14 to get Mac hired. May have burned the Jets future chance with him.

But he is widely considered the poison pill for that niners era which for whatever reason I had always thought was Jed York.
