IMO the primary reason it took so long is that Bowles and Bates are stupid and stubborn. While they didn't have a good option to go to as both Harrison and Dozier suck as blockers, at least they can snap the ball reliably.

The only way it made sense to keep Long at C was if he were the only one who could reliably make the line calls, particularly in protection-- but seeing that Long was quite serviceable at LG, he certainly could have made the line calls from that position. As as far as i know, there is no rule that says the C has to make those calls.

Prior to the season starting, Chris Johnson said he wouldn't base the team on wins/losses but on progress. We're 5 games away from the season ending but aside from a few players, what progress has this team shown?

If Chris/Woody decide to keep Maccagnan here, I'd anticipate the move to set the jets back even further.

You cannot reward mediocrity by giving Maccagnan an extension and you cannot allow him to handpick his on HC when most legitimate HC options will look at Maccagnan as a lame duck GM.

You have to let both go once the season ends and focus your efforts on finding a GM/HC duo that have a history/relationship with each other. That way you have a cohesive plan that focuses on Darnold and surrounding him with talent.

A man rubbed a bottle, and a genie popped out. The following conversation ensued:

Genie: You can have one wish.

Man: OK, I want to live forever.

Genie: Sorry, you're asking too much. Try again.

Man: I want to live until the Jets win another Super Bowl.

    Genie: You're a sneaky bastard, aren't you?

If Maccagnan's record were mediocre I could live with the Johnson's retaining him. His record isn't mediocre, it's atrocious.

I'm just saying, it's a lot harder than it sounds. Many people are using hindsight as an argument. Obviously not everybody.

True, but some talent just sticks out on screen, and the Jets pass on them every time for lesser known players.

it's only been 2 years how fast do you want to see a turnaround? we just drafted the QB which is the biggest piece and it takes a couple of years for that to pay dividends. we have holes to address for sure but that's expected in year 2 of a full rebuild.

yes you don't get it since you can't even say a sentence without slinging poorly crafted insult names. jets suck this year, you are angry and throwing blame everywhere. i get it. doens't mean it's logical though

yes he's missed on a lot of picks in rounds 2-4 i never said otherwise so have 80% of the NFL GMs and alot of those missed on 1st rounders and didn't find anyone of value in the late rounds. the issues is as fans we look at the jets in a bubble and set expectations that if they aren't met we get mad. You have to look at things as a whole. even from draft to draft the talent varies some drafts products a large number of busts while others don't. there are so many variables out there fans just seem to refuse to acknowledge

I'm not saying he's doing a great job, but anyone comparing him to Idzik should just quit watching football....

The best GMs make their money in the mid-rounds. The bold is asinine, at best we ask for an average GM that can put pieces together.

Stop telling people to look at things as a whole, thats fluff.

I think Macc has acquired some good young players to build a good nucleus around - Adams, Maye, Jenkins, Lee, Williams, Darnold, Anderson, Shell, Mcguire & Cannon. He's hit on every first round pick and he's found some good players later in the draft or in free agency. His free agent acquisitions have generally been positive additions and he has generally avoided signing bad contracts (Revis & Trumaine Johnson being the exceptions). He has also carefully crafted contracts that for the most part the Jets can walk away from after 2 years. He is the reason we have $100 million in cap space available for next year.

Macc has been stuck with a terrible coach and a bad coaching staff that were Woody's choice and not his own. Bowles needs to go and the Johnsons need to let Macc pick a successor. Let's see the roster he builds using the $100 million in cap space and let's see what a coach he chose does with the roster he selected.

He's better than Idzik, but better than Idzik is not good enough.

Boy, was I wrong about Mac!!! To anyone with whom I vociferously disagreed regarding Mac over the last 4 years, I apologize. You were right, and I was wrong. DEAD WRONG!

    He definitely has to go.

That said, I will say that the winning percentage stat above is skewed, and one has to take into consideration that only Idzik and Mac were in a peer relationship with their HC. All the previous GMs hired the HC so could fire him or order him to make certain changes. If Mac could have hired and fired his HC rather than being a "peer" with him, I think his winning percentage would have been higher/more respectable, but he still wouldn't have been good enough.

Nothing would have helped Idzik. When you have a 12-player draft and only hit on one of them, you are totally clueless and incompetent.

Most of what you say above is true, but I don't agree that McGuire and Cannon are pieces or that Mac should get to stay and hire the new HC. They still may develop, but Cannon has done nothing so far, and McGuire hasn't done much more.

That said, Mac needs to go imo. He hasn't done enough. He didn't have to take the job where he would be a peer with the HC, but he opted to do it. The only way I'd want to keep Mac is if one of the Harbaughs is willing to take the HC job with the proviso that they get major input and final say so on personnel, and are OK with Mac staying and basically being here to negotiate contracts, oversee the Scouting Dept. (with Harbaugh's approval), and be the contact person for FAs and trades. Mac would report to Harbaugh rather than vice versa. In effect, Harbaugh would be both the HC and VP of Football Ops.

I am trying hard to figure out Mac’s plan and his envisioned. After 4 years, you would think he has or niche for the type of players he wants. I mean look at Ozzie Newsome. He s taking a big ILB. He s done well. Athletic big TEs, big strong top OLs. Big but fast WRs. I see no flow no continuity in Macs draft selections plans except for selecting OL late in rounds and RBs mid rounds.

Don't worry about it. With the exception of some genuinely clueless posters, we're all around the same success rate at getting our evaluations right.

I think in terms of getting talent both in the draft and in free agency he’s done generally well for the period he’s been there. He took over an aging roster with pretty much no young talent and no QB and he’s built a decent foundation for the team. He was saddled with a bad coach who should have been fired at least a year ago. Many GMs would have started handing out big fat terrible contracts to over the hill vets figuring that if it blew up later on he’d be gone, but Macc didn’t do that and controlled spending and contracts and now he’s got a lot of money to spend next year, when hopefully the Jets should have a much improved roster and a much better head coach.

They really need an offensively minded head coach with a track record with good young QBs.

I'm not sure who this "solid foundation" is you speak about...we have about 5 or 6 players on this team that are part of our future & 2 are kickers.
