darnold, adams, maye, williams, etc. drafts usually take around 3 years to judge so basically we can only judge fully 2015 and 2016 good starters - williams (1st), Shell (5th), Lee (1st), Edwards (7th) Anderson (UDFA) solid starters/good role players - peake (7th), jenkins (3rd) Bust due to injures - smith (2nd), moulden (3rd) Busts - petty (4th), Hack (2nd), Burris (4th), harrison (5th), Simon (7th) so in the 2 drafts we can really judge he landed on both his 1st rounders and out of 13 picks got 4 good starters plus a good starter from a UDFA, 2 good role players, had 2 bust out due to injury which is just bad luck and picked 4 busts 3 of which were 4th round or later. hack was really the only awful pick he made and it was a desperate flyer on a QB we badly needed.
Mac sucks, and what you presented above does not justify anything in terms of him being a good GM. Wait 3 years? Hell some of the players don't make it to 2 years. Where is Hansen and Stewart on your list? Far more players you are missing here. But you keep trying to tell yourself he doesn't suck. You are alone in that boat buddy.
I The real problem is the Jets hierarchy. Who’s really in charge ? The real owner is in the U.K. his brother is “ acting “ CEO. Mac is the GM but did not choose his own head coach. Both GM and coach report to the “ acting “ CEO. It’s nonsense really....... Look as far as Mac goes he does have value as a front office employee of some type. On the positive side he manages the cap well, acquires great value on his low cost/depth FA signings and makes some pretty shrewd trades. On the negative side his big ticket FA signings come here and seem to flame out for a variety of reasons. For instance he signs Spencer Long as a center. He played terrible. However this week he was switched to guard ( his natural position ) and he played very well. Meanwhile Mac’s drafting - particularly the lower rounds have been below average. It seems he has acquired some decent complimentary pieces such as McGuire, Jenkins, etc. but is missing the blue chippers , the players that go out and win games . There is no #1 WR. Anderson and Enunwa are # 2 WRs....there is no blue chipper on the OL....there is no go to RB. Did anybody really think Crowell was a feature back? There’s a reason the Browns of all teams let him walk.....Lee , Jenkins, and Williamson? Decent players. Where is that pass-rushing OLB demon that will turn this group into a top unit ? Crickets ....for years now. Some will say this is really year 2 in the rebuild do to the Johnsons wanting Mac to try to win with that 2015 roster . Others will say there is $100 million waiting to be spent this offseason and watch this team roll in 2019. We’ve all been down this road before. Who’s to say the top FAs are going to want to sign with the Jets ? And who’s to say any particular player will sign with the Jets and then perform up to his expected standards ? Which is why the draft is so important . And if Mac is let go who takes his place ? While this isn’t what people are going to want to hear it may be the lesser of the two evils to allow Mac to stay and see what he does this off season . Not a pretty picture ...
Alone in that boat and without a paddle. McCagnuts has done a terrible job. LOOK AT THE JETS CURRENT ROSTER--Other than Adams, Darnold, and underachiever Williams, is there anyone worth a crap? I think the biggest indicator (one of the many) of his incompetence is that he came into 2018 relying on 3 rejects who spent time with the winless Browns (Crowell, Pryor, and McCown as a mentor) to take this offense somewhere. Cherry pick from the league's worst franchise. The dumb shit also believes you should not use decent picks on the offensive line, and it shows from the swiss cheese that protects his QB. He also likes to take a number of players in ONE draft at one position-2017 drafting 4 DBs, 2018 using three of six picks on DL. Worked out great, hasn't it McPuke? The jets have so many holes on their current roster thanks to McIdiot you could throw a dart at the map. As long as the jets have McNuts they are going nowhere. Good grief, he has already had 4 years and this year the jets will have the worst record of the 4. Real progress under an GM who only got his job because Charley Casserly liked him, not from anything he ever did.
Yeah, if they knew they were getting Henry Anderson or targeting him, why draft Nathan Shepard? No depth on the offensive line what-so-ever. He let a first year OC, hold a draft pick hostage. I thought Mac was a scout?
obviously Hansen and Stewart are busts but i can't judge that draft as a whole yet. even if i'm alone in that boat here it doens't make me wrong. too many fans think they would do a better job or have unrealistic standards instead of looking at the NFL as a whole and stepping back and seeing how mac compares with the other 31 GMs and their drafts and moves.
You can't judge that draft class? They are not on the roster, you can start judging a draft if the GM is cutting draft picks 1 year after they are getting drafted. Sorry Bowles, but these excuses are pathetic. f Morton asked me to draft Stewart, I would've stuck to my draft board and if he wasn't high on my draft board, I would NOT bend over for some first year coordinator when I was a scout with a great reputation prior. Mac has not been better then any of the GMs in the league since he's been hired, or any of the previous GMs that were hired outside of Idzik and the GM before the current Colts GM. These standards aren't unrealistic. The bold is absolute is fluff. If you were a reputable scout, better believe you better know how to scout good players.
you can judge those 2 players but now the whole draft. adams by year 3 should make a pro bowl, maye is a really good safety as well so i'd say he nailed the 1st 2 picks. for the rest of the draft it's all 5th rounders or later. legget missed his rookie season so he's basically a rookie this year and hasn't played enough to judge. maguire has looked good but also missed the 1st half of this season and our o-line sucked. jones missed his rookie year with injury but has flashed some potential in the off season but hasn't really seen the field yet to judge him. donahue is gone so he's a bust and clark is on the PS so still pending.
So far, only 2 players are real impact players from Week to Week in that draft and thats Adams and Maye. Leggett not proven, McGuire probably 1 or 2 good games, still a work in progress. Too many IFs here also, and IFs in this specific conversation hold no value. You living off these past 2 drafts, find it funny you aren't bringing up his first 2. Oh its because there's only like 4 or so players from both draft classes still on the freaking team.
It's funny when people judge GMs in hindsight as if the choices were obvious at the time and they had the same information we have today. It's still a crap shoot when drafting, there are usually only a few guaranteed players in each draft.
This isn't hindsight, and take yo ass over to the draft forum during that time. Plenty of Godwin posts there, George Kittle, etc .. instead we left with Hansen and Stewart. How do you scout Stewart when he didn't even have an average QB throw him the ball.
I like McGuire. I think he's a real nice player. I'd like to see him utilized more in the passing game out of the backfield.
I think McGuire can become a good 3rd down back, but I do I think he can tote the ball 20 times a game? Probably not. I think McGuire's pro projection is like a Spencer Ware, but with potentially more production in the passing game. But I hope we draft a RB either this yr or next. Check out Iowa State's David Montgomery
It's amazing how much benefit of the doubt you give to Mac and Bowles given how little benefit of the doubt you give to Mayfield. Makes it hard to take you seriously.
You keep grading mac on a curve but that’s not the way it works. It is a pass /fail proposition. Has Mac improved the roster enough in 4 years to continue at this job? I don’t know how anyone answers yes to that.
Why did McIdiot use Four picks in 2017 draft on DBs, and none on OL? Why did he use three (of only 6 total) picks in 2018 draft on DL and none on OL? OL IS the position on the field that requires the most players per snap but Mike McNitwit can't do the math. Why has McTurd drafted only TWO total offensive lineman in 4 years and both in round 5? Why back to back WRs in 2017 draft on Stewart and Hansen, both of whom already gone. . C'mon look at the jets roster, their record the last three years--they are getting WORSE, not better--you REALLY think McNuts should make one more decision for this franchise he has flushed down the toilet?
I was thinking 1st: Trade down, recoup a 2nd, and take a LT 2nd: Montgomery 3rd: C 3rd: Edge/WR/OL I might be overdrafting Montgomery, but he looks like a playmaker who can help Sam.
