WE ARE ALL RUNNING AROUND DOING stuff for the Holiday but don't forget Rangers / Islanders tomorrow nite !!!!
After the thumping the Stars gave them they should be ready to come out swinging. Trotz likes physical play and the islanders are not a physical team. Hopefully it’s not a repeat of the last game. Victory for isles yes, but not the easy goals and shots given to the Rangers.
Hopefully this will remind everyone (not just for the Islanders, but for every team in every professional sport) how the whole "fired up because we were just embarrassed" narrative is rarely correct. Teams follow up bad games with bad games far more often than with good games, because either they're simply bad teams, or they're playing badly at the time. These are professionals - talent and preparation count for vastly more than any sort of emotional motivation. The Islanders were playing better than their talent would predict for a while, and they're not right now. It's instructive to break the season up into 10 game chunks, and so far the Islanders were 5-4-1 in each of the first two chunks. That's about a 90 point pace for the season, and that won't get you into the playoffs. Once they lost Tavares it wasn't too likely they were ever going to get there anyway.
I still think they have a shot at the playoffs but I will settle for a competitive team with this group that is assembled
That’s how I feel; be good enough that the perception of the organization changes as we enter into an off season with money to spend, while also finding a way to get our young players the ice time we need to see whether they should be part of the plan next year. If we make the playoffs that’s just a bonus.
Nice win today over NJ. Barzal with the winner in OT 4-3. Needed that after the terrible game against the Rangers.
Another big win tonight 4-1 over the Canes. 9-1 against Metro teams so its good to see the Isles dominating the division. Big game on Monday vs the Caps. Trotz against his former team should be fun
Yeah, can't wait. Have had Monday and January 18th (Trotz' return to DC) on my mind since he left the Capitals. I am sure he will have a good game plan as he knows the Caps roster as well as any coach can.
Good game, guys! I knew the Isles were in trouble when they dominated that beginning of the 2nd period and couldn't score. The final score was 4-1, but anyone who watched knows it was much closer. Ironically, the Caps played more Trotz hockey tonight than the Islanders did. Overall, I thought the Isles looked good and are on the right path.
I knew the Isles were in trouble when they couldn't cash in on all the PP's they were given. On to Boston this Thursday.
Getting to be par for the course; outplay a team, get PP’s but don’t capitalize. We are a well coached team that is playing hard but at the end of the day don’t have consistent finishers. That’s not a complaint just the reality of the team. They are good enough to compete night in and night out but we can’t fall in love with players who can help us be good but aren’t the answer to becoming elite. And while I agree with the below article about not making any trades, I think we do have to find a way to get some of our younger players up which would come at the expense of said players we wouldn’t trade. All the minors talent you have doesn’t mean anything if you can’t make room for them. https://eyesonisles.com/2018/11/24/new-york-islanders-shouldnt-make-trades/
2-1 SO loss at Boston. Take the point and run. This Saturday night vs CBJ is the 1st game back at Nassau. I expect them to come out flying in this one and get a W. It will be nice to see hockey at the old barn again and playing A REAL HOME GAME.
I try not to get too frustrated because team is doing better than expected. However, the lack of skilled finishers is once again killing this teams opportunity to separate themselves in the standings. Bailey had two open nets that he completely missed and Eberle had a chance to put it away in OT. I hope that there is a trade at some point that brings an elite scorer to help out Barzal and Anders Lee.
This team needs a trade really bad. I have to give them credit for working hard, but as I watch them play against Columbus, Predators, and top skilled teams, they can’t compete. It amazes me how cold they go on offense.
