they would be dumb not to if there is a franchise QB when we pick in the top 5. You dont pass on the next Andrew Luck because you drafted Andy Dalton the prior season. ANY chance you have to get a franchise QB, you take it. period
I dunno. Got to get him exposed to the NFL game speed as much as you can through the good, the bad and the ugly. If We know Bates was definitely coming back for sure then I would understand putting Darnold on the bench with clipboard and headset for the remainder of the year. Webb I definitely want to see. I think he has the right tools.
The kid has played in 9 games and won 3 of them. You think by now he's up to the NFL game speed? Besides, there's nothing more in 2018 he can learn that he won't learn in 2019 with hopefully a better cast to play with. 2019 most likely is the year 2018 was supposed to be.
9 games a lot sure but not enough IMO. Besides he hasn’t played any games vs Buffalo and NE, the teams he will face forever as A Jet uniform. I understand your logic and don’t really disagree except he can’t learn more in 2018. We all certainly hope he is our franchise QB for many years to come that we desperately needed.
He should play every single game he is healthy enough to play. Every single snap, read, formation, INT, TD, fumble, scramble etc is a learning experience.
Pros: Reps is reps and seeing NFL speed/ coverages Cons: Crap supporting cast Coaches putting in the game plan and calling it won't be here next year The two above could lead to more ints/ bad habits which he doesn't need. There is ZERO reason for him to play another snap again this season. Especially in meaningless games and with Bowles and Bates still here. Why risk him getting injured while those two morons damage him over the last 2-3 weeks?
Ladies & gentlemen THAT is why you play Darnold no matter what even in a lost season. What a great win that was. Darnold first career game winning drive and he earned some major league cred today by coming back to play after the injury.
I was glad to see Sam go into a tough Buffalo environment and make some big time throws to lead a game winning drive. After the MIN and CHI games I was worried that he was another SoCal QB that needs ideal conditions. That’s a pretty good defense too. Good to see.
I admit I didn't want him to come back, and especially after getting hurt again, but it was good to see him step up and overcome all the adversity, especially from Bowles and Bates.
