that is usually the case, but I think he could keep them in there for the 1/2, maybe even into the 3rd. I don't think this is like in the past where he would be satisfied with who is going to make the team and need to take a look at the fringe players. I think the focus here will be, on getting the starting teams to work together one more time. They do need the reps.

    yup...pretty sad huh??

I agree with Dino. I think Mangini needs to play the starters for at the very least a half.

I think a good benchmark for Mangini will be to compare the progress this team makes after the season compared to Nick Saban's first year. They both inherited bad teams with a lot of roster holes particularily at QB. They both inherited top 5 draft picks...they're both Belichick deciples, and they're both competing in the AFC East. If Mangini takes his early lumps but shows progress and ends strongly, as the 'phins did, then we can say he's on his way to being the real deal. Personally I have my doubts. Saban had a LOT more head coaching experience and also more experienced assistants. Mangini and his staff are as green as the grass down on the field.

I think it's way too early for that but I am disgusted on the players focus and performance. More so offensively...

Still waiting, champ. Why do you run away from direct questions?

After studying him for the past few weeks... and after listening to him these past few
days, I honestly can't see him failing.
The guy is mature beyond his years.
Part of me is stunned, that we actually have a solid-budding coach... after all the junk
    we've had in the past.

I know I may get some snaps at me, about kool-aid drinking, etc - - but I've seen enough
of good management in my day, and what it takes. Mangini gets what good management is,
and already we see players stepping up to levels, they haven't shown before.
He makes players better... he puts them in a position to succeed.
And he understands football... to me, a trait too many coaches lack.

Put those concepts together, and we have a coach, people.
Yes, it's early, and we haven't seen much field action... but my experience of people like
Mangini, tell me we have a winner here.

As for the play so far... it's been about basics, and player evaluation.
Even today, Mangini said today's practice was about *green & white...*
things we want to do. Not game-planning the Eagles.
What we've seen so far... very little game-planning.

Chill, until we get to see actual targeted gameplans to the opposition.

Nice post and welcome to GG. I agree with you completely on Mangini so far. I have my doubts about the OC but that's based on pedigree not performance.

Yeah, considering if we win Sunday, Mangini will have done 2X in 13 games than Kotite did in 32.

The Kotex years were the worst. Two years of it! What a nightmare.

What is this, bump week at TGG?

I keep opening these damn threads wondering if an elusive drug was given out to certain members.

What if Mangini were to lose his next 20 games...bump.

I was thinking this week of going back to read the Jets vs. Tampa Bay preseason game thread for kicks. I mean, Gradkowski was the next Montana after that game, that RB Ernest Graham was the next Walter Payton and we were the next 2006 Raiders. Also, I think that was the game where Chad got crushed on a cornerback blitz, and Cimini wrote the next morning that he had probable shoulder problems again.

Fast forward four months and we're fighting for the playoffs and Tampa's fighting for the #1 overall.

I still feel the best thing to happen to us was Rich Kotite. obviously it was very painful watching those teams but it helped bring us back to respectability. We were so bad that hess had to make a bold move and did so in bringing Parcells here which turned us around immediately and we have been one of the AFCs best team's ever since(minus a year or 2). We were in a cycle of mediocrity where we'd be bad one year then competitive the next but would always fall short of the playoffs. If carroll stayed and we were mediocre the cycle would have continued- Kottie being so bad helped to bring in BP and break that cycle.
