If the best we can do is to rehire Rex. We deserve all the shitty teams we’ve had. He is average. Which is good for us. But please let try to strive for better than average.
I can't believe he said that shit with a straight face... especially the stuff about "who's developing the QB"...i mean, wtf .
Id take him back as a highly compensated DC who stays away from draft room but never again as the HC.That would be an awful move
I don't want the pendulum to keep swinging back and forth. We don't need to go back to a talking head now.
if the Jets pursued Harbaugh instead of Rex, but Harbaugh then brought in Rex, why would the Jets side with Rex? If they held Rex in such high esteem they wouldn’t go through such a song and dance and would just hire Rex to begin with.
let me point out that john harbaugh was a special teams coach before he was hired as the head coach. so was mike tomlin! are we making a big mistake by excluding guys just because they have not been coordinators or head coaches? would mangini make a much better gm than mac? would westhoff be better head coach than bowles? would an assistant like joe lombardi of the saints be better than some guy under reid, who calls the plays, or mc carthy in green bay , who also calls the plays? just throwing it out there for consideration/discussion/opinions.
I can't think of an NFL scenario where a HC get fired and then re-hired by the same team. That's more of a baseball/Steinbrenner thing. I'd absolutely love Rex as a DC though. Truly believe if he was coaching this D, we'd have 6 wins right now. He has a great track record of giving rookie QB's and terrible QB's fits. My biggest disappointment with Bowles was getting schlacked by Mayfield in his first game action, by Barkley off the street, and for fucks sake how did we lose to Osweiler? That's not even mentioning Tannehill looking like an All-Pro in our building.
All this talk about NEEDING a HC with an OC background is ridiculous imo. It's not a pre-req to be an effective HC by any means. Imo, I think it's more important to get a HC who has HC experience already, whether it by in College or the Pros. John Harbaugh is at the top of my list if he leaves Balt.
I don’t care where my next HOF coach comes from — offense, defense, special teams, laundry team; just find him. And that starts with skilled personnel in the management side.
All I know off the top of my head is that Ernie Adams' official title is - ready for this? - "Football Research Director".
Greg Roman called Rex a buffoon before being fired........call me crazy but I don't think many people around the NFL want to work for/with Rex.
Not exactly a successful reunion so far though... $100m contracts buy a lot of cache and I have a feeling Gruden will still be rebuilding even after they become the Vegas Raiders.
