It looks like Amazon is ready to make Long island City a second (or third) headquarters for Amazon so he needs to demonstrate his desire to be a New Yorker again by buying this team. He certainly can afford it, it would be like me buying a slice of pizza. Some NFL owners want him to buy the Seahawks, the need here is greater. The Johnson's have seen their investment cannonball and should cash out now and let someone who has a sense of pride in the work they do take over. I hear Bezos likes nice things, like his 450 foot boat, so he can pull the lever on whatever escape clause there is in the Jets ownership or lease arrangement there is on Metlife; these deals are never put together without one. Then he can build his own place in Long Island City, right next to his new Amazon campus - maybe even on a platform over the railyards, just to throw a little irony at the Johnson boys. Liking nice things would be a driving force in creating the team we've all been seeking for way too long. Bezos must be the guy to do it!
Yeah! And the fans could get extra bonuses like free shipping on all Jets merchandise, and get to see their games on Amazon Prime!
Do you know the last offensive Head coach the Jets hired was Rich Kotite? We need a veteran head coach not another coordinator.Hardbaugh..Selling the team isnt gonna matter the way some fans think it will.We need the right coach.
I wouldn't even care if they renamed the Jets to New York Prime and the logo looked like the brand on a side of beef, with a smile under it - as long as they performed like the best in the market. How has the last fifty years of ownership done so far?
Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world and the richest man in history. Why would he take on ownership of a football franchise and deal with the unnecessary added stress? The guy has the world by the balls. He doesn't need the Jets franchise in his life
Not to mention, he lives right outside of Seattle. Many NFL owners are pitching the idea of him buying the Seahawks.
Smart, driven guys don't look at things the way you do - they look at things like this as challenges, not as sources of stress. Bezos has a history in New York, I think he met his wife here; he's reportedly in the process of making New York a center of his company's operations. Buying the Jets would show not just an investment in New York but a personal commitment. If he doesn't already own a home in New York, he could just park his new boat on the East River and stay there when he's in town. I mentioned the push to have him buy the Seahawks in the OP, but there is no indication the franchise is for sale any more than the Jets is.
I vote Yes.. He will pay Jim H whatever he wants plus a few incentives Look at most of the decent NFL owners: Kraft, Arthur Blanc all self made men..not wimps llike JAndJ
Not what this and a dozen other stories say today... https://www.seattletimes.com/business/amazon-plans-to-split-hq2-in-two-locations/
There are 20 cities in the running and 20 local papers reporting they are the front-runner. I read a quote earlier from Amazon that no decisions have been made and that The "following Bezozs plane" website was foolish as he is constantly traveling and it's not currently related to the HQ decision. Here's a link from NC. You can find dozzens of stories from each state. https://www.google.com/amp/amp.newsobserver.com/news/business/article221193120.html Looks like Amazon is playing cities against eachoeach to get the best deal, kind of like the way Cousins used Mac to get paid
Ummm, no. There were 20 cities in the running. Your link says they've heard nothing. That's politispeak for "we're out of it." So I wouldn't weigh the News Observer story saying nothing the same as I would stories that actually start to talk about specific advanced discussions that all seem to focus in on the Arlington Virginia and long Island City areas, stories from Seattle, Chicago and the New York Times for instance as well as business news specialists.
We’d like him at first. But when he became amdbassador to Germany and his brother Mark took over, we’d be railing on the bozos.
Being a rich owner (comparatively to other owners) in the NFL means nothing anymore with the salary cap. It's all about getting a competent owner.
That's a nice thought @Ralebird you've got going on in Candy Land, but the Johnsons are never selling this team. No-one would even be able to pry the Jets out of Woody's dying fingers. It will stay in his family whenever he kicks the pail, and only if whoever is left standing has no interest in continuing would it ever happen. I can't see it, because even if the Jets suck for the next 50 years and attendance is atrocious even in a new venue it's still a cash cow. Winning would increase revenue astronomically but even at rock bottom they're still pocketing a ridiculous amount of money (unfortunately). People only care when their pocketbooks get punished, and Woody Johnson's pocketbook is not getting punished to the degree and in the way that we'd all like. He's not selling.
Best part of AMAZON coming to L.I.C. is that my property value in Sunnyside should see a nice bump up! I'm 4 stops (and 10 min) from L.I.C. on the 7 train. All those Amazon workers gotta live somewhere right?
