Usually when I watch Bowles make a critical fourth down decision, my reaction is "Why the hell are you punting?" For once I had the opposite reaction. And I'm an analytics guy. Almost every time I criticize a coach it's for being too conservative. But even an analytics guy would say that going for it there was dumb.
I don’t know yet. I’m operating under the assumption that Mac is still here next year. I like Carmichael from the Saints. He had to learn something under payton all these years. Deflippo, maybe. I’d rather go the oc route than dip into the college ranks or take the recycled coach. Jim is being talked about like he is Jimmy Johnson. I just don’t see it
I'd prefer that Mac isn't here next year, but Carmichael and DeFilippo are decent choices. My concern with Carmichael is what happens when you take him away from Payton and Brees, and my concern with DeFilippo is that he hasn't done much as an OC. Considering I don't like Mac, I think Harbaugh and the GM he picks would be better than Mac and Carmichael/DeFilippo. But I don't think Harbaugh is going to come here anyway, so the point is probably moot.

Going for it on 4th down and 15 yards in that situation is coaching to lose the game. Herm ("you play to win the game") Edwards should have a talk with Bowles.
MY MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been ranting about this since it happened. All those times he should go for it, and the one time he SHOULD punt, he goes for it. 4th and 15, the team going backwards after a sack, and the defense playing great, 2 timeouts adn the 2 minute warning - no excuse for this. And I agree completely that he had the previous situations where he got roasted in his head. He's got ZERO feel for game situations. None.
He made those 49er teams “stacked.” And in only 4 years he won 2 division titles and a conference title. That is more than this organization has accomplished since 1969. (49 years). Yeah, I’d back up the truck. But maybe another cheap unproven coordinator is the way to go again. Well see how it works out
The Jets have two opponents against them every week. The actual team and Bowles coaching like an idiot.
For some reason, they never do for us. If we're gonna get another coordinator as our HC, he better be someone who has developed a QB. That means no DC's, which is what our last few HC's were.
Available head coaches are head coaches that got fired because the team they were coaching wasn’t winning. I’d rather take a chance that a coordinator turned coach won’t suck rather than hoping the former head coach doesn’t still suck. Just my opinion.
A guy like Todd Haley, sure. Otoh Jim Harbaugh didn't get fired because the 49ers weren't winning. He got fired because Jed York had daddy issues.
And to be clear, I am not balking at harbaugh the coach. I am balking at harbaugh the coach/gm president of football operations. If he wants to leave Michigan to be the coach ok. I’m not handing him the whole kingdom though.
Otoh, what? I don't get some of the shorthand sometimes because I'm older than dirt and today's youth are lazy bums! I'll give ya an abbreviation. How about Etoh. This team makes me drink! Signed, -Mrs. championjets69
