I liked your post about sending the message!

Question: Which H brother do really want?? I much much prefer Michigan guy than having to stomach another Coach interested in Defense..but at least JH has been a HC..that's all I like about him

I'm on record saying if the Jets lose to the Bills, this is the perfect week to fire Bowles with the BYE next week.

I expect this to absolutely happen if we lose this week. If it doesn't, Bowles & Co. are here until Black Monday.

The problem for the Jets is that there are going to be "high profile" teams looking for a coach, potentially the Cowboys, Ravens, Broncos, Packers...namely.
The Jets are going to lose out to a key player because of those openings, this is why its imperative to have an opening early so you can start interviewing before everyone else.

I have no issue firing Mac and Bowles at the end of the season. The Jets suck because the personal on O is awful and we have made a decision to trade the best qb on the roster to start a rookie this year. Bowles should be fired and or retained based on the evaluation of the next head of football operations.

While firing Bowles midseason may be red meat to the fans it says to prospective Coaches and GM's that the owner is never going to give them the control and the money to build a first rate football team. Good chance we do it.

Not so sure on this part. Bowles has proven time and time again he is in way over his head as a head coach and after Sunday's debacle vs Miami it is obvious. Not taking Long out after the first couple of botched snaps when he has been doing this for weeks. Going for it on 4th and 13 with 2:30 left and 2 timeouts, but he punts it down 2 scores with 4 minutes left in other games. No adjustments throughout the game. Lives in the stone age offensively. He sucks and the league knows it.

I look at firing mid-season quite contrary to this. The former (bolded) approach didn't work and with the mid-season firing it would be admitting it -- considering they just extended Mac and Bowles.

Also, I'm not frustrated with this season, this was never going to be a competitive one. If the Jets get their franchise coach to match with their franchise QB -- all will be forgiven (for now).

Too bad we don't have a "Franchise" owner and "Franchise" GM to hire her.

I don't see any value in firing these guys mid-season. They aren't performing well enough, and there will almost certainly be changes once the season is over. An interim coach is only going to make things harder for this team, and for Sam's development. Bowles and Bates haven't done him any favors, but switching things up on a 21-year-old rookie QB only 9 games into his career is not a recipe for future success.

All available options are bad--the least bad option for the long-term success of the team is to ride this thing out until Black Monday.

  9. Well it depends. If he has lost the team & caused a rift between the O & D in the locker room he needs to go asap..cause thats not good for a young team.

Jets could always fire Bowles & grit their teeth through Bates,Dennison or even Dorral who all are offensive guys qualified to be interim HC & can provude Sam some patchwork offensive perspective through December.I dont think thatll do any lasting damage.

Also anyone who has ever read the “packer way” knows the key to Ron Wolfe building that dominant infrastructure was coming on board before the end of season & doing true self scouting of the entire organization to understand what we needed to be done in offseason. While i doubt jets would hire anyone prior to black monday they could do a strong self evaluation to form a meaningful plan of attack rather than chaos on black monday

I am having trouble thinking of any cons and long as we only name an interim head coach for now.

Otherwise the con is losing out on head coaching candidates that are under contact elsewhere at the moment.

No doubt some serious self-scouting needs to happen, and that needs to start now if it hasn't already. I think putting more on Bates' plate takes away from Sam, and putting more on Dennison's plate takes away from the O-line, which has serious implications for Sam. Karl Dorrell might be alright.

Bowles and Mac have had three and a half years to show us something..feh

Bowles sucks and Mac enlisted such winners as Spencer Long and Trumain Johnson..They NEVER should have been re upped

Plenty of teams have interim coaches and prospective coaches know what they are getting into

dude, if we lose to Nate "Pick 6" Peterman, Bowles and Bates should be escorted into the tunnel, down the hall and to the parking lot. He doesnt even get back in the locker room to say goodbye to the players

If Bowles is to be blamed for his coaching ineptitude , Mac has to share the equal amount of blame for not addressing key positions, such as the OL, for example. This article by the site admin echos my thoughts word for word .....from before the season started, no less:

    http://www.theganggreen.com/2018/11/05/darnold-disaster-as-jets-grounded-again

It's just not possible to single out one individual, but the move Mac made to trade Teddy B. still gnaws at me - Darnold could have learned more by just sitting and watching - instead, many hear are pushing the panic button - wtf did we expect from a 21yo rookie and an inept OL?

Disagree. What it says is that Woody/Chris aren;t going to tolerate losing for the sake of "stability" anymore. Bowles (and Macc) have been AMPLE opportunity to prove they can produce a winning team but they haven't. Bowles for sure would've been gone after last year if he were working for a competent franchise. And any coaching candidate worth consideration could certainly see how incompetent Bowles is, still having the same issues he had in Year 1, so they're not going to be thinking "Gee the Jets sure don't have an patience".

As for firing Macc, I remain on the fence. If there were someone better available, or they miraculously hired a Pres. of Football Ops who wanted to replace him, I'd have no problem with that. But whether they could find someone better is the big question.

Very very unlikely and uncharacteristic for the owner(s) to fire Bowles mid-season....it's just not their style. He already stated that winning was not important.

What was is the showing of improvement as the season progressed......but I don't see how they can improve with the questionable assistant coaching - it's a catch 22. The players in the trenches have to overcome adversity....that's asking quite a lot.

Please explain how Bates is in any way whatsoever qualified to be even an interim coach. Also please explain how anyone thought he was qualified to be OC, or even the QB coach.

Good question. I would take either one of them over any other candidate. The advantage to John is he's less likely to be a dumpster fire, but the advantage to Jim is he's better for developing Darnold. If by some miracle we got to choose between the two, I would choose Jim unless my interview with him revealed him to care more about personal power than the health of the team. E.g. I don't mind him hiring the GM, but I don't want him to be the GM.

If Jim H makes that demand for HC/GM combined I am desperate enough to say yes

Maybe also install some old timer as as VP of Football to watch over things as well

"Personal power" sounds good to me especially since Bowles handed over power to the players

You are a young guy Home so I get your POV but as for me I hope something lucky comes to pass before I do
