If the Jets were to fire Bowles at 3-7 (they won't) or after another 5-11 season or worse there will be no one in the fanbase or media that will scream racism. There is no reason to bring up the Rooney rule.
Exactly. The Rooney rule is about extending opportunity. After that, things are about as merit-based as things can be. Fanbases tolerate losing for only so long no matter what color the coach is.
NFL teams ruined their seasons rather than give Kap a job, they aren't going to keep a terrible coach just because he's a minority.
As long as we find a coach who's as smart as someone like sean mcvay, I wouldn't care if they were a transgender handicapped female who's half black and half Indian American.
The team keeps getting worse. At the end of the day the coach's job is to make the team better. 3 years of stagnant, terrible football. Enough is enough already. How do you fire him though? Who coaches? At least the Browns had 2 competent coordinators. We have a survivalist and a best friend for coordinators. And how do you throw the ball almost twice as many times as you run against that run defense?!?!?
We need to find a coach that is offense minded and has a track record of developing qbs. Anyone else is unacceptable. Bowles and Ryan have done wonders with our defense, but that is not enough in today’s NFL.
I wanted to give Bowles the benefit of the doubt entering this season. But he has NOT done anything beneficial for Sam that warrants him staying here for his career.
I was never a fire Bowles guy until this season. Isn’t part of “rebuilding” strengthing your team and getting better “pieces”? The fact that Todd hasn’t progressed or gotten better at his skill set as a head coach by now should be a fairly good indication he wont ever become a good to great coach. The Jets have invested at least the next 5 years in a 21 year old QB that will hopefully be our QB for a decade. Do the Johnsons really want to have this current staff be in charge of his development (and health) for the next year or two? I sure wouldn’t! if I owned the team Todd would have been fired as soon as he walked into the locker room today. No one in their right mind keeps Long out there putting Sam at risk like that.
I wouldn’t go that far, but I don’t think this team overall has progressed enoug. This season isn’t over in terms of Darnold’s progression. The offense just made some dumb coaching moves. The whole Long shotgun snaps. Shell getting beat every play, but then we still were using empty sets. Waiting to get Enunwa involved until the 4th quarter. Not consistently throwing to Herndon.
No sense in firing Bowles now. Darnold needs continuity this season. Bowles is still doing a great job with the defense. Just wait until the end of the year.
Enough is Enough. 10-6 5-11 5-11 3-6 Undisciplined team, pre snap penalties, no improvement, poor decisions. There is really no justification to keep him. We keep hearing about continuity. Are you kidding me. Continuously unprepared and undisciplined. No improvement. The record speaks for itself. Time to fire him.
I agree the Defense play well so we can't fire Toilet Bowles. Next week is the battle for a top 5 pick should be interesting.
This has nothing to do with race. He sucks no matter what his ancestry.com DNA report shows. The problem is that all aspects of this team are regressing under his watch. The longer we wait, the more damage we will have to repair. I would fire him this week before the Bills game.
Not one of the jets receivers is a fit for this scheme & while Darnold fits the WCO,he is also scheme diverse.Theres literally no reason to force this scheme on anyone other than stubborness & ignorance
While I agree with you that the defense has been pretty good Todd is responsible for A LOT more then the D. The most important thing he is in charge of in my opinion is THE FUTURE of the entire franchise in Sam Darnold. Todd has yet to show he is or will be able to put Sam in a position to learn, grow and succeed in the NFL. Simple things like clock management and holding players and coaches accountable seems to be hard for him but he’ll be able to develop a QB? I don’t think he can. The fact that Long was outhere was the nail in the coffin for Todd in my book.
I think Bowles' biggest mistakes that will lead to his firing is in his coordinator choices. Kacy Rodgers has proven not to be great at defensive playcalling, and Morton actually ran a competent offense, for all of its shortcomings. The one thing that had me rooting for Bowles to have everything click was his defensive playcalling abilities, but the managerial aspects of the game haven't grown on him, much like Rex.
I don’t disagree with anything, but I don’t see any value in Jim Bates being the HC for 7 games. How will that help Darnold? Bates has been terrible.
