I don't think posters are getting attacked just for criticizing Darnold, it's the way they're criticizing him. Hyperbolic posts like "Darnold is a bust, Darnold is worse than Geno, we need to draft another QB" are the ones I see getting attacked.
Geno as a rookie was probably better, it’s close...just never got better and may have actually gotten worse
I understand. If you see a pattern then the poster is a troll and just report so we can look into his posts. But give the folks who criticize Darnold on football grounds a break.
Until today I would have disagreed, but this game puts Darnold into Geno territory. But Geno's problem wasn't his rookie year, it's that he didn't improve afterward. If Darnold looks like this in a year from now, then it's time to press the panic button.
Genos team was much worse, talk about not having any NFL talent around him. Darnold has players behind him, Geno was playing with nothing...
Who does Darnold have besides Enunwa and the occasional Robby Anderson appearance? Personally, I don't understand why the ball doesn't go to Herndon more. I even remember Sanchez at least throwing the ball to Dustin Keller regularly as his safety valve.
Enuwa, Kearse and Anderson were better than what he had. Geno won a game in Atlanta with kerley, Cumberland and Stephen Hill.
Darnold has Anderson, Kearse, Enunwa, and Crowell (plus Powell before he got hurt). Geno had Homes, Kerley, Cumberland, and Powell. Darnold's skill position players are better, but Geno had the better OL because Brick and Nick were still there. At OC, Darnold has Bates, Geno had Mornhinweg. So the two teams are at the very least comparable.
Give Darnold a competent HC and OC, a serviceable Offensive Line, a few playmakers on offense and he will shine. The guy is good. Problem is Mac and Bowles. Give the 21 year old rookie a break.
Hopefully. Can't guarantee it but I'm much more inclined to give a rookie the benefit of the doubt than a regime that's in its fourth season.
Sure thing. I just believe it's way too premature to label Darnold as Sanchez 2.0 when Mark had a better OL, running game, and defense during his rookie year than Sam does now.
I hate the thread title. But please google Voltaire and let it go. Folks have a right to trash Darnold until he produces results.
There's a lot of positives and a fair amount of negatives. Seeing him do stuff like grabbing that piss poor snapped ball and toss it away to prevent a huge loss or turnover. Some solid throws. My biggest knock that I saw on him today was footwork. Wasn't stepping into his throws and driving thru for power.
Absolutely not ready to throw in the towel I’m the most negative Jets human ever, but if Sam had a guy like Sean Peyton or Mcveigh, he would be better Maybe not Montana, but better. Much better. We have to give it time.
Exactly This is what always scares me about starting a rook. If he gets crushed year 1, we could create many negative habits - including footwork because he’s hesitant to get crushed.
I can’t stand watching Darnold stand flat footed, pump the ball a few times, and then throw a bunch of lollipops off his back foot or standing still at best He needs to improve greatly in manipulating the pocket and then delivering strong throws after getting in a good and clean position Hate to say it but Brady is the model of what to do in the pocket
