Stewart is not still hanging around. He was released/waived/cut/sent packing. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ardarius-stewart-jets-ped-20180919-story.html https://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2018/09/ardarius_stewart_returns_from.html.
Ah, I thought he was on the practice squad. EDIT he seems to have been released from the practice squad on the 5th of October.
I mean Mac is just an idiot. You take blue-chip players when they are on the board. You also take safe picks in offensive linemen. You also take playmakers. 15 of Macs picks have been on defense. Not one of them has been a 3-4 rushing OLB. He’s taken fliers on the likes of Mauldin and Donahue. The pass rushing OLB is probably the most vital position in the 3-4. Completely neglected by Mac. In 28 picks, Mac has taken TWO offensive linemen... both of which were in the 5th round. In 28 picks, Mac has taken 4 WRs. Peake is the only one left. Practically all of them were projects. Smith included. In 28 picks, Mac has taken 2 TEs. None have been selected before Day 3. In 28 picks, Mac has taken 2 RBs. Both selected in the 6th round. Mac has completely neglected the offense. What in the fuck has he been doing?
yes we want mac to draft offense but to be fair one of those offensive lineman is our starting RT the WRs were just horrible and peake is more of a special teamer but he did find anderson as an UDFA who is our starter now and one of the best deep threats in the NFL herndon looks like a steal in the 4th round so far maguire looked good before the injury, cannon it's too early to judge he also used 3 picks 2 get sam, 1 of those picks he traded a DE away for and got a WR in return who is a solid slot guy and put up 800+ yards last year for us he also signed crowell and long as free agents our starting RB and C he also took a flyer on pryor that didn't pan out he is doing things to improve the offense but the big thing was the QB and he got it. he also signed teddy which gave us an extra pick in this years draft and a fallback option if sam wasn't ready to start. i'm hoping for a very offensive draft as well but it's not like he hasn't done anything for offense. the biggest misstep was missing on all those WRs he drafted (hansen, smith, and stewart) if 1 or 2 of them panned out we'd be looking alright we stil have 7 draft picks and 100 mil to spend as well in the offseason. we'll be able to add some talent for sure
Overall, I like what Macc has done but holy shit, what a massive whiff these last few weeks. -Let Pryor walk for nothing (unless there's something going on) -Replace your QBs security blanket out of the backfield with a PS guy -Pass on DT for a 4th -Pass on Tate for a 3rd A complete piss poor job by him. You're supposed to help your rookie QB, not make his job harder.
You just don't get it. Trading away draft capital that is needed to try to fix the OL would not be helping Sam or the team. Trading draft capital for a 30 or 31-year old WR whose best days are behind him and who would probably only be with the team for a season or two, would not be helping Sam or the team long term. This is not a playoff team. They have lots of holes. There is no reason to panic. They have depth and those guys are getting paid and here for a reason. They should be given the opportunity to step up.
That is all well and good, but his signings of players and occasional drafting is not enough. 1) that is great that Robby has panned out, along with Enunwa. But Robby isn't putting up stats if its not on a deep ball. If he doesn't have a deep ball, he is a 3 catch 31 yard receiver. Assuming we have a healthy squad we have Robby: UDFA, Enunwa: 6th rounder, Kearse: Undrafted, Pryor: Converted QB. 2) that is great that the 6th round RBs have shown promise or are too early in their careers to judge. But they would be the 3rd RB on nearly every team in the NFL. Powell: 4th rounder, Crowell: UDFA, McGuire: 6th rounder, Cannon: 6th Rounder. As you can see, Mac has practically fielded scraps on offense. While they may produce, an offense is going to have a really hard time succeeding with this make up. The only QB that could probably field a competitive offense with this make up is Tom Brady. I don't think Mac can tell his ass from his face. While Mac is doing THINGS to improve the offense, it is practically the bare minimum. That is why you aggressively build up the offense. This is not 1980. Just because somebody is starting for us does not mean Mac should get credit. SOMEBODY has to start and those people starting would not be doing so on MANY teams in the NFL. We are so devoid of talent that they have to start. Would you like to know how many 1st and 2nd round picks this team has on offense? ONE and that is Sam Darnold. Would you like to know how many 1st and 2nd round picks this team has on defense? FIVE. That is a huge fucking problem in todays game.
Who do we call up then? In all honesty we called up Cannon to back up Crowell and then we promoted Henderson, christ we need somebody to show something as bar the Denver game the ground and pound has been nothing short of a shit show for weeks.
Kotite's eye for talent actually wasn't bad at all. He was just a horrible coach. In addition to Chrebet, he got us Hugh Douglas, Keyshawn Johnson, Ray Mickens, Matt O'Dwyer, and signed Jumbo Elliot. Honestly, his only big screw up (and it was a big one) as a GM was taking Brady over Sapp. But Parcells got 9 wins out of a starting lineup built almost entirely by Kotite, then 12 wins with only a few tweaks to the team still largely made up of Kotite picks. With 20/20 hindsight, he was a WAY better GM than Terry Bradway. Kotite at least got us a few Pro Bowlers; Bradway traded away a 1st round pick for a no name TE, then used his 2nd round pick on a kicker. It was like he was drunk on draft day.
