Do you wanna compile a list of Macc Round 2+ picks vs Idzik Round 2+ picks (given Macc is usually picking higher in the round)? Can you tell one dumpster fire from another?
the browns have a boatload of cap space also, but a bunch of extra draft picks as well. and, a proven guy running the operation in john dorsey. the johnsons haven't realized anything yet...........
Gotcha! My rankings could change as well as I learn more about them. When I first heard the name LaFleur a week or so ago in another thread, I wasn't interested, but have done a little research into his background and experience, and I like him now even though he hasn't been a HC. I understand what you're saying about Riley and collegiate HCs, and I could be wrong, but I don't think the differences are that big. Xs and Os are pretty much Xs and Os and game planning and organization are the same. I'm sure there are some differences in how they do things, but imo the biggest difference is dealing with grown men vs teenagers. NFL HCs don't have to deal with recruiting and they have GMs to deal with contracts, the draft, and FA. As for the Air Raid Offense, I believe that Riley is smart enough and flexible enough to adapt to the NFL. After all he's smart enough that 28 of 32 NFL teams sought to learn about his offense and some of his ideas. My chief concern with him is that he's only in his 2nd year as a HC and he may not be the disciplinarian the Jets need. In the end, however, any differences we have in ranking are minimal imo, as I think we both overwhelmingly want Harbaugh. Hopefully, he will be interested and available and Woody/Chris will do the right thing, fire Bowles and hire Harbaugh. That said, I'm not gonna hold my breath.
He does, although I still have the copy of Sports Illustrated that has Geno going with the first pick of the draft! Third round is Brian Winters vs Lorenzo Maudlin/Jordan Jenkins/ArDarius Stewart/Nathan Shepherd
What about Herndon and Cannon? Two rookies who are at least showing up and looking decent out there. I think this year's draft is already showing a lot of promise.
I really believe Harbaugh is a pipe dream that is going to lead to a lot of disappointment amongst Jets fans. He is on the cusp at UM and there is no reason to believe he has any interest in leaving, especially before he finishes the job. Riley is a possibility as he left open the possibility and i think we’d be nuts to not make him an offer he can’t refuse. He’s as innovative an offensive mind as there is and has HC experience, albeit at college level but experience nonetheless. He certainly checks all boxes for me and is worth the risk as far as I’m concerned. I would think reuniting with Baker would be his first choice but I’d make a serious run for sure.
So you're conveniently throwing out the 1st rd disasters? (that Idzik totally whiffed 2/3) or the fact that he also had a shitton of picks in possibly the best draft since 2006... and almost blew all of them aside from Enuwa (that was a very good pick)
As long as Nick Saban is at Alabama no other school is truly on the cusp in college football in regards to actually competing with the Tide. Add the difficulty of recruiting to Michigan because of their high academic standards makes it even more unlikely. If Harbaugh can finally beat Ohio St, win the conference and make the CFP, that’s a mission accomplished for Harbaugh at Michigan. And if by some chance they win a playoff game and make it to the championship, that’s as good as it will get for him but being able to consistently repeat it highly unlikely. Long term coaching at Michigan will not lead to even Urban Meyer/OSU level success for him and only disappointment compared to expectations. I don’t think it unreasonable that even he is aware of that and would look to get back to the NFLBif he can consider this season a success for Michigan.
I’m discounting 1st round picks because any homeless guy off the street would have come away with Leonard Williams or Jamal Adams. I’m not going to adorn the GM who picks Joey Bosa next year as a draft genius either. 2nd round and later is where the evaluation comes in - that’s the only point I’m trying to make.
Post of the year! For any knowledgeable fan to try to claim that Idzik was as good a GM or better than Mac is patently absurd and asinine. It deserves a 2 week ban.
You're right that I detest Idzik. That moron had 14 draft picks in one of the best draft years in recent memory. He had the opportunity to totally remake the Jets and set them up for 10 years of consistently high level play, and he totally screwed the pooch. That takes a certainly level of ineptitude. NOTHING Mac has done even remotely approaches Idzik's utter and complete incompetence. Idzik even had secretaries and people in the FO turning against him. Mac certainly needs to be replaced, but he has done a number of good things for this team and has been saddled with a stupid organizational plan/org chart.
I think Jenkins and Shepherd are alright obviously Stewart is still hanging around and has shown a little bit of talent and of course stupidity in the peds. Yes, Geno looked the bargain in the second round after an earlier mock had him as the number 1, jets jets jets lol
