Following is a list of 2019 Jets potential Free Agents by category. Key: Bold - players I think that the Jets should definitely re-sign; Italics - players I think the Jets may possibly want to re-sign UFAs Josh McCown, QB Morris Claiborne, CB Buster Skrine, CB James Carpenter, OG Jermaine Kearse, WR Bilal Powell, RB Steve McLendon, NT Quincy Enunwa, WR Ben Ijalana, OT Brent Qvale, RT Rontez Miles, S Neal Sterling, TE Josh Martin, OLB Brandon Copeland, OLB Jeremiah Attaochu, OLB Andre Roberts, WR Dakota Dozier, OG Jonotthan Harrison, C/OG Henry Anderson, DE Neville Hewitt, ILB Jason Myers, K Daryl Roberts, CB RFAs Ibraheim Campbell, S Eric Tomlinson, TE Robby Anderson, WR ERFAs Doug Middleton, S De'Angelo Henderson, RB Deontay Burnett, WR Frankie Luvu, OLB
I think Roberts has shown vastly improved form in the last two games at CB and think he deserves a new deal (cheap) on the other scale I don't think Sterling has shown enough so far, well apart from concussion issues, he has been a disappointment as I was hoping he would break out this season.
Gotta bring Roberts back. Skrine is about done and maybe Claiborne comes back once again (he may want a long term type deal). Sterling came as a developmental type guy and he's come along but the injuries may have derailed him. Henry Anderson Luvu Burnett Middleton Myers Robby Anderson Copeland/Attaochu (either or) Q (he's gonna come cheap) Everyone else could go and likely wouldn't see much a difference.
the only good thing about being a crap team is you don't really need to worry about losing anyone great in FA (as we don't have any great players)
NC: I agree with most--My only 2 changes would be 1) I would not resign LB Martin ( a special teamer who Bowles is just dumb enough to start in 2019 and again insure we have no pass rush), and 2) would consider resigning RB Henderson to minimum contract. Not sure Henderson will ever pan out, but Powell is likely done, Crowell is an injured head case, and Cannon IMO isn't much. If the jets resign Dakota Dozier to sit on the bench for a SIXTH straight season, I AM going to look for a new team. I thought resigning Dozier in 2018 for a FIFTH season on the bench when he showed squat for the first four seasons was a typical MacCagnan approach to building an OL.
The only one on this list I make sure I retain is Quincy. I think I would tender Robbie at a second round level (almost baiting another team to sign him) I’d bring back Kearse as long as he’s fairly cheap I’d bring back both Claiborne and Anderson as long as it’s a team friendly deal. I don’t bring back Neil Sterling or Josh Martin both guys have had several concussions this season and are too much of a risk. The rest ...... whatever
I would definitely bring back Copeland over Attaochu. Is Q going to ever give them another 16 games? Bring back, Luvu, Burnett and Anderson.
Does Burnett have the skillset to be a WR3/4 for this team/league? I would retain him for the USC-connection.
I can agree with you regarding Martin. I just thought that if for no other reason, they'd probably want to re-sign him for STs, and he hasn't been awful on D. Unless his injury is worse than reported, I don't think Powell is done. He may decide not to risk it any more at his age, but I think he can still play at a high level as part of a rotation.
Martin's prolly the best of the lot but that's not saying much. That injury looks bad and I wonder if he'll even want to come back. Seems like a real thoughtful dude. He's another hit away anyway.. They need outside help for the OLB corp badly... S.O.S.
I have been harsh on Darryl Roberts last year and the first few of this year but he's been playing out of his mind since Trumaines gone down. I'd defibitely bring him back.
I mistook him for Shepard and I guess you were kidding around when you posted this too. But I watched the game again and he looked pretty damn good Sunday and was a good prospect coming out. I'm interested to see more. Out of a sorry assed lot he may be the best of them...and you never know, he could develop. How 'bout a sack in Miami for starters? #grasping at straws
My point was, who is this guy? I have never heard his name mentioned ONE time over the summer or training camp or preseason or talks about the roster cuts or the final 53 man roster. Then I’m watching the game and I say to myself “self, who is this number 93?” And I see it’s someone I’ve never even heard of and I was questioning whether I had a ministroke and just missed him.
Okay, me either. I thought it was Shepard. Maybe I had ministroke? But then I see this guy flying around when I watched the game again and he's getting good pressure, just missed a couple of sacks and had a couple of tackles. I was like "who is this guy?" Turns out he was a good prospect and fell thru the cracks after Pagano got axed because of "fit" in the new D. They picked him up after Martin went to IR but I never saw it anywhere. https://jetswire.usatoday.com/2018/10/06/jets-claim-lb-tarell-basham-colts/
What do you think he will cost though? Not sure what his value is going to be because hes played really well this year. That said, he would be cheaper than any free agent corner playing at his level so we should definitely resign him.
I’d bring Kearse back if he’s the number 3-4 option. Obviously we have no WR depth so he’s that if nothing more next season.
I'd like to bring both back, but if forced to choose between them, I'm not sure I'd agree with Copeland over Attochu. Copeland's had 3 sacks this season with the Jets to Attaochu's, but Copeland only has 3.5 sacks in his career to Attaochu's 11. Attaochu is 2 years younger than Copeland. They've both played in 8 games for the Jets, but Copeland was with the team all through OTAs, TC and preseason. Attaochu was brought in late (Sept. 4). Copeland has also started 7 games, and his stats aren't that much better than Attaochu's.
