Regarding playoffs and the idea that there's NO WAY the Jets can get to the SB as presently constructed -- who's to good for us? Sure, it's easy to appreciate the strengths of the contenders listed below, and the Jets might not even qualify.

    But if they get in...

Indy?--We played 'em tough before our D caught on to the scheme
NE? -- We beat'em once already
DEN? -- This team's is not even going to the playoffs
BAL? -- Intimidating, but offense is still a joke and Mangini is smarter than Herm (and Herm nearly beat-em)
    KC? -- See above
SD? -- Rivers still a rookie, Shott is still the coach
CIN? -- The biggest threat; Penny would need to play like he did yesterday

There are no guarantees in the future...Mangia could keel over in the offseason from a heart attack (God forbid). Or you could. (God forbid).
THE TIME IS NOW, RIGHT NOW.

If we get into the tournament, we gotta believe we can win it and hope the team continues its upward projectory of playing better each week. If we use Green Bay as the new baseline, imagine how tough the team will be by the time the playoffs start.

Your underestimating a lot of those teams. San Diego is an extremely tough team with a top defense and LT, who is amazing. Rivers isn't a rookie, he sat on the bench learning the game for the last two years.

Baltimore's defense is unbelievable and our offense would have trouble in that gaem. They also have an ok offense with McNair at QB. New England doesn't really get beat in the playoffs.

Also no reason they can't beat us.

SD - LT would rush for a deuce against us. Our run D is not strong. We'd lose.

Baltimore - We're not ready for that D right now.. Sorry

    NE - Beatable

    Indy - Beatable

Denver - Very tough D, but with rookie QB, definitely beatable

KC - beatable. KC plays way too many close games.. (Herm win by no more than 4 theory)

Exactly. While the Jets can any of those teams at any given time during the regular season, they can also beat us at any given time, and it would be very difficult to beat 3-4 of them in the playoffs, likely on the road.

Very true, once the jets get in they can most definitely make a SB run. Go JETS!

Wow. Hey, I'm excited about making a run at the wild card, but... we aren't there yet. We're still very vulnerable to the run, and against good teams we have to blitz constantly to get pressure. The right side of the O line needs a couple of good run blockers. I love our WR's but we still lack a true deep threat. Getting some playoff experience is what I'm hoping for.

I honestly dont think that there is anyway we could beat SD and LT but we did well against him in 04 in the playoff win.

True. I just think that they are the class of the AFC. They are playing at such a high level right now.

SD, Indy, and Jax are the teams that would scare me the most, and I think it's pretty obvious what the reasons are for each of those.

I don't think anybody can stop LT nowadays. If that team is going to lose, it will be because of Rivers. The defense is too good, and LT is just so far ahead of everybody else in the NFL that it is rather scary. The problem is if you design your entire defense around stopping LT:

    A) Rivers should be able to take advantage of that, remember they still have Gates.

    B) It kind of doesn't really work well anyway. LT himself could just throw to Gates too. How do you completely stop LT anyway? He's a WR, QB and RB all rolled into one.

I think outside of the Chargers and Ravens, we actually have a very good chance to beat anyone else in the playoffs. I think the Chargers are just going to win it all though, unless as I said Rivers manages to fuck up, or maybe if Marty fucks up. If Marty can't get to at least the AFC Championship game this year, he probably should be fired.

Baltimore stopped Tomlinson earlier this year in B-More's 13-9 win...98 yards on 27 carries, that is great.

Their isn't a team the Jets can't beat, but Badger said it best, all of these teams can say the same exact thing.

I wouldn't exactly call KC and Baltimore's offenses a joke, and Schott a bad coach.

lol you know you're good when the best defense in the NFL is happy to hold you to 98 yards rushing and about 3.6 ypc. LT has stepped up his game though in recent weeks, right now, at the level he is playing, I'm not sure if anyone can truly hold him in check. I pretty much expect 100 yards and at least 1 TD out of him every week now.

I think the only person who can stop LT & the Chargers in the playoffs is Shottenheimer. A Shottenheimer coached team will never win the SB..

Baltimore didn't stop him, Martyall did. SD didn't throw the ball for nearly the entire second half, running the ball on all three downs and trying to run the clock. Baltimore only had to play the run. in fact, it was that loss, squarely on the conservative shoulders on Marty Schottenheimer, that essentially changed their offensive philosophy. after that game, SD realized they had to throw the ball and the offense has exploded since then, and so has Phillip Rivers. Baltimore gets 0 credit for the flaws of Martyball as far as I am concerned.
