Is Sam currently better than McCown and should we sit him until the bye?

Isn’t somebody whining about this in the Sanchez thread?

    That makes TWO ass threads.

How is it possible that McCown has been on this team for a year and a half now. There have been a ton of posts about McCown yet you still don’t know his name is McCown?

Sam probably should have sat to start the year but that's past history. He was given the not not we need to ride it out. Can't bench him now. He's playing very well for a rookie and benching him now could easily mess with his confidence. Also sends the wrong message.

Should the Jets sit Darnold? Yes. You betcha.

Is McCown going to be better than Darnold? Fuck that.

So why should Darnold sit? That's because his C can't snap the fucking ball right - and his OL is just hot garbage when it comes to protection.

Don't forget that this offense has no playmaker worth a shit. Maybe Crowell could serve well, if he had an OL worth a shit.

    =========================================

Now that the most important piece is on roster, Jets should draft accordingly. Expect a lot of offensive picks in coming drafts, with the one possible exception of the blue-chipper pass rusher in the 1st round.

We’re probably 5-2 with McCown right now, but whatever. I know Darnold is the future, but that doesn’t mean he needs to start year 1. He doesn’t look ready and it could set him back...

No. Have you watched Josh McCown in any year other than 2017?

There's been several games this year where that particular option would have been fine with a lot of fans me included..

That said, 2018 was never about winning. It was about Sam's development. He's gonna have to learn how to win, and honestly learn how to lose and come back from it. Benching him is pointless. Playing McCown with a healthy Sam on the bench is counterproductive to the big plan.

In short, Play Sam until the last minute of the last game of the season. Then Macc had damn well better get this kid some real talent to play with and we're not talking 5th round dp's or Dollar General FA's either.

What we can't afford to do is allow Macc to ignore the OLine (and WR) once more in the offseason. That should be evident to any and everyone by now in JetLand including the FO..

I have absolutely zero interest in watching 39 years old merc Josh McCown play again for my team.

Get Darnold into as many cold games as possible. The guy needs to learn to play in the crappy November & December games in NJ.

It's fun to hypothesize. My guess is we'd be 4 and 3, as opposed to 3-4, if Mccown had been starting all season, but obviously record alone isn't what this season is about. The experience Sam's gaining by starting will prove invaluable. He's learning a great deal more by playing than he would be on the bench. Growing pains aplenty, but still one of the few, but admittedly correct, calls Bowles has made that I agree with.

Yes, have you? He tore it up for the Bears when Cutler got hurt.

There are arguments for starting McCown, but they have nothing to do with who’s better.

Does it help or hurt Sam’s development to keep starting him with a banged-up offense that wasn’t exactly the Chiefs to begin with.

That’s the question. McCown is irrelevant.

McCown was a top 15 QB last year with an absolutely dreadful supporting cast.

Yes he is a better QB than Darnold in the present. I felt we should have started the year with McCown while Darnold learned, and I do think playoffs would have been possible in that scenario.

However it's too late to swap now. Once you begin the season with Darnold, it was decided the future begins now. I wouldn't turn back on that. Gotta take the rookie lumps and hope for a better 2019.
