The more I watch Darnold the more convinced I am that he's going to be a great QB in this league. I just roll my eyes and marvel at the whiny bitchyness of some of this fan base.
Blasphemy! How dare you discredit the sacred STATS? It is the all-knowing entity in the football world. Didn't you know?
Believe it or not, you have no right to squelch the stupid. Just like no other 'smarties' have the right to squelch me.
These arguments that Darnold is an accurate passer and is just tremendously hindered by his surroundings are ridiculous. Even in games where he has had time to throw he has been inaccurate. even in games where we torched on offense he has been inaccurate and turned it over. Even at USC he was inaccurate and turned it over. You can clean up turnovers, and improve when you are so young, but typically inaccurate QBs, even the ones who succeeed overall, struggle with accuracy their entire careers. What is most concernng is he is having accuracy issues in good/decent weather. he hasnt had to deal with Rain, Snow, playing buffallo, new england, kansas city, nov/december football yet and he is still wildly inaccurate. His arm strength has hurt him already on some turnovers, that wont improve as conditions worsen. He really is comporable to sanchez... his armstrength on the field doesnt match the combine/scouts claims. reckless throws, prone to picks with passes that travel over 20 yards... other then having fantastic footwork, he is a clone of sanchez.
is it the interceptions, the balls thrown way off target, or the throwing into heavy coverage that convicned you he is a star in the making?
Stats are facts.... like if he had a ton of touchdowns im sure you would discredit that too right? stats are no some niche convention used by some alternative crowd... its like 2nd grade math... it counts how many times Sam throws it to the other team. more often then we would like so far.
None of the above. It's having eyes in my head and enough sense to know that rookies will have ups and downs. It's him leading us to a tying TD after going down 7-0 before the game barely starts. Scrambling for a big 3rd down conversion leading to a FG down 20-7 ... which might have been another TD if not for two of the worst drops in history. Getting us back in the game with a beautiful TD drive to make it a 10 point game with 10 minutes left. There's stuff like that ... Both mostly because I know enough about football not to bitch and cry when a 21 year old rookie throws 2 bad INTs in his 7th career start, as if that's never happened before.
This forum is private, the first amendment doesn't apply here. So the people who run the forum have the right to squelch the stupid. Not giving an opinion on whether they should ban the guy, but they are allowed to.
Stats are a log of what happened - that I agree with you. Does the stat line give you the full picture? That is the question. They never have, and never do. And probably never will unless you invent something new. Right - but now, who decides who is stupid and who isn't? Every outcry does have [some] merit to say the very least.
