Hasn’t everyone learned s lesson judging rookies after 6 games? Geez give the kid a chance to learn the NFL game.
He starts but he's been used in early downs mostly. And again the staff seems to feel like he's contributing. He's gotten steady PT and hasn't lost time to Pennel, and Foto (don't think he's been active all season so far )...give him time.
I'm willing to give Shephard time. That being said I'd like to go back and look at who else was out there to draft. Make a bet an offensive player who could help was there. Yet another example of our scouts and gm falling in love with someone that looks the part and not a football player. Too many of these picks over the years. Some examples: Gholson, Stephen Hill, Hackenberg, Devin Smith, etc. I get it the draft is 50 50 but sometimes it is frustrating.
There's that mention of Devin Smith, the player that was never injured in college, just how the fuck could anybody have known he would get injured at the drop of a hat when turning pro, people need to remove him from the smack Mac list. As for Shepherd he was slated to be taken higher than we got him for and it was a supposed good deal to get him in the third. Also hindsight is a brilliant tool to use in the draft process, shame H.G. Wells time machine doesn't exist.
Devin smith was not a good prospect all of his routes were the same in college, his college yards per reception was literally in the 99th percentile, his route running was so poor and raw that he wasn't worth more then a late round pick. If you want to take a chance on a one dimensional player like smith then wait till the UDFA like Mac did with Anderson, thats a much safer gamble. I think Mac learned from his devin smith mistake but I also think it's very fair to call it a mistake , injuries or not the guy flat out sucked at NFL football
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/devin-smith?id=2552459 Round 2 projection by the experts or whatever they are on that site. Not that I want an argument about a player that has retired tbh.
i honestly haven't noticed him but that doens't mean he isn't doing his job. run stuffers rarely get noticed nor do people who eat up blocks. so i did some digging around on him so far and found a few positive things from thursday night game he earned an elite 90.7 grade from PFF in 22 snaps he's ranked above average with a 64.4 grade from PFF on the season in preseason PFF ranked him as the highest rookie d-lineman and 3rd highest overall sounds like he's just going out there and playing spot duty and doing his job. not a bad thing for a d-lineman
Thanks for digging that up, SGB. We spent several first round draft picks on highly touted high end DL's who were supposed to be the second coming of the Fearsome Foursome, and today have virtually nothing to show for it. So what the hell is wrong with taking a chance on a project in a rebuild year, about whom the worst thing that can be said is that he isn't hurting us while he learns? Maybe we should go out looking for some more fat asses with bad attitudes?
