To bad we didn't scope up Pat Shurmur before the Giants did. They're a team that knows how to execute. We happened to play really well today. We perfectly executed on special teams. I know people think that's automatic, if you watch NFL games it's not. Chicago just lost to Miami because they couldn't execute a game winning field goal. We grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never relinquished the lead. We won pulling away. We played the clock and took victory formation with the other team having no timeouts and needing to execute a TD and a 2 point conversion to tie. In today's NFL that's unusual for how good it is. It's amazing to me that Jets fans complain about sloppy play and penalties as if the Jets are the only team that has them. Were not. It was a great win period.
You take the positives with any win. Jets D gave up points after we scored but 5 TOs! Jets scored almost in every possessions on 2nd half. Darnold made couple of mistakes but was brilliant in most of the plays. Bowles and Bateman got Darnold in the right direction. We re hurting in secondaries and hope we can get them back soon.
Wasn’t able to watch the game. Darnold’s stats are solid, but how did he look? How were his throws? Also - 7 FIELD GOALS?
Jets had the lead the entire game and just needed to hold serve, which they did. Conservative approach makes sense with a rookie QB in that situation.
8 for 10 throwing on 3rd down for 6 first downs. 1 of the incompletions was an int on a bad throw after a bad snap deep to Robbie, probably only bad throw of day. The 2 completions not first downs were on 3rd and 22 and a throw on 3rd and 12 that went for 11. Most throws were right on the money, many slants hit in stride. He was calm and decisive. He looked like a legit FQB. They went ultra conservative in FG range in the fourth, the way he was throwing probably could have scored more if they were in attack mode. Miles above any game this year. Also got the ball with 45 seconds before and led a nice 2 minute drill to get a FG.
When you say ultra conservative at what point did it make sense to put this win at risk? What happens if there's a turnover either an INT or a fumble recovered and taken to the house. What does that do to the Darnold and the rest of the team. Instead we maintained a double digit lead, forced them to use all of their time outs and need an onside kick, a TD with no timeouts and a 2 point conversion. It's not ultra conservative to play winning football and actually win. There's a line between being stupidly aggressive and ultra conservative. You saw it today.
I agree I’m just saying They would have lost had they played this sloppy against a quality team. Of course I’ll not convince you of this, but that’s ok. I’m comfortable with being the the heel.
Taking a shot on 2nd down with 4 minutes to go with a 2 score advantage is not "stupidly aggressive". Even with the FG they were lucky that Luck didn't beat them.
He's got plenty of INTs, but they're of the Fitz variety (going for Aaron Rodgers throws without an Aaron Rodgers arm) rather than the Geno variety (completely oblivious to the defense).
This is a really lazy, and wrong, comparison. His INTs are by far because of a lack of seeing what is in front of him (the geno version) not because he lacks the tools to make the play (the alluded to Rodgers version) Most of Sams mistakes where him not seeing the defense correctly, or locking on to one receiver too early. Nothing he has done shows an inibility to make the throw, it’s all about him reading the coverage.
There are about 2 quality teams in the NFL early in the season. With the exception of the Rams right now we don't even know who the quality teams are. KC was everyone's early season darling last year and they crapped the bed at home against a mediocre TN team in the playoffs. The KC team with a veteran QB and one of the best HC in the NFL. Every single NFL game is full of penalties, sloppy mistakes and close endings. It's rare to win from coast to coast and we did just that. You realize the Rams beat Denver by 3 today. Miami beat Chicago today. Dallas absolutely destroyed Jax today. The Giants with a coach who was coveted by both the Cardinals and the Giants have absolutely sucked this year. We are 6 games in, we have a rookie QB and won 2 games in a row to get back to 500. It's a very good win in a very tough league. We're actually in the mix with a rookie QB and a team that is sitting on tons of cap space. We are a year ahead of schedule and competing in the NFL.
The pick-6 to open the season was the Fitz version. The first one against the Dolphins was the Geno version. The second one was Pryor's fault for pulling up on the route. The first one against the Browns was a classic Fitz pick from trying to do too much on an attempted GWD. The second one against the Browns was a hail mary. The one against the Broncos was a tipped pass. And today's INT was the Fitz version.
Lol @ 2 quality teams in the NFL You are the exact poster child for my thread explaining why fans over react to single games.. Go read it
Absolutely, that is why FitzMagic, as opposed to FitzTragic, was my comp for him coming out. His arm can't always cash in on those checks that his great vision and feel for the game write.
We're not saying his arm is as weak as Fitz. We're saying that he attempts passes that are above his arm talent just as Fitz does. Today's INT was a classic example. He had Anderson, I believe, even with the DB which is as good as him being open but because of pressure in his face he had to throw it off his back foot which caused it to be severely under thrown. A Rodgers, Favre, Mahomes type arm completes that pass or at least gets it to the WR. Not knowing his limitations sometimes gets him in trouble.
A successful two minute drill. A couple of big stops by the D coming off turnovers. A couple of big turnovers of their own. The offense moving the ball consistently. Did we punt once? All in all, a lot to like today. Just too many guys running around wide open, our coverage is cringeworthy.
Maye getting knocked out, in addition to the other guys missing from the secondary, had a big impact. I was originally harsh in my comments about the defense Bowles was calling in the second half - it looked like a "prevent" defense the way they were playing soft - but in light of the injuries, as well as playing a QB like Luck, I'm going to back off my earlier criticism.
Finally got home. Bad day at ORD forced a reschedule and I had to go thru Philly. I'll be watching the game on NFL Network this week. Sounds like the Jets won ugly but as has been said many times, a win is a win.
Yep, seven field goals - a team record and one shy of the NFL record I think. It worked today but certainly is not an indication of any kind of aggressive play calling in the red zone, or even approaching it.
