Ya think? They just had to settle for 7 FGs. From the first play, Colts were throwing the game away to Jets. Should have put this game away in 3rd quarter. A better team than the Colts would have found a way to win it.
I guarantee you if we had a QB with 500 career TD and a .018 Int percentage Bowles probably would to. Did you actually have a point?
Once it was 3rd and 19, it was the right call to run. If they had tried to pass or PA pass, and Darnold had been sacked, people here would have gone nuts about Bates' play calling knocking us out of reasonable field goal range. Take the points, and force it into 2 scores + 2 point conversion just to tie.
Colts were very bad so is the Jets defense,,,,,,take the win and the 3-3 record and be happy. Most of us know Bowels is a loser and a bad coach but take the win and rag on him another day there is plenty of time he will make it easy for us , today is not the day
Agree, but before that they could've tried a P.A. and gone for the jugular. The game was not out of reach for the Colts even after the FG.
This is why they should've gone for it rather than play so conservatively: https://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2018/10/why_jason_myers_fg_record_is_a_bad_sign_for_the_je.html Their lack of use of the P.A. is disturbing. Is Sam really so bad at it that they can't call it? Seems unlikely.
My 2 cents is that the OP had some legitimate concerns - with the Jets leading 30-13 I had the sense that the Jets were looking to next week. It seemed the D just completely fell apart at the line , admitting the colts RB's like a doorman outside a hotel. There were times all through out this game , with all the stupid penalties and questionable play calling that they didn't want to win this. Every time Nickerson is playing back there you have to expect at least one bone headed play from him.
Exactly! You need to have a killer instinct and keep your foot on the opponent's throat. Bowles got conservative - what else is new? - and the whole team sensed it. Hell everyone watching it sensed it! This was almost a case of "Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory". Most of those FGs were not sure things, and relying on that to win was a bigger risk than the risks Bowles passed up.
