Who's job is it to call a hurry up or no huddle offense? Does Bates even know about these two cutting edge concepts?
Kicking a FG down 22 points in the 4th quarter..unacceptable Wasted timeouts every game...unacceptable Zero half time adjustments...unacceptable Punting down TWO possession with 4 minutes left in the game...unacceptable. Time to fire Bowles.
It really is amazing. All of these things are the blatantly obvious signs of incompetence - you're not even mentioning the much more subtle points that account for the team being outscored 71-41 in their last 13 quarters.
There's a reason he was out of football for 5 years. Two of Bowles' three OCs were out of football for multiple years before he hired them. Speaks volumes.
Looks very much like a post that could have been written at any point during the last couple of years. Bowles has made no adjustments and has done nothing to make himself a better coach. He's currently the worst coach in the NFL. He needs to be fired 5 minutes ago.
Why the love affair with Crowell? Loser from Cleveland a Browns reject. I couldn't believe he missed a block on a blitz which ended with a sack of Darnold on the next play these coaches rewarded him with a carry!!!
I was NOT unhappy with Bates' play calling against Jacksonville. Definitely a big improvement over the Cleveland game. There were about 5? different missed deep balls that were either drops by receivers, poor ball placement or overthrows by Darnold (a 50+ yarder to Anderson he overthrew was brutal), as well as a 40ish yard Quincy ****ing Enunwa magic play that got negated by a holding penalty on Carpenter. I liked seeing Bates dial those up and it seemed he had more stuff than he did against Cleveland. The offense did not play well against a monstrous Jacksonville defense. Darnold was constantly getting pressured and having to throw the ball away, and the offensive line got absolutely no push to open running lanes for our backs. Receivers were just flat covered by Jacksonville's killer secondary and there were numerous should-have-been picks Darnold was lucky to get away with. I think there's definitely room for improvement on Bates' part re: 'scheming guys open' better, but the *offensive* playcalling was not an issue against Jacksonville. On the other hand, the defense's utter inability to defend the shallow cross... (linebackers being praised for making tackles after 7-yard gains by the announcers also confused me).
Let's see what the players think... Q tries to walk it back, but his original statement makes it clear who he thinks is to blame.
