I agree. Without watching the game again it did seem like the receivers from the Browns were a lot more open when Mayfield came in than earlier in the game or when the Jets offense was on the field.
After Revis was repeatedly beaten in tight press coverage? And this from a HC who people whine, proving they dont know what theyre watching, doesnt make adjustments? What would you propose, that he kept lining Revis up at the line to watch teams throw the ball deep for easy TDs?????
I dont pass out and if it was all over the media why is google not showing any results for this info.
Just to be clear the info behind the Morton firing was the players and coaching staff bumped heads with him constantly. That his game plans centered around Aderson and would neglect other players plus he couldn't establish a run game. I'm guessing to the extremely knowledgeable (high post count) this translates to all Bowles wants to do is run the ball and had him fired due to it. The mentality on this board is someone with a high post count says something and the clowns fall in line and mimic it. Hence why I get aggravated when it runs wild as it is currently and starts calling stupid stupid.
The run ins and bumping heads were definitely part of the reason, it was widely reported. I don't recall ever hearing that game plans were centred around Anderson and Kearse received a high proportion of targets too. It could well be accurate though. The running thing was overblown and was taken by many as Bowles just wants to ground n pound, whereas it was purely a situational thing. Morton wanted to keep the run/pass ratio regardless of circumstances and Bowles wanted to run first at some points. There are merits to both sides of the argument for me, but - like it or not - Bowles is the HC and has to have final say. If Morton wouldn't do it he had to go.
The bigger question is: If you don't trust your DC to make ALL the calls, why is he still your DC? Not saying that situationally you might override a call here and there, or tell him to make some changes, but if you actually have to take over portions of his job, why is still employed?
Here's Cimini's story: Coach Todd Bowles vehemently shot down a published report that indicated he had taken back some of the play calling from defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers. An animated Bowles said it was "100 percent false. Completely a lie." Bowles said he hasn't done any play calling on defense and has no plans to do so. He said, "It never happened. End of discussion. It never happened. It's not gonna happen. If I want to take the play calling or call some of the offense, I have that prerogative as a head coach. But I never did any of that." This is really starting to get weird.
Oh come on no Weird indeed! Interesting to see if the team circles the wagons around this or if the wheels come off.
John Morton. Denver game didn't they lay down like little girls because they were losing 20-0. Every coach that has been fired has been on the offensive side. But the defense has been getting gashed for 3 years and running. But the DC is the safest coach in the NFL.
thats wierd cause all the info that came out on morton was he refused game plan around anyone except anderson couldnt get a run game going and the players + staff hated him and constantly bumped heads. But i guess that translates to Bowles holding him back w/e man
Yep never heard any of that. Powell had his best year last year under Morton, With a 75 yard run for TD. The TE was actually utilized for the first time since Dustin Keller left and ASJ had a great year. Elijah McGuire had a pretty good rookie season and had the second longest run. So to catch you up that's 2 long runs in the same season under Morton. Kearse had a great year along with Anderson. Finally, the bum McCown had a great year I guess. They gave him 10 million to be a backup. But it was Morton's fault. Got it now what other pieces of junk are you gonna pull from your lower backside.
I'm late to the party. I was going to say it earlier that Manish "leaked" this from yet again mysterious alien sources somewhere near Alpha Centauri, and then Todd Bowles turned around and categorically denied it being true. My MIL used to say things like, "They say we're getting a bad Winter." My BIL always said back whenever she said 'they say' - about anything- , "Ma, who the hell is THEY." I realize a journalist has to protect his/her sources, but first of all, real journalism doesn't even exist anymore. 20% of the time I think Manish Mehta is borderline making stuff up that he can't get called out on. More like he palms a $20 bill to janitorial staff or to someone in the team uniform laundry room and fishes around for "exclusives". So Manish, who the hell is THEY? Either way, least of our worries if true or false.
here is some of the stories its been a minute so a lot of been buried, but here's the weird thing. I can't find a single story linking what you said to be even rumored let alone fact. https://nypost.com/2018/01/17/the-behind-the-scenes-reasons-for-firing-john-morton/ https://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2018/01/john_morton_first_only_season_with_jets_filled_wit.html https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2754670-john-morton-reportedly-fired-as-jets-oc-after-1-season
The Buffalo coach gave it a game and a half before he took back defensive playcalling. That’s leadership We’re 4 years into Bowles tenure, defensive playcalling has sucked throughout and he’s making it known that he absolutely is not taking playcalling over
