I wouldnt say incompetent. It did overlook a possible path the game may take, simply bc the unique situation dictated it.

Do you think the Jets are practicing for Cody Kessler if we knock Blake Bortles out of the game on Sunday?

We do have 11 days to prepare. We could look at the 23 passes he threw for the Browns last year and maybe take a look at his game tape against UNLV in 2015. It might be worth putting in a game plan and having the players run against it for 5 or 6 days.

would it be so bad to have a plan B in place just in case you wind up playing against Qb2 ?

Thye had plenty of game tape on Mayfield, just not NFL game tape. Of course NFL game tape would be much better, but even watching his college tape would enable you to see some tendencies and plan for it.

But beyond that, are you saying that there is NO way to adapt to new circumstances in a game? Because that's what was called for, and Bowles showed no ability to deal with it. It doesn't take two - or three, or however many backup QBs the other team has - to be prepared for different circumstances. This has been a persistent problem with Bowles. He might come up with a good initial game plan, but then the other team solves it and he has no response to that. Mistakes happen; turnovers happen; bad calls happen; injuries happen; and sometimes you can't overcome them all, but good coaches seem to find a way to overcome most of these. Somehow Bowles usually doesn't. Should blame be placed on the players? Sure, but it doesn't seem like Bowles does much of that either and the same players seem to make the same mistakes over and over.

You think he's a good coach just having to deal with mediocre talent and bad breaks? I disagree. I say his record says exactly who he is.

Even if you don't create a fullblown gameplan, you should at least have some idea of what his tendencies are, and a generic plan for dealing with different situations.

In addition, Mayfield was in before halftime, so not that it is an amazing amount of time, but there was an opportunity for the coaching staff as a whole to come together and determine the best way forward. Either they didn't do this, or they did, and Bowles said we are good as is.

To me the killer in that game was the drive in the 2nd quarter right after we scored a TD. We had 3 and outed Cleveland on 3 plays that took about .35 seconds of play time. Johnson's unsportsmanlike conduct penalty gave them a first down. They punted 5 minutes later after Taylor was hurt. That put our D on the field for a very long time in the 2nd quarter. We got the ball back at the 2:45 mark and proceeded to 3 and out taking under 1 minute off the clock. Our D comes right back on the field, short week and gives up a quick FG drive. We got 1 first down on the kickoff in the 2nd quarter before punting we stop Cleveland get the ball back and with about 1 minute of possession put Cleveland on our 8 and put our D back on the field.

That's an awful lot to plan for.

That just sounds like a normal football game to me. Nothing exotic to plan for.

You make it seem like once the game starts, the players are sent out there on their own and have to make plays and no adjustments are possible. If that's so, why do coaches send plays in with players, use hand signals, and even headsets to tell players EXACTLY what to do on every play? The NFL is a virtual video game played with real players! Sorry, adjustments needed to be made and either weren't or were the wrong ones, in any case the "buck stops" with the HC, and he failed once again to respond to changing circumstances.

thats fine if the coaches are simply noting tendencies and what-not. I wouldn't want the team taking practice reps off of preparing for the starter for the backup. I want me team focused on the #1 QB, im not worried about Kessler or Brian Hoyer or any other backup. He's a back up for a reason.

In this case, you had the #1 draft pick come into the game, obviously more talented than Tyrod, but guys on here are right in the fact that the CS shouldve had some idea on how to change the scheme before the game started, or at least make adjustments in-game to address where we were getting picked apart

We adjusted all over the place. Our players turned the ball, had amazingly stupid penalties and dropped an INT. We were in the game till the end. It's a short week road game. This we didn't adjust is crazy. They had a hot QB and our QB sucked on the road. Sometimes the other guys are better.

We are clearly in a rebuilding mode that's why we traded TB and are starting SD. TB wins that game easily.

If we wanted to win that game the big adjustment would have been to bring in Josh McCown in the second half. Wins are obviously not what this team is all about this year.

Even Jamal Adams admits they were completely unprepared for Mayfield. SMH this staff

Colorado already said all of the various ways these comments are absurd. To ignore the difference between not preparing for a confirmed backup QB like CJ Beathard if the present and future of the franchise Jimmy G goes down, and not preparing for the obvious starter-in-waiting Mayfield who is clearly going to be starting at some point, and who is a completely different QB than the mediocre-at-best Taylor, and then to compound it by believing that the way you play against those two players is the same, and then to further compound it by refusing to adapt when your ridiculous plan is failing, is total incompetence, pure and simple.

I don't give a crap if you agree with me or not. What is much more distressing to me is that virtually every time someone says something negative about Bowles you attack them personally. It makes you look like a clueless jackass, but if that's what you're going for, congratulations on a job well done.

Lets review. Darnold's best game was game 1. No existing NFL tape existed. Detroit had weeks to prepare for him. Mayfield didn't start and only got in because we injured Taylor. You're acting like that's why we lost the game.

The Browns made a decision to bring Taylor in and start him to protect Mayfield. They went a completely different route than we are. He came in because Taylor got hurt. The Browns had no intention of starting him or bringing him into that game. The fact that he is the QB in waiting is a completely irrelevant point to why he got in that game. Taylor got hurt.

The route we are taking is we had two better QB's on our roster to win now. The best one TB was traded so we didn't have a QB controversy. That was Mac's decision. I suspect both Mac and Bowles like Dorsey and Jackson consulted and made the decision on how to bring along their respective rookie QB's. Clearly Cleveland wanted to protect Mayfield and he got in because of injury in spite of the fact that Mayfield is obviously better right now than Taylor. We on the other hand made a decision to start Darnold and trade TB when it was obvious TB was better than Darnold right now because that's how we wanted to bring Darnold along.

Bowles may well suck as a head coach. That's not why we lost this game.

I get that your emotionally distraught over the Jets losing and can't think clearly.

So you're claiming that they lost through no fault on Bowles's part? He coached perfectly, but the players and circumstances completely outside his control or ability to influence were the reasons they lost. Not any aspect was Bowles's fault?

Good. Now all we need to do is get rid of all the players who keep making mistakes, and ensure nothing happens outside of the norm or Bowles's game plan.We should go undefeated!

Who said he coached perfectly? I watch the Steelers. A completely undisciplined team. Huge amount of penalties every single week. Far from a perfectly coached team. Embarrassing on the field and off the field almost every week. Tomlin is a great football coach.

If that's the case he's an even worse coach. It was clear by the middle of the first quarter that Mayfield was a possibility with Taylor sucking tremendously and the crowd chanting Mayfield's name over and over. And even THEN, Mayfield came in in the first half. So you knew he was going to be playing the whole second half. WTF were they doing at halftime??? certainly not adjusting

Cleveland scored their first TD at the very end of the 3rd quarter. We stoped them and forced a punt on their first possession of the second half. We did nothing with the ball on O. We turned the ball over in scoring position and held them to a FG. We did adjust coming out of halftime for Mayfield. We turned the ball over. We had penalties in the first half that kept our D on the field. Our D was on the field a long time in the second half. It was a short week on the road. They got better play from their QB than we did. You know what they might just be better than us at QB right now.

Cause and effect in football games often come down to QB play.
