Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here--and maybe it's because I'm a little older. It's not about being "offended" or "bothered" by it--I've seen much MUCH worse and in a different setting--it would have been funny, appropriate and maybe even hilarious. And it's not about wanting these guys to not show emotion. It was fucking embarrassing--as a Jet fan I feel like the entirety of football fandom saw that and just shook their heads and what assclowns our team is and our fanbase. And I LOVE when these guys show emotion--hey OBJ--you want to kick a FG netting then propose marriage to it? Funny, good emotion. Getting down on all fours to pee like a dog? Wiping your ass with a football? Like it's toilet paper? I'm not expecting upper crust British class out of these guys but geezuz fuck how about we leave ALL bodily fluids--urine, excrement, sperm--OUT of the celebrations. Is that TOO much to ask?
Well that's an awesome logical fallacy. Violent sport therefore ok to wipe ass with football like toilet paper. I would like to subscribe to your podcast.
Question for the board. Notwithstanding the penalty. Did anyone find the ass wiping funny? Entertaining? Cool? Totally acceptable?
it was a 15 yard penalty whether you think its cool or kids watch spongebob or not the jets lost the game and penalties were a big reason why.
V risky trade to make given the fact that he cannot be extended during the season. Unless you're parting ways with 4th/5th rounders, it's hard to justify a 3rd or higher when it's not set in stone that he won't test FA.
This is where i am. Future 3rd or current 4th or later combo AS LONG as he agrees to play. At this point, i do not believe he will play this season even if he is traded. He knows 27 years old the mileage card will be played on a HB like him next season.
I'm just saying, let's not act like a football game is a Sunday mass. It's people beating the shit out of each other. You aren't watching it for lessons and high morals. Funny, yup. Acceptable, nope. Worthy of creating a thread to talk about how terrible it was? Absolutely not. False equivalency. That flag did nothing. I'm not excusing penalties and I'm definitely not on Bowles' side when he says it's on the players so don't confuse me for an apologist. I just simply don't think it was anything worth laughing at, then shaking your head at, then moving on from. But that's just me.
Any trade would have to include only conditional picks. Bell may decide not to play, or to leave after the season. I don't want the Jets to trade for him, but I'd give up a 3rd rounder, on the condition he plays all games he is available for (whatever the number is once the transaction is complete) and that he signs an extension in the offseason. If one isn't met, it becomes 5th. If neither is met, a 7th. Pretty easy, works for both teams and minimizes risk to Jets.
Why do all internet discussions need to hyperbolate into the stratosphere? Nobody is equating a football game with Sunday mass and no one is looking for lessons or high morals from a bunch of morons. Just a modicum of civility. And yes, I made up that word. So, that, to you, was funny? You mean "funny" in that embarrassing type of way, not the "ha-ha" type of way, right? Please tell me yes. Hey, maybe I was raised differently but that wasn't remotely funny given the setting. Nor was OBJ's dog peeing. Hell, my 24 year old son thought it was embarrassing. Nobody created a thread about it.
Again, you cannot judge a stupid personal foul penalty in hindsight and say it was ok because nothing negative came of it. That's not how this works.
1. I don't know, that's a good question. That's kind of what I've been wondering this entire time I'm watching people lose their minds over a stupid celebration. 2. Funny. As in haha. As in, if you watched the movie Dumb and Dumber and didn't laugh, the problem lies with YOU. 3. Somebody created a thread about it. It may have been merged into the main game thread, but someone created a thread about it. Can't remember who though. Hmmm... You also can't say the Jets lost because of penalties then point to a penalty that had no affect on the outcome of the game. That's not how this works either.
I think he meant it galvanised the Browns after he took the piss out of them with his arse wipe and disrespect of their fans. I am no prude but if he did that in front of your kids on a park, you would knock him out, it was classless and made us look shite in front of everybody, yes in all reality it is a fuck all action and down the pub after a few pints it would be amusing, it may even have been a little amusing if we had won and therein lies the problem, after that incident we went on to lose the game. Could be a coincidence or it could have been the huge incentive push the Browns required and the addition of Baker Mayfield on top.
Dumb and Dumber was a comedy--meant to be crude. And funny. You know what movie I almost tore rib cartilage laughing at? Jackass. Some of the most depraved comedy ever put on film and cutting edge for when it came out. NOT a football game. That's the point. In some settings, crudeness is outstanding. Crude humor is great. I never said the Jets lost because of the penalty. What I said was, you cannot excuse a really stupid personal foul penalty because...you know...nothing bad happened. Because NEXT time it could.
At this point I have nothing else to say other than Jackass is one of the best movies of all-time. All three really. And you didn't blame that penalty, but someone else blamed penalties. Yes, true. But this one had no affect on the outcome of the game so it's kind of a farce to pretend it did.
I'm not gonna keep this argument going. I think it's a really dumb argument, especially when it happened almost a week ago and has had ZERO effect on anything. So everyone that quoted me, I'm not ignoring you. We'll just agree to disagree. This argument is derailing this thread. Some people hated the move, others think it was dumb and insignificant.
It was embarrassing at the time he did it and even more so when Crowell did jack shit the rest of the game.
THIS!!! And millenials wonder why they are given such a hard time. They'll never get it. They're too immature. Everything's ok and acceptable in their world. As you say, LA and Colorado, even putting morals or class aside, it was just a stupid, immature thing to do that hurt the team. It isn't about not showing emotion, it's about being smart and showing it in the right ways and the right time.
Yes, they see things, but that doesn't mean that it's ok or that we should go out of our way to expose them to such things. Have you ever wondered why so many kids are doing dumb shit like eating Tide Pods, snorting anything they can get their hands on, and committing suicide? Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, it's because they're seeing stuff that they can't handle or deal with, and life seems too brutal and ugly. The job of parents is to protect our children to some extent and to try to make a better world for them so that they don't have to be exposed to stupid, immature, crass crap like that. It isn't rocket science, but maybe even that is over your head.
