Not for nothing, but I did say this was happening weeks ago. The thread I started before seems to have been deleted:
trade picks for Bell....still don't make playoffs....watch Bell sign elsewhere in '19. Im DESPERATE for talent on offense but I say pass
Yeah, this is a major issue. The Jets can't formally work on any contract extensions with him until 2019. No guarantee the dude stays here.
I'm not necessarily against this, but it seems like a short term solution that will lead to a longer term problem, and won't solve the underlying issue that Bowles should've benched Crowell immediately, and failing that, should have him suspended for at least one game. Bringing in a guy who has a well earned reputation as self-centered and mouthy to a situation where the HC hasn't shown he can control such types of players is risking that attitude to grow. If they do this, there had better be incentives and clauses to protect the team and enable them to get rid of him without long term financial impact.
Wouldn't this trade create expectations? I'm not sure if this regime is ready for that. They're so cozy right now with the Johnsons no mandate to make the playoffs.
I know that the Jets don't have any elite playmakers, but they're much worse at WR than at RB. Doesn't make sense to me at this point short of trying to make a splash to save jobs.
Are we though? Or does having an amazing play maker coming out of the backfield help open up the receivers? We have been having serious separation issues with our receiving corps. Does adding Bell help open that up? I think that's a real possibility
Might be right. I wonder if Chris is saying all the right things to the media but behind closed doors he has placed both Mac and Todd on final notice. But how would the Jets benefit if we loose him. Do we get a second compensatory pick?
It's also a situation of will he play. He's claiming since he was tagged and did not get the contract he's not playing in order to save himself for free agency payday.
I'd give up our 3rd rounder for him. I know people here will complain about giving up picks but during the off season if the jets would have traded teddy for bell people here would have been excited and this is pretty much the same thing. realistically all we are giving up for him is cap room at that point and he'll be a huge help to pair with powell and crowell. not only that but in 2019 powell will walk as a FA so bell, crowell, and cannon and/or maguire sounds pretty good and we sitll have picks/money for a pass rusher and o-line help
