LOL! I understand why fans of this team jump to conclusions. It's hard for us to constantly see mediocre or bad teams. I am young enough to have only dealt with it for a fraction of the time as many of the guys, and gals, on here, but I think we are finally truly doing this right. I think we have spent too many years trying desperately to win games and make the playoffs with stop gap options, not anything fit for long term success. I hate New England just as much as the next guy, but I want a team like New England. I don't just want to win one or two years, I want to win year after year. I fully believe in Sam Darnold. I think he was an excellent pick and I think he will be the franchise QB we have desperately needed for decades. I think he will be a pro bowler and will be one of the top QBs in this league for a long time. But with all of that comes growing pains and development games that many aren't going to like. Let him make the mistakes. Watch the tape, and fix them. Josh McCown said one thing yesterday that really sums up why I am not worried:
Been a fan since 1967 fellows... seen it all. I seem to recall that the talent on this team just two years ago was piss poor and while we have better talent we have holes... and the young guys are going to make mistakes, period. Personality I would bench BS for anyone ... That is a glaring problem as is the OL . I want them play hard and get better each week. Young teams are inconsistent so be prepared for and up and down season. I am happy we found out FQB he is the real deal.... keep the faith even if sometimes you want to shoot the TV....
Agree with 90+million in cap space next season All those needs should be address along with draft picks...... then we’ll see if Our GM is any good.... we should taking a BIG step forward!!!! If we don’t heads will roll !!
A question,,,,,why in the world was Adams even put into that situation to blow the assignment ? My point is who in their right mind blitzes in that situation ? Todd Bowels and that other genius Kasey Rodgers thats who !
Although we've disagreed on a number of things, mainly how much the CS should take the blame, or not, I fully agree with you on this point. Which is why I'm so critical of Bowles & Co. I just don't see them as having what it takes to build and sustain a SB-caliber team. I could be wrong, and hope that I am, but so far he hasn't shown that he can be that guy. As CBG said earlier: "Cman one of my personal favorites and it seems everyone uses it after they lose = " we did not execute " and my answer is no shit but more importantly " why did you not execute ". That's the million dollar question that Bowles needs to answer.
The timeouts avoiding the delay of games have to stop now. That cost us at the end of the first half and it will cost us again in the future. Darnold has to improve his clock awareness and Bowles needs to communicate that to him.
This was a perfect example of what I posted the other day and got into an argument with several others over. My belief is that time outs are way more valuable - as a rule - than any given down. Of course there are exceptions. Near the goal line or inside FG range and you need the points, but losing 5 yards would jeopardize that, okay call the T.O to avoid the D.O.G. penalty. But in cases like Sunday, what is more valuable, saving 5 yards or having the chance to score? No brainer IMO. In fact, I think the decision to call a T.O. should only be in the HC's hands. If you don't trust your rookie QB to call his own plays, why would let him make a decision even more critical than that? And no, I'm not advocating that Darnold call his own plays - at least at this point in his career - I'm just saying that if you ca't trust him to make the right decision about a play, how can you trust him to make the decision about a potential game-altering T.O.?
I agree with the question of why and here's my answer to that question: Teams will always make mistakes. Coaches will make mistakes throughout games. Yes, these players are the most talented athletes in the world, but they are human. Mistakes will occur. But when you look at teams like New England or like Green Bay, what is the underlying reason they continue to win? A franchise QB. New England makes A LOT of dumb mistakes. Bellicheck has been known to make many coaching decisions that make you scratch your head, but why do they always continue to win and pull games out? Tom Brady. Last week New England was on the ropes. They made countless mistakes against Jacksonville, but yet they found themselves down 11 points and driving until it all fell apart. My point is, we have been trying to win for years without an answer at the most important position in football. When Fitzmagic had his amazing first year, we won 10 games. We won those games because Fitzmagic was consistently very good. He threw for almost 4000 yards with 31 TD and 15 INT. He had an amazing year and won games. I agree, this coaching staff has a lot of things that need to improve, but I think the problems are magnified when you have constant poor play at QB. I'm not talking about this past week. That's excusable with a 21 year old rookie. But I think we often get caught trying to figure out "why" when the answer is right in front of us. If we can't consistently score points and not stall on offense, we will struggle. The defense will tire, the momentum won't be in our favor, and the exhaustion will set in. Coaching staff will start to scramble and make more mistakes. Everything will snowball. The answer is a better offense with a franchise QB. The mistakes will happen no matter what, but if our offense scores and drives the ball, suddenly things start to seem easier. The Lions game proved that
With the Patriots playing Jacksonville in the later game, I was hoping to see the Jets Dolphins game at 1:00 PM. Unfortunately I was forced to see KC and Pittsburg instead in my area, New England. With the Pats and the Jets both losing, the Dolphins sit at #1 in the East. So maybe an excuse would be the Dolphins are much better than we are giving them credit for. But I am still trying to come with grips with the Fitz and the Bucs beating the Super Bowl champs. What was even more strange was watching the Fitz or should I say Conor McGregor II post game interview. The fact that he had to end the interview early because he borrowed his teammate clothes was hilarious. I wonder if Desean Jackson will ever wear that outfit again. I don't know if Jet nation is happy for him or not. Ok as to final excuses I would say the Jets are in a rebuild mode and they are going to have their ups and downs. This is only the 2nd game of the season, to early to puke yet as a Jets fan. If the Dolphins are for real then this loss is explainable. Otherwise I am pissed because I couldn't see the game.
The Dolphins are not a good team. Tannehill threw for 168 yards. They had 2 turnovers. 257 total offensive yards. They also scored 0 points in the entire second half. We made a lot of stupid mistakes and turned the ball over 3 times. We shot ourselves in the foot over and over
Like I said I was not able to watch the game. This then appears the Jets somehow found a way to lose this game.
I don't always like to just say "we lost because of our own mistakes" but this was truly a game we lost, not a game Miami won. I hate Miami considering I live there, so maybe I'm bias, but there were too many issues we caused that could have been avoided. Darnold threw 2 interceptions. The first one was expected from a rookie. Just a dumb mistake. He looked off the linebacker but then assumed he had moved for good. He never saw him come back and threw it to a receiver expecting there to be no coverage. Dumb mistake that I'm sure he'll correct. The second one was on Pryor and was in the end zone. Pryor ran a poor route and did not even attempt to make the catch. Defender picked it off in the end zone, which I still think the defender was bobbling the ball before two feet hit in bounds. At half time, Herndon couldn't find the end zone and time ran out on the half yard line. Should have been a TD or field goal at least. We were driving down field and Robby Anderson fumbled the ball away as the drive was picking up steam. Likely would have resulted in points. And with all of these turnovers, we had a number of 3 and outs that gave the defense very little rest which then resulted in blown coverage and an exhausted front seven. Miami scored 20 points in the first half and 0 in the second. If we had not made so many mistakes that 20 points might have been less. But let's give them the 20 points they scored. We should have scored much more than 20.
Did you know that the Rams, Jets, GB, Dallas and Jacksonville are 5 of the youngest teams in the NFL? Average age for them is 25.5 to 25.8. I’m trying to figure out what those teams are doing differently that allow them to have some degree of success compared to what the Jets are doing. Aaron Rodgers definitely is a difference maker. Other than him why are the jets not showing the upward trend yet? Maybe after this year? I’m being serious not trying to be negative, just wonder what is the difference?
They’re are 1-2 years ahead of us. Sunday’s lost ,yea it sucked to lose, but did nothing to lessen my optimism for the future. The d was as good as you can ask a d to be in this era and the qb wasn’t really the problem. A few mistakes were made and it’s easy to find the 9 points needed to get that win. One more cycle to upgrade some positions and add talent. 2019 we will see a big step forward.
