I think Sam looked very good. He threw for over 300 yards with a TD. Yes he had 2 INT, but I only blame him for one. That second INT in the end zone was on Pryor who didn't even look for the ball. He had poor offensive line play today and had many drops from receivers, a couple also from Pryor. Offensive line also couldn't help establish a run game, which makes Danrold's job much more difficult. For a 21 year old rookie in his second NFL game ever to go out there and throw for over 300 yards and keep us in the game, I give him major props. Yes, there were a couple dumb throws and over throws he had, but that is all expected. Overall, he played a very good game. Unfortunately, the entire team didn't help much
Could have been better, but I thought he was the best offensive player in the game today, on both teams. Both picks were just brutal though. One in the endzone, the other giving them great field possession. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
@Br4d - Chime in please. @legler82 - I was at the game and didn't see a post from you about Darnold. How did he look in your eyes? @FJF - How did he seem to you?
I was at the game and thought that he looked pretty well. I’d like to see him move up in the pocket more. There wasa couple times that it would have bought him some more time. He started really slow, but in the 2nd half, he was seeing the field real well and did a nice job of making plays.
I saw some good things ..he does better when he is mobile that's for sure.He seems to be able to buy time and make plays and the OC needs to start writing these up by design. But he made some bad throws,he wasn't very accurate and kept overthrowing his receivers. It a short week and the Browns are looking like a decent team let's see how he responds to the loss.
Darnold wasn't any worse this week, it's just last week everything broke right for him and this week everything broke wrong.
There were more impressive throws this week than last.I no longer doubt his arm strength one bit.The lack of vertical passing is by design and a result of the OL woes. The difference was he made acouple more mistakes today & the big plays werent for scores like they were a week ago
I really felt he could've won us that game, the team really let Darnold down today. Offensive line, receivers outside of Q, the tight ends. But when the ball is in his hands, I like our chances. Kid is a gamer.
He's a natural gunslinger when he's turned loose. I expect to see future game plans open up after what we saw in the second half. He likes to go to his tight ends, but man... Herndon has to make some plays. The end zone pick was the backbreaker. I know the announcers faulted Pryor for shody route running but the only person who could make a play on that throw was the DB. Sam should never have let that go. He will continue to make mistakes but if we find a consistent running game, he's going to have a great rookie season.
The difference between him and other rookie QB's is that Sam made bad throws "BUT" I believe every bad throw I saw was single coverage so he made the right read. I don't get the jump ball in the end zone to Robbie Anderson, that's NOT the guy you want for a jump ball, they have Pryor and Enunwa for those plays. I put that one on the OC who I thought had an awful game, he barely used Pryor in the 1st half when it was clear he needed a guy like him along with Enunwa to make the offense go. The int in the back of the end zone was a poor throw, he needs to lead the receiver or preferably not throw it on a cross in the middle of the field, he doesn't have the experience yet to make those throws. The middle of the field is fine if a receiver is sitting down in the zone in the middle. His touch was a bit off, he threw a bullet to Pryor when it wasn't needed, he badly missed a WR wide open in the end zone (Herndon I believe) even the ball to Anderson needed more air to allow him to try to make a play (still the wrong receiver to try it with but he needed to make a better throw).
Notwithstanding the 2 INTs (the second one was 100% on Pryor) I thought he looked outstanding. So accurate on those intermediate throws, the one that Herndon dropped was a HUGE throw, perfectly thrown exactly when we needed a big play and it was dropped. He missed a couple but he hit so many perfect throws. A bad fumble, awful field position and terrible protection, he was pretty damn good. The real deal.
No matter how he played today, I find peace in knowing he is only 21 years old and every game he plays is preparing him for future. By age 24 he will have 3 seasons of football in his belt. Every mistake he does this year is another learning opportunity for him. Next week, I am more interested in how Darnold does than a win or a loss. I hope he shows upward trajectory as season progresses.
They keep saying he doesn’t make the same mistake twice. Let’s see if he throws another redzone pick.
That mistake wasn’t his. It was Pryor’s. Pryor had a good game with some big plays (one drop) but allowing that INT when a TD would have completely changed the game, instead have the momentum right back to the Fins.
I couldn’t really tell from where i was sitting. Seems like Pryor has a bad day on the small things. cutting his route short and not throwing a block before half to spring the guy for a TD. Would love to see a gif of it if anyone has it.
I was at the game, but from what I saw I thought his accuracy was off a little. I noticed he was high on a lot of throws. That said, there were so many back breaking mistakes made by the rest of the team, it was hard to build any momentum at all. This is a game that should have been a lot closer. It was annoying to watch with all the stupid mistakes, and the sun beating down on me all game didn't make it any easier.
According to Bob Glauber he was “downright mediocre.” I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Pryor being a dummy, Herndon turning to stone hands, Robbie A fumbling. But he was mediocre.
