Yes, he's been a better back, but he's also a lot more expensive and selfish, me-first-type player. The Jets don't need him. He's also 2 years older than Crowell and has a lot more wear and tear on his body.
You think? Good luck with that. People say [Fuck him] for a reason. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...illion-aint-enough-to-come-run-with-the-jets/
Bell has hurt himself this year and especially the last couple weeks. Before this year, most teams would have wanted him and paid a lot for him. I think he has turned many teams off and definitely many fans off. Some team will sign Bell to a long term deal this off-season though. I hope it is not the Jets. Certainly won't be the Steelers.
Possible cancer. We have some guys that may be deserving big money soon. Lets grow our own stars and pay them when its their turn.
This. And I think I like Crowell. He genuinely seemed joyous at his first win in over a year. [And he actually looks pretty good. I thought he was a short-yardage option, but then I saw him burning the secondaries with his speed. I also saw him catching passes out of the backfield during the preseason. He looks pretty good option as a starting RB, if you ask me.]
Pretty sure the difference is this "apparently Schefter has sources that are stating the Jets are speaking with Pittsburgh" Not saying the above is true but it makes it a big difference from your speculation Personally I would be against the trade unless it is a 6th or 7th round pick. Trade anything higher and you risk him still sitting out until week 10 and going to the highest bidder next season, losing a pick for 6 weeks of Bell.
Why would it close? Isn't this a forum built for discussion? I stated in the original post, this is a family member who works for espn who is telling me this. I can not verify it nor can I say for sure it's true. This is a discussion about the possibility. What would be the purpose of closing it? Enlighten me, what's the difference between this thread speculating about trading for Le'veon Bell and a thread speculating about potential head coaches to hire IF our head coach is fired DESPITE being under contract?
I have a feeling your family member is trolling you. There is no way any team would trade for him for multiple reasons: No team is allowed to sign him to a new deal per rules (deadline has passed). He MUST play or not play on the franchise tag. He's going into 2019 Free Agency (No matter what) He is sitting out to preserve his health. He'd still probably sit out even if he was traded (once again, he is not sitting out for a new contract, he can't get one even if both parties wanted to). He would cost at least a 3rd rounder since the Steelers would otherwise get a 3rd round comp pick by letting him walk. Is a 3rd rounder worth it for a player who will be going into 2019 free agency no matter what and probably not play until week 11? NO. HECK NO. Plus our two RBs just showed that they can do major damage. It's not a need right now. If anything he least fits our team.
You can't sign Bell once you trade for him. He is not allowed to be signed to a new deal. He'd probably sign his franchise tag and start playing for us Week 11 (so he gets a credited season) and then he will re-enter 2019 free agency. Him re-entering free agency is unavoidable. And if you think he'd agree in principal to a deal with the Jets before the offseason, you're crazy. This is the same guy who said he wants $100 million to play the RB position. He wants to go into Free Agency badly.
Teams are allowed to pay him more than the franchise tag this year. So anyone who trades for him will likely need to increase the $14.5M offer for this season. I believe teams could tag him one more time, so they'd have some level of exclusive rights between March and July to get a deal done. However, a 3rd tag is in the $18M range, which just increases his floor. Jets should be in a wait and see approach. If they beat Miami and Cleveland and have 10 days before the Jaguars, that might start to change things. It also depends on how Crowell and Powell do.
bottom line is Bell said he doesn't want to be here. Why would we want to trade for him? This isn't madden, there are locker room dynamics at play. This to me is more important than anything else including what he'd command salary wise.
To be fair he never said that. In fact, LeVeon bell is a Jets fan himself. It was more like making a self-deprecating joke (you know, the thing we do on here quite often) and he clarified that. I just don't like it from the standpoint that our backs are good enough and come quite cheap. (FROM 2011)
Look i get theres alot of pause when it comes to Bell..but when i think about the decades of zero explosion on offense& how many times ive seen threads like this over the years where we should “pass” on top skill talent for “other needs” it really really rubs me the wrong way. Nobody has said lets pass on Bell & find a different explosive talent” it’s more like “nah..we dont need a dynamc playmaker..we have Crowell & Powell”.The masses will have to forgive me for cringing..bc i couldnt disagree more
If that's the difference, I don't see it since we have a whole existing thread speculating about the Jets trying to get him.
I agree with you, which is why I posted what I did. We've had lots of discussion about trying to get Bell, pro and con, and that's why I posted what I did on Sunday but apparently that violated some rule or guideline. Then to my surprise, this thread pops up! Now it's been moved to the NFL and NCAA forum, so I guess all's right with the world, but frankly I still don't see why. This whole topic is about the Jets possibly trying to get Bell - how is that NOT a Jets topic???
