Darron Lee says the Jets knew what plays were coming because they had deciphered Stafford's hand signals etc. This has now become a big thing, with Bowles downplaying it and Patricia brushing it off.

Isn't it usually some lower-level coach (quality-control guy?) who is assigned to watch film to pick up tendencies and giveaways etc.? If that's true, some member of the Jets' staff deserves a raise for figuring out Stafford's hand signals and giving the Jets a big competitive advantage. NIce to see the coaching staff on the ball.

This doesn't bode well for Patricia. Using the same signals year to year is sort of sloppy. Isn't one of the hallmarks of Belichick disciples supposed to be excruciating attention to detail?

The lions are using a holding over OC from the last regime, who was promoted when the last OC was fired in part because other teams knew their signals because he never changed them. It looks like the carryover is just as dumb.

That's what I think, too, Harpua. Patricia is a defensive guy, so maybe he's one of these head coaches who forgets that he's no longer a coordinator and that he's now responsible for both sides of the ball. The holdover OC (Jim Bob Cooter) sounds like a character from the Waltons, doesn't he?

    Said this before.

Jets players should have kept their mouths shut. Now other lazy teams will be changing their signals.

I remember when Jim Bob Cooter was the backup QB at Tennessee back in the early 2000's. All the kids wanted a Cooter jersey.

They were outselling the jerseys of starting QB (Casey Clausen), as well actual star players, like Jason Witten.

How can you not love a name like Jim Bob Cooter?

I think Bowles & the coaching staff had the team well prepared & cranked up for this game. Kudos to the CS. Now lets see them continue throughout the season. I don't know if it was stealing signals or just play recognition from their formations. Either way Lee said they did a lot of film study the past week.:D

This, Lee needs to learn how to say nothing.
A quick, we did a lot of film study, recognized somethings and were able to make some plays.

Every team picks up on some signals. As Hasselbeck and J Fox both said on NFL Live yesterday what Lee meant was the Jets staff pointed out tendencies and hand signals the WRs and QB use to communicate with each other. Were well schooled in what the Lions did in situations and out of each formation. Its huge to know what they like to do out of those formations. That the CS did such a good job with the Jets is why they seemed to know exactly what was coming. Not quite like having the exact signals and calls down. One moron in the media added that the Lee included that they knew the audibles, which Lee never said.

Kudos to the scout team that mimicked Stafford's calls/checks/and hand signals so our starting D could get used to tee-ing off on it! McCown?

The last thing they should have done was reveal the team had become adept at film study ... now they won't be able to do that again.

    Unwise.

Edit: I see now that others are of a similar opinion. Just keep quiet from now on dummy.

Some doofus in the media confused hand signals with audibles? Now that is funny.

So what I think is, we have a kid, just played the game of his life, couldn’t believe how everything he saw on film all week was playing out the same way in the game and couldn’t hold back from saying exactly what he was thinking when a bunch of mics were in his face. My guess is someone is going to have a class with the media relations people this week.

Dead on. But the way he articulated the explanation for the performance to the media sort of undermines the performance, in my opinion.

Basically, this will open him up to troll questions like: "Well you didn't have any interceptions today, did you watch the film?"

    "No stolen signs, no interceptions"

    ...etc....

Frankly, I would like to advise Lee that "Loose lips sink ships."

He didn't have to let the world know this now, did he?
