Exactly. After this season there is no excuse of the roster not fitting the scheme. He'll have the horses he needs, if it's more of the same his schemes don't work
I think this time next year we're looking at a near championship caliber roster that will be legitimately competitive for a good stretch.
We have two huge factors working for us for once… No Woody Johnson f'n up FA shopping and a competent GM. As long as Woody stays far away from any personnel decisions, we're already ahead of the curve. All Macc has to do is be half right with his acquisitions and we're in good shape.
Good thing we have Chris Johnson here and not Woody who tends to make knee jerk reactions. Its been a different feel since Woody left. It sure would be nice to get the offense established this year, be competitive and win games, Jets build on it next year and don't have to waste practices installing a new offense. Darnold learning a new offense would really suck. Here's to hoping the coaches are aware of the challenges ahead and tackle them head on. Even if that happens, fans won't be happy with the progress.
haven't even thought about it brook. I don't like college guys and I'm hesitant on retreads.. i'd imagine matt lafleur oc, rams will be a hot candidate. I wouldn't mind picking off that tree. russ grimm won't be popular but an old school o line guy wouldn't hurt my feelings either. retread, maybe jim Schwartz, the angst that would cause on the board here makes him a favorite of mine.
I hear you but I am also tired of first time head coaches. I don't follow college football but if we fire Bowles I would love to have a guy with prior head coaching experience.
At this point I’m rooting for Bowles to show improvement and prove that he is worth keeping around for the long haul. The good news though is if he doesn’t the Jets will be the hottest job opening out there. With a legit top QB prospect along with likely a high pick and oodles of salary cap room I’d have to imagine we’d be able to get whatever coach we want.
I know most want that because its the opposite of what we have been doing but coaches with prior experience are coaches that have already sucked somewhere else. honestly though, as long as the person comes in ready to win through the qb I'm on board. bowles gets that, his entire time here he has tried to end up with a young potential fqb earning the starting job. this year he actually has the right guy.
Here’s the thing. No successful winning coach is going to leave a winning team and any of those guys are likely tied up for a few years. You’re going to get a retread. The next best thing is a coordinator but you’re never going to know if those guys are HC worthy. Or a college guy who flamed out in the pros but is coming back. It’s a crapshoot. We kind of have to root that Bowles is the guy because if he’s not it’s another 3-4 year reboot. Unless we somehow pry Sean Payton away from NO.
If Bowles winds up getting canned, the first order of business for the Johnsons is to decide if Macc goes too. Part of that decision should be based on whether Macc has a coherent vision that he's building towards. Before you hire a HC you need to have a blueprint established for what kind of team you want. Then you go and find a coach who can work within that blueprint. IDK if Macc has one, it's hard to say at this point. What is the identity of the NY Jets? That's the first step.
Honestly, I think he’s old news and a disaster waiting to happen. We’d be preening like grade school girls until he showed how awful he is as an NFL coach. He’s an emo version of his brother. He’s getting slaughtered for losing last week to ND. Been an abject failure at Michigan. I don’t think he’s the guy for NY or the Jets.
He seems to be that wonderful combination of being both thin-skinned and an arrogant jackass. I think he would be chewed up and spit out in the NY market.
