Why are you dissing the only QB that got us to a SB???...that's because your lame Interceptions are what all good QBs have but only the great ones win you a Championship
All 5 positions on our line are competent NFL starters. It’s not perfect but it should be more than serviceable. If we’re gonna wait to start Sam until we have the ‘16 Dallas line he’ll literally never play...
Thanks guys ...I've read all your posts some more agreeable to me than others TBH By Playing Devils Advocate here I actually got some Comfort Food ...so appreciate the comments even the nasty ones AHAHAHAHAHAH
Best answer of the bunch ..cheers! I thought down the line might be easier in schedule but no...THIS makes some sense
I don't think there is a blue print. He could be like Marino and come out hot right out of the box. He could be like Peyton and struggle early and then turn it around rather quickly. He could be like David Carr and get killed behind a terrible o-line. I think he will struggle and learn this year and then next you guys sign Bell and improve the o-line and he becomes a top 10 QB.
This year will probably get downright ugly at certain points. Hopefully fans will be able to look at the situation objectively. Darnold’s gonna post some crapola stat lines and he’ll probably do it early on. Odds are pretty heavily stacked against him for first 10 days of the season. Give him time to progress. Hopefully the mods will be heavy handed with the troll threads that will likely occur early on.
It’s just football at the end of the day Best way to win in the current NFL is loading up on players with a cheap rookie contract QB that can play Smart to speed up the process
I wanted to see what we have in the O line, before we threw the kid out there. The line did not play together all preseason and I agree that it is a mistake to throw the kid to the Lions or wolves. Our Line has huge questions and we will get some answers in a few days when the games are real. I hope and pray that the kid is ready and does not get killed but I think ( IMO) the decision to start Darnold so soon had a lot to do with ticket sales. Would you start the youngest QB ever ,,,,EVER,,,,,,,behind this o line ? I wouldn't
On paper- in advance you could argue that opening road game in prime time, rolling into 3 games in 11 days, with questionable OL, and sub par weapons, is kind of a shit deal for a rookie and asking for TROUBLE!!!!!!!!! But I give credit to them for having balls (or stupidity) to start Sam? Or is it desperation ? Fawk
All I know is that if Sam somewhat thrives in these 3 games within 10 days, we will be that much closer to the promise land.
Troll threads? You mean those that call a spade a spade? Those that point out that the baby is ugly? When things stink we don't all need to pretend we're in a rose garden. You're right, there will be times things get ugly - we've seen it before in the past few years and the same guy is driving the bus, what do you really expect to change? New guys are on the field; they're going to make mistakes - shit happens. The only stats that matter are wins and losses but most of us will be looking beyond that to see if the team is making progress for the first time in years or is still going backwards. We're here to discuss the team; this is not the third grade where "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" is the watchword. We're adults and the moderators are here to keep things from exploding, not to censor rightful condemnation of players, coaches or management when that is what's due any more than they should rein in unwarranted exuberance.
If Sam were a traditional pocket passer, with limited mobility I'd be more concerned about playing him behind our barely average O-line. But this kid has great feet, a quick release, and already seems to have a veteran's level clock in his head to know when to get rid of the ball, or get out of the pocket.
Ok to relieve your anxiety, here I go. A guy goes to a shrink for help. The shrink asks him what do you do for a living? The guy responds I am a mechanic. The shrink responds get under the couch! Being a critic of the Jets O Line I understand your concern. Having said that its not like Darnold is going to be facing the 86 Bears who loved to put QBs out of the game. The rules today protect the QB so he is probably going to be much safer than QBs of the past. The Jets have Darnold at a good price due to the rookie contract for 4 years. Year 5 they may even be able to franchise him. But after that as a FQB he will not be cheap. So the window of opportunity for the team to take advantage of his low salary from a cap point of view is somewhat limited. I do see some possible whole sale changes in O Line in 2019, but it actually makes sense to have Darnold get on the job experience right away because rooky contracts are not 5 years. So hang in there and I truly hope that this kid is your QB of the future, because Jets fans have suffered enough!
Macc seems to piecemeal the Jets. He can't address multiple weaknesses in a single offseason or even 3 offseason. The offensive line has been awful for a long time. Maybe next year he'll get around to it. I think I've said before I would rather lose with Darnold then win with McCown. We all know the whole league knows McCown won't take you anywhere. Darnold is the singular thing to get excited for this year with the Jets. If he progresses and learns from his mistakes, that will be a bonus. Then if Macc or whoever the next GM is can surround him with some protection, a bonafide stud RB then maybe the Jets will finally score more points than their opponents.
It's just a new blocking scheme for the run game. I think the Jets brass was thinking along the lines of , "hey let's at least upgrade the center spot" that clearly was a huge weak link last year. I feel like the Jets wanted to upgrade other spots but didn't see value there. So they are betting on having 4 starters return as they do have continuity going for themselves. And Long is regarded as being a good center. Only time will tell if this is a good move. But clearly the Jets will now need to invest in upgrades in the future on the line as they need to give Darnold everything he needs to be as successful as he can be.
Just so you know ..this thread would have been an afterthought if Macagnuts and Shoddy T didn't decide to get it azz backwards by investing so heavily in Defense Someone is going to say Mac "tried" to do all these things ...take out the dumb pick in Hack there are just no linemen considered..I am not sure what happened with Tunsel but he goes to 4th round and further to get this job done..ridiculous There isn't an expert out there who says you can win SOLELY on Defense in today's NFL ..a pass Happy point scoring league..getting a line and a beefed up Offense SHOULD have come first...instead we have 16 backs of late and 4 previous years of poor drafting imo
