How did everyone know this? How did Bowles know this? And further, even if this were a fact - it isn't - your ONLY chance of winning was to try and make that 1st down. It was a total pipe dream to think that the defense was going to stop Buffalo - talk about not making a play all damn game...everyone (except Bowles and you) knew the "D"D wasn't to going to stop Buffalo! SO what you're saying was that it was better for Bowles to just throw in the towel rather than try to win the game. THAT is the mindset I have a major problem with.

Wrong, Bowles chooses who plays, Mac has control of the 53 man. Bowles cannot cut players and replace them.

Bowles never played them until McCown got hurt so what is your point here? Who is the alternative? So, I am going to say this for the 100th time. Bowles and Mac are one in the same. One is not better then the other, and both if they do not do a good job, both should be fired together.

Bowles never once played Hackenberg and actually cold heartily refused to.

Bowles was also forced to play Petty because of injuries to his starting QB's.

But ultimately Bowles doesn't scout NCAA players, he doesn't have the final decision which players to draft and he does not sign Free Agents. That's all on the G.M.

I won't argue if Bowles and Macc are both let go frankly, but I would say Macc has done a slightly better job than Bowles IMO.

Cmon did you even WATCH week 1? McCown was HORRIBLE, the team was horrible. You have to find a spark elsewhere, perhaps get the ball into your play-makers via screens where you are hiding the QB, you have to find a way. I just watched 3 highlights alone and almost threw up in my mouth. The defense didn't do a great job either, I agree ... I said the team as a whole did not play well. McCown however barely moved the ball.

eh not really. I give Mac credit for that Sheldon trade that was used to trade up for Darnold but thats about it. Bowles has helped re-establish a culture here. I see it as a tie. But I think both have a lot of room to grow and I still want to see that through. This is the year to make it happen.

Are you claiming that the NC has NO input as to which players are put on the team? Bowles most certainly had input, as do all HCs. I'm not absolving Macc, but Bowles obviously gave feedback to Macc that Petty and Hack were adequate. And if they were SO bad, then he should've given Macc the urgency of that situation.

I understand that, but still, in order to WIN, you need to have your QB make the plays, you need to give him the chance to make the plays, even if he's blown every chance up to that point, because if you don't, you're essentially conceding the loss. But if you absolutely can't bring yourself to have your QB - in this McCown - try to win because you just think it's not his day, then you put your backup and ask him to do it. But by your own admission, you say how bad the defense played and so therefore no more likely to make a big play than McCown. What Bowles did in essence was to throw in the towel and hope he didn't lose by more points. It was a stupid, chickenshit decision.

How did Bowles "change the culture"? By FINALLY sitting a guy who was one of many who thumbed his nose at the rules repeatedly? It was Macc who got rid of the bad attitudes and who seemed to make a point of drafting "good characters" and skipping over some really good prospects who had sketchy attitudes. Only towards the end of last season did Bowles even do anything to hold players accountable, and based upon all the penalties in preseason it's hard to see him doing anything on that front so far. Yes, it was preseason, but we'll see what happens when the regular season starts. If it's "flag day" every game day again, that's a problem.

And yes, at this point he's the coach and he'd better show he's learned his lessons after 4 years on the job.

Just observe the mannerisms between last year and the year before. No one is above the team. Players are motivated to play for the team, before with Rex ... he allowed players to be lazy, that has since changed. The core players are players that want to see the team do well, Darnold, Adams and Leonard Williams for starters. McCown coaching the QBs.

Yeah I would have liked for the ball to be ran more, less pass attempts for McCown ... just a different approach. Jets gave up 21 points that day, but they couldn't move the ball on O. Again, no one played well that week.

I am not saying Bowles turned in the towel, I would have had a different approach. McCown was not effective that day, and perhaps finding a spark else-where would have helped. If there was a backup worth a damn perhaps you put them in, but all indications were that Petty / Hack were not ready to step up and be that player. Unfortunately stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I’ve got an idea. Let’s do a hypothetical.

Your down nine points. It’s fourth down and four. Four minutes left in the 4fh quarter and you have two timeouts.

    Do you go fo it?

    Or are you Todd Bowles.?

First off we are bitching about the ineptitude of our defense not the offense. So blaming Mac on this point doesn't fit. He drafted exclusively D with the top picks. Bowles did very little with it.
Mo had a decent season thanks mostly to Snacks. Loosing Snacks was insane. After that Mo was a mess and the 3-4 was dead on arrival. None of the players we have really fit a 3-4. So if we can't figure out a better way we will continue to flounder defensively. So as much as we need a real pass rusher, the front line struggles even more without a real nose tackle, IMO. You really think Bowles has what it takes to change the defensive approach to fit the personnel?

Keep shoving the 1st three years of Bowles down our throats and I'll continue to emphasize the importance of..

    Tom Landry:
    9-28 after first 3 years (.243%).

Chuck Noll: 12-30 after first 3 years (.285%).

Weeb Ewbank: 13-22 after first 3 years (.371%)

Marv Levy: 19-29 after first 3 years (.395%).

Jimmy Johnson: 19-29 after first 3 years (.395%).

Dick Vermeil: 18-26 after first 3 years (.409%).

Bill Belichick: 20-28 after first 3 years (.416%). Same exact record as Todd Bowles.

Bill Walsh: 21-27 after first 3 years (.437%).

Mike Shanahan: 16-20 after first 3 years (.444%).

Bill Parcells: 22-25 after first 3 years (.468%).

    All saying hello.

And it's just weird to me how...

While criticizing the First 3 years of Todd Bowles it's funny how you rarely see any of you Bowles sceptic's mentioning the likes of aging and completely washed up players that Bowles has been forced to coach such as...

    Matt Forte.
    C.J Spiller.
    Eric Decker.
    D'Brickashaw Ferguson.
    Ryan Clady.
    Nick Mangold.
    Willie Colon .
    David Harris.
    Calvin Pace.
    Bruce Carter.
    Darrelle Revis.
    Antonio Cromartie.

    etc, etc, etc.

I guess it just wouldn't and doesn't fit your agenda driven criticism of this man, no?

Or how about the likes of two career losing JAG QB's in Shitzpatrick and McCown or two epic failures of Petty and Hackenberg?

    No mention huh?

As if the greatest of all time great Head Coaches could have ever won with that pile of stink, no?

And also no mention from you sharks of the likes of career nothing's in...

    Dee Milliner.
    Calvin Pryor .
    Quinton Coples .
    Dexter Mcdougle.
    Breno Giacomini.
    Wesley Johnson.

    etc, etc

Who were all already Jets before the arrival of Todd Bowles (and could easily list off another 20+ career scrubs).

As if Bowles was ever given a "Perennial Powerhouse Contender' of a roster capable of even "winning".

It's just too funny reading these scapegoat posts around here...

And with that said I've just presented a much better case for Todd Bowles than any of you have EVER presented against Bowles as a head coach.

  18. Matt Forte,Ryan Clady,Bruce Carter,Darrelle Revis & Antonio Cromartie were all acquired on Bowles watch.None were forced on him.If he didnt want them he shouldve spoken up.And to include David Harris on this list when He was a Bowles favorite to the point of stubbornly leaving him in the game in obvious passing situations & being upset when Harris’ RELEASED??Who aree you trying to kid?

He was also highly in favor of bringing back Fitz as it was hinted that Mac was the more apprehensive one to re-sign.

What new head coach DOESNT have poor draft picks & washed up vets sprung on him?And guess what?Hes had 4 YEARS to clean it up or better yet actually develop some of those poor draft picks into useful pieces??

Shit man, I got people coming at me for conservativeness on offense too. Mac is the man at the end of the day that turns the card in, he himself was a former scout. I don't wanna hear shit about Bowles completely influencing Mac's draft board. If Mac is doing that then, Mac is not the GM we need here. Mac picks the players, Bowles decides who plays on game-day and coaches them up. At the end of the season, surely both discuss which positions to address via FA / Draft. However at the END of the day, we know who turns in the card and who offers the contracts.

Leonard Williams has been very solid for the Jets, despite his low sack total. Wherever you like to admit it or not, he and McLendon completely made up for the loss of Snacks in the run game. Check the #s. Lee while he lacks physicality, I saw a lot of good plays by him late last year. I swear I hope he covers better, cause at times the Jets can use him on blitzing packages. To me, he is a complete work in progress, and we will see this regular season how he performs. His job is on the line and with that so is Mac and Bowles especially.

Mo being a mess was being Mo was being an asshole. He was one of the most talented DEs to play for the Jets. His ability to rush the passer had nothing to do with Snacks. Snacks barely played on passing downs to begin with. The problem is the Jets are freaking allergic to drafting / scouting pass-rushers. The nose I think is fine for now, you can't have stars at every position, but McLendon will hold down the spot and look for Fatukasi to hopefully make some plays in the run game and develop.

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...ward-why-jaguars-ran-out-clock-in-first-half/

Edit - But lets hire Doug Marrone who decided to run out the clock at the end of the half with 2 TOs remaining and with their hand on the Pats throat.

Jags lost the game the min, they made that decision. It's almost as if coaches make weird decisions. Andy Reid anyone? If the Jets / Jags had Aaron Rodgers as their QB, do you think Bowles / Marrone make the same decision?
