I want him to think outside the box and find a way to generate some sort of pressure on the QB. Also, game managing needs to be improved (w/ experience), but I need to see some players break out and put in situations to succeed. That will be the TRUE barometer. Are the Jets developing their players, are they still riding with Bowles? I saw some growth from Adams, Lee at the end of last year. If Darnold looks capable, Bowles will become more aggressive as a coach. We've seen him aggressive in the past, we've seen him very conservative too. He needs to find that balance.

No more of this conspiracy theory bullshit like not playing young players or someone made Bowles start Darnold. If Bowles trusts Darnold, we will know very soon. Perhaps not Monday, but very soon. We will know by his style of coaching.

Didn't have to go far as it turns out because this shit happens all the time under Bowles.

    http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2017091000/2017/REG1/jets@bills#menu=gameinfo|contentId:0ap3000000842391&tab=analyze&analyze=playbyplay

Week 1 last season. Jets down by 9 with four minutes to go at their own 44 yard line (4th n 8) and punt the ball (buffalo takes possession with 3:51 left in the game) They get it back for one play with 1:44 on the clock and no timeouts. (interception)

Who the fuck punts the ball from midfield, down by two scores with four minutes to go?

Is it just me that believes " young player development " means actually getting your players in a position to get better and better. Simply playing young talent is not development. Development is what a good coach does to elevate the player God given talent , improve his contribution to the team and make him more effective at the NFL level.

We can agree on the bolded comment. And that's what I fault Bowles on to-date. Pass rush has been POOR since he's bee here, and while I also fault Macc for this, Bowles needed to get creative and/or flexible in figuring out some way to improve this. It's all well and good to beef up your secondary, but even with All Pros at every spot wouldn't stop a good QB from picking it apart given the time the Jets "pass rush" gives him. Why not change to a 4-3? Why not use some other schemes? Why not try different players? If he's the "genius" defensive mind that his rep says he is, he should be able to figure this out. I'm not saying he should've gone undefeated, or made the playoffs, but his record is sub-par and it's a clear indication of what's he's done so far. This is a make or break year for him. And that doesn't mean he has to make the playoffs, but he DOES have to show major improvement in how the team plays and how he coaches.

To me that summarizes what's wrong with Bowles, and he didn't show any real improvement after that.

You also failed to mention, the previous possession, with about 6 mins left where on 3rd down, McCown just chucked the ball down the field mid-field and caused an interception on 3rd down. The team was horrible. Perhaps, he thought his defense would get some stops instead of giving up more points should they not convert the 4th down.

The team as a whole did not play well that week.

New era. Things change. Atlanta coach did very well for himself.
Pederson and Mac Vay, after three years will look really good IMO. Just saying

That's on Mac just as Bowles in terms of player acquisition. Jets FO has done a horrible job getting an offensive line and also finding pass rushers. Going to a 4-3 won't help (no one can win on the outside), besides the Jets play nickel a crap-ton. He will need to play certain players, IDK find a way to make it work. That's where I will mainly be looking at Bowles as well as the player development.

Mo had his best year under Bowles, so we did have a decent pass rush the first year Bowles was around. It's a shame he didn't want to take a backseat role in a sense in the next years to allow LW to really flourish, now he's taking on double and triple teams by himself.

Seriously? When did his defense ever get some stops? He had a much bigger chance at McCown making a play than his defense getting a stop. If he didn't trust McCown to get it done in that spot, he should've benched him and gone with someone else. And what message did that send to his offense? Finally - and most importantly - it's the mentality of him deciding not to take a reasonable chance with the game hanging in the balance that defines him. If he shows that same mindset this season, the fans will be screaming for his head before mid-season.

I want steady continuity and improvement, you are looking for easy fixes. Feel free to continue to just post what makes look good to you. Plenty of other coaches would've punted the ball if the offense was 110% ineffective with 4 mins left. Didn't the Jags in the AFFCG to a similar thing at halftime? Oh yes they did. They had the ball, just ran the clock and went into half-time.

If you dont have a QB you can fully trust it changes everything, but since you are Vince Lombardi, you already knew that.

Lol, who else are you going with? Petty or Hackenberg? Did you not see them play? Where is Hackenberg right now?

If I am a coach and I see McCown throw a God damn duck with the game on the line, damn straight I am looking for SOMETHING else to spark this team.

People find it difficult to admit they were wrong.. especially on the interweb.

But wait! Let's say your're (Bowles) is right and you get that big stop? Then what? Don't you need the guy you just sent the message to that you don't him to put points on the board? You can't have it both ways. If you trust him to do that, then you need to trust him to get that 1st down. On the other hand, what had the defense shown to make you think they would be able to get that stop?

It was a chikenshit, dumb call, plain and simple.

And BTW: who decided to make Petty and Hack the backups? And further, if you really don't trust McCown to get that 1st down, then yeah, it means you have to give your backups a chance. It was Bowles's bed and he needed to sleep in it.

If I were Bowles after the interception with McCown, more than likely I run calls that get the ball out much quicker, probably try and get Powell or whomever in space hoping they make a play cause McCown wasn't making any the entire game. But I am not putting the ball squarely on his hands right away, everyone on Gods green earth knew McCown wasnt driving down the field that week. Jets got the ball back and McCown STILL threw an interception into triple coverage. Personally, my game-plan would've been much different in WK1, but that's a different discussion. McCown threw the ball 40 freaking times and got like 200 passing yards

LOL... so now your theory is to just give up. You and Bowles are peas in a pod. LMFAO.

Wait... So you agree that Bowles stinks or you don't. Please do some research and post multiple sources / links once you've made up your mind.

Since when does an NFL head coaches First 3 years (Bowles) while being forced to coach behind a complete rebuild (Bowles) consiting of nothing but less than ideal situations (Bowles) and awful circumstances (Bowles) decide their overall potential as an NFL head coach once their Front Office rebuild is complete?

    Because...

All laugh at your insight and knowledge and all say, hello.

An NFL Head Coach can only coach what he's been given to coach and in Bowles case all he's been given were...

    Not to mention...

But hey. What do I know?

Just don't let all of these 'know it all' and Todd Bowles "geniuses" tell you otherwise..

Who told Macc they were acceptable by playing them?

I didn't give Macc a pass on this BTW. But Bowles was the coach and picked his roster. You can't give him a pass on that.
