By development I mean they are actually getting better thru coaching. They become difference makers. A good coach changes his strategy to optimize players strengths. Look no further than at the Rams and what a great coach can do. Bowles still insists in jamming the three four down the players throat.
Mo completely under achieved, and under his tenure he got progressively more lazy. Should have benched his ass. Richardson completely wasted out of position. Has Lee really developed? . Williams, Adams and May, three great players, have yet to find their grove in a defensive line up that actually maximizes their strengths. The defense has gotten progressively worst against the run and the pass from year one till now, not to mention increased lack of discipline and stupid penalties. That is on him.
I'm sorry, but what exactly does Anderson and Sam have to do with developing the defense. Which is my big bitch. The best thing Bowles can do right now is leave that job to Bates and not mingle.

So 2015 was a mulligan year because of Fitzmagic, Darrelle Revis and Muhammad Wilkerson getting huge contracts. Gotcha. So if Bowles isn't the right coach I have to tolerate another two seasons of it. I feel myself sinking into my chair now.

What do you base them having a top 10 pass defense this year? Just because Adams and Maye are a year older, and they added a pretty CB? Still no real pass rush; no real stand outs in the LB corps. More likely they repeat what they showed last year, MAYBE with a little improvement. If that's what it turns out to be, Bowles needs to go.

Skrine isn't playing on the outside is a HUGE advantage. We didn't have a pass rusher last year and they were 17th. Could be close to or at top 10.

But we get it, you dont like Bowles

Correction - I don't like how Bowles has coached this team. But we get it - you DO like Bowles, and will continue to give him a pass.

Na. Sorry, Boozer. But you're not going to get away with saying complete Bullshit like this (above) while hoping it sticks to a wall (in regards to Todd Bowles)...

A "decent roster" his 1st year?

    Which one?

You mean pretty much the same exact roster that only finished 4-12 the year before under Rex Ryan?

But yet 10-6 the following season under Bowles?

    That one?

Or what about that Jets roster under Rex Ryan that only went 18-30 overall (.375%) throughout the 3 season(s) prior to that of Todd Bowles' arrival?

Not a mention of any of the above, no?

Sure doesn't seem like Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan inherited a perennial SB contender to me...

Therefore Boozer the only Todd Bowles you know and speak of?

Is the Todd Bowles that was forced to coach into a 3 year complete rebuild consisting of nothing but roster turnover, roster purge and no chance in hell to consistently "win".

So therefore you have no right to speak about his "potential" because you, yourself have no clue whatsoever.

However, Bowles supporters such as myself and others have every right to point to his Arizona led defenses of 2013-2014.

Your little "Jets argument" can only take you so fat and is both funny and laughable at the same time (to anyone who posses any type of Football knowledge consiting of in depth insight)...

  7. “Exact same roster from year before”? HUH?

    Revis
    Cromartie
    Gilchrist
    Skrine
    Carpenter
    Brandon Marshall
    Leonard Williams
Devin Smith(was actually healthy for a few games)
    Mauldin

Thats alot of major contributors that Rex didnt have at his disposal..

IMO, the Jets don't have to make the playoffs this year for Bowles to keep his job. But he needs to have them play hard every game, put his players in a position to succeed, make adjustments during games, take a risk when it makes sense, use timeouts and challenges properly, not tolerate laziness and lack of effort(we saw some of this last year with Mo's benching so kudos to Todd), and cut down on penalties. If it looks like the team is trending up at the end of the season, then firing Bowles make no sense. If not, then he deserves to be canned.

  9. Your argument for player development is 4 players in 4 years time 2 of which we wont know if theyve really developed until week 5 or so.As for Leonard, yes hes great at stacking, anchoring & occupying blockers. But the next step in his development literally from year one on has been disengaging blocks & getting to the QB.Sorry he hasnt taken that next step..and thats what im referring to when i say “impact players”.Not just solid starters but guys who effect the box score every single week.Finishers.Im not sure we have a single one of those.

Yes, if Bowles does as you say, then he will likely keep his job. But if that happens, I'll be disappointed because I don't think he's capable of taking them to the SB and winning. At best - which he hasn't yet achieved - he's a slightly above average coach, and that's not good enough for me.

All that said, I don't think he'll achieve those measureables.

I dont give him a pass. I consider the circumstances. I am well aware of his flaws and areas of improvement. This fanbase makes up bs statements to try and solidify their hate for Bowles ... like him not playing young players, or whatever conspiracy theory is next. "Bowles says nothing to the media!"

Fair enough. I have my doubts too, but am willing to see if he changes his risk averse coaching style with a FQB and not a retread on the field.

It has nothing to do with "win/loss record" and everything to do with a young team being competitive in just about every game despite a roster purge of longtime veteran Jets.

No one gave our 2017 Jets team a freaking fighting chance at competing but yet fans such as yourself...

Seem to forget how Bowles and our Jets were utterly ripped off, robbed and cheated of the N.E game in all my years never witnessed anything like it.

Or how we knocked off the AFC Championship Game Jacksonville Jaguars in OT and finally best the 10-6 Kansas City Chiefs.

Or how we lost to the Patriots (gm1), Dolphins, Falcons, Bucs, Panthers, Saints and Chargers by only a combined 37 points (-5.2 points per game) and all were within 1 possession.

It's goes way beyond "5 wins".

And has everything to do with being absolutely competitive throughout the course of 12 (out of our) 16 games despite sceptic's and critics claiming and predicting we had zero chance at being competitive for anything more than "0-3 games".

7 of our loses were decided by 1 possession and combined with our 5 wins we competed and competed hard throughout 12 games.

And one could argue that with a better roster Bowles could have easily won 9-10 games but nonetheless he did an outstanding job with the crap hand in which he was dealt.

How many times has Bowles punted the ball inside four minutes, with the game on the line only to never get it back?

    It's not all made up.

Only judge a player (Khalil Mack) and/or coach (Todd Bowles) by wins and losses if it fits your narrative. That's your philosophy, DWC.

Yippie... lets be satisfied with being competitive. I just wanna see progress.. blah, blah, blah. Dogshit. I care about winning. Period.

You quote all this garbage about being so close in so many games... ever think that maybe they lost because the were out coached, out conditioned or out willed? They continuous lose close games and you look back and say well oh gee wiz fellas we almost had that one.

    I say we fraking lost.

See, this is my issue with you: you say I "hate" Bowles, I don't. I "hate" the job he's done. I would LOVE it if he showed me that he's making a significant difference. He came with a re as a defensive specialist and has been given Grade A talent and yet our defense is no better than mediocre if you measure by stats, and worse if you measure by results. His game management and aversion to risk-taking on offense is the stuff of losers. This isn't based on emotion, like "hate", but on results. If you want to try and dismiss my opinion about Bowles by attributing it solely to "hate", then I'll return the favor and dismiss your opinion about him due to your love of him.

With that, we can agree to disagree.

For me its game management. Not using timeouts in the first qtr.because the plays coming in late so we have 3 timeouts near the end of the half and for the 2 min. warning to end games. Also using them at the most efficient time to save the clock. And when to go for it on fourth down, when to punt and when to kick FG. I want him to be more aggressive but not stupid. For 3 years i have not seen improvement in any of these catagories.

Exactly. Other than Brady and Gronk, where have the Patriots been light years better than the Jets? On the sideline.
