One, thats not true. You look for a HC who gets more out of his roster, no matter the level of football. Saying that nobody hires a HC to overachieve is a real head scratcher, its exactly what any and every owner, GM and fanbase wants from their HC. Its is said about every successful HC that he gets the most out of his team. How can anyone possibly think this isnt a asset. Two, you want to fire the guy for underachieving but ignore the fact that two of his three teams have done the opposite and overachieved? Three, youre saying this is a SB level roster and has been? And youve been pissed at Bowles because they havent quite made it? Got to love the idea that Bowles doesnt want wins, playoffs, super bowl and a successful legacy.
We are starting a rookie QB in a week. I highly highly doubt we are getting rid of Bowles. So I'd suggest putting your minds work on something else
None of what you said is what I meant. I'm not caught up on being thrilled that a team overachieves. That is the lowest rung of what you want out of a coach. The only way overachieving should be an attaboy is if you just barely make the playoffs and you get into the Super Bowl. Bottom line is the Jets have no playoff appearances under Bowles and people seem to be absolutely cool with that. By that, I mean fans and of course the owners. He had pretty decent roster his first year and I'm going out on a limb and say they underachieved because they missed the playoffs. We should demand higher standards out of the Jets. Just saying. people pay hefty money for season tickets, the out of market people like me and some other pay for DirectTV, merchandise etc. When does it all come together or is the bar set so low and expectation so low that we are happy because they won 5 games twice?
I'm consistent at least. Funny you didn't mention which 2 or 3 teams you see them beating. With a rookie QB (who I really like) and weak offensive line. If your predictions come through that would be a great start.
Overachieving is totally what its about at this point. He should have made the playoffs in year one. Its a rare season that 10 wins doesnt put you squarely into the playoffs. The rest of it is crazy in that who in their right mind is going to complain about his coaching based on playoffs and SBs as if that cliche shouldnt take into account the roster. No HC, not a one would have turned the 2016 or 2017 roster into a SB winner. You cant possibly blame not winning the SB on the HC. Thats simplistic and short sighted. Unless you actually believe this has been a playoff team that the HC has held back, overachieving absolutely says something about the HC. No matter how much you and those who just hate dont want to realize this very simple fact
Jets are better than the Dolphins and the Browns. The Broncos for all the talk about how tough they are, earned a draft spot ahead of us. Lets see if Patricia can coach or if hes the usual dreck that falls from the Belichick coaching tree
We will beat the Dolphins and Browns. I think we could beat Detroit on Monday too. As long as Brent Qvale isn't starting at LT and Beachum can play, I think the line won't be a disaster in pass protection, but it will be a disaster in the run game.
I totally disagree with the premise that beacause we start a rookie QB Bowles gets a two year pass. The defense has been a hot mess getting progressively worst year after year, as are penalties, and complete lack of acumen to properly scheme to players strength, and take advantage of opponents weaknesses. Sure. I'll give the Offense a two year pass. I'll give that sorry excuse for a DC and Bowles this year to turn this defensive joke around. Or they ar both gone. Independent of win and losses.
The Jets with no pass rush had a middle of the pack passing defense last year (ranked 17th). They should field a top 10 pass defense this year, if they had an elite pass-rusher prospect, the Jets would have a top 5 defense. I don't think the defense is getting worse at all. Cmon LAJet, it is NOT as bad as you are indicating here. Penalties need to be addressed, we will see on Monday. Bowles with a Veteran team (first 2 years) was one of the least penalized teams in the league.
I like how they didn't spell dumb right. Then again the English language is a bitch that takes no prisoners. I would never be able to learn this shit as a second language. So much respect for people who speak Korean, Chinese (all dialects) and can make sense of it. English is my first language, and it's fukking retarded. I before E except before my ass except in neighbor and weigh or some kind of crap like that. EDIT & P.S.: I have a formidable vocabulary, but basically it's all stupid and doesn't amount to a pile of rocks.
If overachieving to 5-11 instead of 2-14 is the best reason for keeping Bowles im not really sure what to say. Not the scheme. Not the player development. Not the PR.Certainly not thevW-L record. The best argument for the guy isnt even a strength or attribute but rather a built in rationalization for subparity. What the hell am i missing here? Isnt 4 years going on 5 long enough to accept mediocrity? Why are folks so adamant about keeping this guy? Still waiting for the magic wand to appear that suddey makes the Todd Bowles Jets anything but apathetic
I hope you can absolutely prove me wrong 101. It will make me very happy. Unfortunately, To my way of looking at progress, I have zero confidence left on the DC, and not impressed at all with Bowles ability to develop young talent so far. Nothing would make me happier than for this team to succeed starting now. From th HC on down.
Out of curiosity, what young talent does he not develop? I've seen this argument before and have yet to see evidence to back up this claim. Leonard Williams Robby Anderson Jamal Adams Marcus Maye Sam Darnold Nathan Shephard All of these guys are 25 and younger, our starting quarterback is 21 years old. I am not defending Bowles on everything but I feel like this is an argument people keep making that has no basis in fact. It's a red herring. Bowles has consistently developed young talent. And if this argument were true, where are all of the "young guys" he did not help develop that are now on other teams? If it were Bowles that is the issue, who then is developing these guys?
Well 2 of the players you listed are rookies yet to play a regular season game.Which of the other players is anything close to a full time impact playmaker? Leonard is the closest but he is not impactful & is he really all that better from his rookie year? Anderson has a chance but not w.o a great deal of uncertainty. Also, when youre rebuilding, player development can take on a more collective meaning. In this case the jets are flooding the roster w defensive youth(What a surprise) to implement Bowkes scheme.4 years in..does this look like a cohesive unit w players comfortable within their roles ready to ascend? They certainly hadnt looked that way heading into this campaign & ill reserve judgement till week 1 but preseason sure did look eerily familar. Even if Bowles is above some of the TGG criticism pertaining to development he is a far cry from “good” in this area.So what exactly IS he good at as a coach?
Whether you think he's a good coach or not, is up to you. I am not challenging that thought at the moment. I am challenging the argument that Bowles does not develop young talent. To say that Leonard Williams is not impactful, is very confusing to me. Not only is he impactful, but he is one of the best defensive lineman in the NFL. PFF has yet to grade him under 84 in one season and he is listed in the top 25 players under 25. Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye have also been very impactful. You seem to have ignored them or are dismissing the impact they have had for us and will have for us in the future. You also seem to have forgotten Robby Anderson who finished last year with 941 yards and 7 TDs. Dismissing these guys as "non impactful" is ridiculous, in my opinion. Not calling them elite is understandable, but to sit here and claim that they have not provided a huge impact for this franchise is just wrong
How many years does it take to build a team that can win at least 9 games? When is 7 wins or less no longer tolerated?
Well, his first year, 2015, he went 10-6. You can't expect an entire rebuild from the ground up and still have consistent winning seasons. It doesn't happen that way, especially with no QB. Over the last 3 years we have had to deal with average to horrible QBs, horrible contracts that killed our cap, and a severe lack of talent. Since Mac took over with Bowles, we have a significant increase in talent. We have a potential franchise QB. And we have tons of cap room to go after the final pieces needed. I understand the impatience considering the history of this franchise, but this rebuild was desperately needed.
