Ill say this..for better or worse we’d break this cycle of tired, conservative defensive minded football. Harbaugh would have the team playing hard, focused & will not be outschemed. Now whether he can win a big game which he hasnt done at scUM & whether hed survive the NY PR game are the burning questions..and big ones they are.But the team would have a different demeanor on the field w.o question
I've been on record stating that very thing and didn't think I needed to repeat it. I'm just resigned to the situation for now that Bowles is the HC...for NOW. And maybe he'll continue to be given a long leash by the Johnsons, but if he continues to show the mistakes he's made every year he's been here, well maybe he won't last the season, especially if one of his mistakes gets Darnold hurt.
I doubt he will go 0-5 to start the year as that's never happened previously and the schedule isn't wild. As far as I am concerned he progressed from his 3rd year to his 4th. You dont like Bowles we get it.
Contrails that was not a shot at you,,,my therapist says its good for me to let out my dislike for Bowels so I saw an opportunity with your post. Harbaugh might be a bad college coach but I would take him over Bowels and over many other choices in a heartbeat.
We start the season with Detroit, Miami, and Cleveland. I have a very hard time seeing us 0-3 after that run, even with a rookie QB and no pass rush on defense.
Coaches rarely get fired mid season Imagine how stronger your argument would be if it were actually 5 seasons? Or better yet if the Jets didnt overachieve, not underperform, in two of his THREE seasons? Or did you think they were an 11 plus win team in 2015 or a 6 plus win team a year ago.
https://www.cbssports.com/video/pla...e-hot-seat-after-michigans-loss-to-notre-dame Does he suck at Michigan =Yes Would I want him as OUR coach Hell Yes !
Regardless of record, if darnold keeps progressing they will not make any changes that might upset that. Nor should they. Fire Bowles and bring in a new oc, new system for Sam or force Bates on the next head coach are both bad options. Everyone just needs to come to terms with the fact that cj signed off on a 2 year plan and its going to take a titanic type of season to change that.
Heres how I believe its going to go. Theyre going to play well enough, win enough even with a incomplete team and a rookie QB to show enough potential where no one is blamed for where they finish. No ones getting fired under those circumstances, getting fired while the team is moving forward They'll go into next offseason with some $100 mil in cap space and will add to the team, being major players in FA, fixing as many holes as available player allow 2019 they contend, will be in the majority of their games while winning a fair share of their games. Thats not going to lead to a losing team and a HC that needs to be replaced and have the team hit reset Lets face it, like it or not, the best case scenario is for Bowles to improve and for him to become at least a capable HC and keep the program moving forward. We've hired, fired and reset far too often. Look at all the successful teams, they usually have continuity with their HCs
Michigan didn't look ready to play Sat night. They are supposed to have one of the best defenses and Notre Dame went right down the field early in the game on their 1st two drives if I remember correctly. Michigan also hasn't beaten a ranked team on the road in long time.
We can beat those 3 teams. Not saying we win all 3, but I like the Jets chances in each of those games. Hopefully we continue to dig through the cuts. Nate Orchard is visiting tomorrow. Could be a decent edge rusher off the bench.
It's been too long since the Jets have fired anyone. Fans are getting itchy. I wonder if Jet fans would be happy with Gruden as the HC? Bowles bashers wanted him here.
They probably will be 2-1. They should beat Miami at home and the Browns on the road but we shall see.
I think this is the most realistic scenario. We’re going to be better than a 5-11, 6-10 team, improve in a lot of areas, Darnold will give us many glimpses of a bright future and Bowles will grow as a coach. Hopefully he becomes that “leader of men” type of coach because he’s never going to be an offensive guru and his defensive “prowess” needs to be bolstered by a true pass rushing specialist. For now just limit the mistakes (clock management, mental penalties, conservatism).
5 years of failure? How? He's only had 3 seasons under his belt. "5 years". And in 2015 as a 1st year head coach he went 10-6 following a 4-12 season the year before (Rex Ryan) and just last year won 5 games despite "know it all experts" predicting a roster incapable of anything more than an 0-16, 1-15 or 2-14 type of catastrophic season. Yea. Right. Some "underachiever" he's been. A.) Do you care to list off the career losing records and career losing percentages of both Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh McCown (with or without "Todd Bowles")? B.) Do you care to list off the greatest head coaches of All-Time record(s) after only their first 3 seasons? No, you don't, now do you? And while you're criticizing Todd Bowles, while you're at it... C.) Would you care to break down all of the roster turnover and multiple amount of starters he's been forced to play and coach dating back to day one of a complete re-build and overhaul of multiple rosters consiting of nothing but turnover and roster purge? Once you can answer all of 'A, B & C' and answer with both knowledge and insight then and only then could your argument against Bowles hold any type of validation but until then Boozer; it holds no weight....
I think its all very hypothetical at this point,,,,could I see them giving this imbecile coach another year AFTER this one ? Yes I could but I think if Mac does not want to be joined at the hip WHEN they do clean house ( I have zero doubt that cleaning house is inevitable its just a matter of when ) and bring in his own HC and not be shit canned with Bowels then I think Todd better damn well improve in many aspects this year. I do not see them starting Darnold as a get out of jail card for Bowels , I think it is for Mac and buys HIM time but Uncle Todd in my eyes is on the clock. This team wins 7 games or better Todd is safe, if they win less than 6 and look bad while doing so I think Todd seat gets real hot, Maybe its just wishful thinking on my part ,,,,But ,,,time will tell.
So in other words a GM now has the right to set up a head coach for failure and get a free pass while doing so? Nice to know (not). Kind of like how John Idzik set up his head coach in Rex Ryan for failure? The only difference, Idzik wasn't given a free pass and was then fired for doing so. Do you mind telling me the types of crap QB's he's set up Todd Bowles for success with as a GM? And their career losing records and abysmal career losing percentages of Ryan Shitztragic and Josh freaking McCown to boot? Petty and Hackenberg becomes a topic for a completely different conversation too (although, not Bowles' problem). What about setting up his head coach with an O-Line and pass rushers? Yea. Right. It's now a "Todd Bowles" problem... I personally love Maccagnan as a GM but that doesn't mean that as a fan I'm blind to the crap circumstances and less than ideal situations in which Maccagnan has literally forced his head coach in Todd Bowles to coach under... throughout a complete rebuild of a team consisting of an insane amount of player turnover and roster purge; behind journeymen JAG QB's dating back to, day one. (key words being complete rebuild, player turnover, roster purge and career journeymen JAG QB's). If Todd Bowles goes? So does GM Mike Maccagnan and will get his walking papers as well and within the form of a pink slip while he exit's right alongside of the HC in which he did it to.
Wins ,,, as far as Mac setting up Todd ,,,um no ,,, THAT IS NOT what I said , not at all. What I said was IMO the coach and GM are not tied at the hip right now----> but that could change.
