Thanks for this post. I have been blaming Mac for the lack of talent and holes across the roster, not realizing that Bowles and Kacy give out the roster spots....
This is all a very nice story but it has absolutely nothing to do with his being able to make the Jets into a winning franchise.
But Sam Darnold as a potentially FQB does; as have all the All-Time great NFL Head Coaches have had (real Franchise QB's). Duh. I'm "oh so sorry" if you (actually) expected greatness out of the likes of Geno Smith, Ryan Shitztragic, Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg and/or Josh McCown and his career losing record of 23-50 (.315%). lol . I will say that both Ryan Fitzpatrick & Josh McCown had their career years under Bowles. He must be pretty damn good with QB's then. Which means I can't wait for him to get his hands on Sam Darnold as our new QB/HC duo moving forward and into the future.
Bill Belichick coached a total of 7 seasons without Tom Brady as his starting QB. In those seasons, he coached 2 playoff games and got one win.
This will be the last year we have to suffer with Bowles then hopefully we’re gonna get an offensive minded coach to help the kid
So now we have to feel sorry for Bowles?? Plenty of people rescued their lives from the projects..so yes good for him...but I wouldn't give him a raise just because he came from Elizabeth..? Cmon now He's making a hefty salary ..more than he could ever dream of making! So the question is are you good at what you do RIGHT NOW..no one really cares where you came from when you have a JOB to do
Yup. A career losing record without Tom Brady as his signal caller. Not only that but by the time he arrived in N.E (2000) the likes of Teddy Bruschi, Willie McGinest, Ty Law and Lawyer Milloy were (all) already there. The man simply got lucky with a 6th round QB in Tom Brady and blessed to have been birthed into a Super Bowl ready defense (because of Bill Parcells). Todd Bowles deserves the same opportunity with Sam Darnold as his Franchise signal caller and a boat load of available salary cap space in order to continue building his team.
Why would you suppose to tell me what I expected from a packet of mediocrity? Anything for an "lol?" The topic here is Todd Bowles, not Sam Donaldson; don't get carried away patting Bowles on the back for that which has not yet happened. And, seriously, what makes you think that Bowles inspired the "career seasons" of Fitzpatrick and McCown in any way rather than have them occur in spite of him?
The real kicker to the OP's timing for posting this is that , for all intent and purposes, Bowles is about to commit to a 21yo as the starter. So how many coaches have had any type of success with this strategy throwing a rookie QB into the frying pan. ? Not Jimmy Johnson and not Jim Mora! So is the op trying to justify his argument about Bowles knowing full well the odds of 2108 .500 record is probably 0 ?
Think Jim Harbaugh's chances of leaving Michigan are higher after that loss. Season is over for the team.
Jim Harbaugh is clearly a better NFL Coach than college coach. He's the direct opposite of Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier types, whose coaching styles are better suited for college kids there for only 3 to 4 years.
Todd Bowles isn't going anywhere before the 2020 season. He's definitely coming back for 2019 after his GM in Maccagnan has the NFL's most available salary cap space to spend of any team within the league. And if our Defense is able to flourish (as in Arizona) and Sam Darnold shows promise? He'll be a hometown Jet for a lot longer. And rightfully so.
Finally, a post that gets me happy. Getting rid of Bowles should be job #1 this offseason. Getting a competent smart multitasking coach would improve our team 1000%.The first 4 I would be ok with. With the first 3 being offensive guys is a bonus. If they go defense again (gulp) I wouldn't mind Schwartz. He would have the Jets defense attacking instead of this sorry excuse for a defense Bowles and Rodgers is running. I' sure some other candidates will appear. Sorry, no more New England coaches.
If the Jets get off to a bad start this year he might not make it till New Year eve. 5 years of underperforming football should get you fired.
Hes not getting fired midseason unless he seriously regresses as a coach and loses the locker room. Very unlikely.
