New York plans to work out former Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey, according to ESPN's Field Yates, and former Ravens wide receiver Breshad Perriman, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, on Monday. The Jets listed Jason Myers as their kicker and have six receivers -- Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, Quincy Enunwa, Terrelle Pryor, Charone Peake and Andre Roberts -- on their active 53-man roster. Bailey, 30, had been the Cowboys' kicker since 2011 and made 15 of 20 field goals in 12 games last season. In his career, Bailey made 88.2 percent of all his field goals, including 27 of 40 from at least 50 yards. Perriman, 24, was a first-round pick in 2015 whose career had been plagued by injuries. In 27 games, he totaled 43 catches for 576 yards and three touchdowns.
Only thing is can Lachlan Edwards do kickoffs effectively? Weird that Bailey doesn't do kickoffs, even though the NFL made it much easier for kickoffs a few years ago by moving where you kickoff 5 yards up. Bailey, on resume, easy decision. Let's hope he's healthy, signs with the Jets, and that Edwards can do the job on kickoffs if Bailey can't.
I do prefer this method bs the grabbing and cutting players At least for a week if kearse is going to be out.
well if we sign him I hope not haha and I see what why you would worry about that for sure. But Perriman's got the genes from his old man to succeed in the NFL and I will also say that Joe Flacco is a difficult quarterback for receivers to play with. Flacco loves the deep fly routes and wheel routes virtually ignores the slant route. Perriman could just be a slant route possession wideout in the NFL. the type of receiver that is great in the WCO. Definitely worth a flier to find out. Especially since the beast is only 24 years old.
I'm sure he must do kickoffs. Mac likes K that have big legs & good touchback %. I don't even think they would have considered him if he doesn't do kickoffs.
Why was Bailey cut? He is one of the best kickers in the NFL. Maybe his injury isn't healed? All I can think of. If he is healthy, then sign him. And not for 1 year either. 5 years, $15 million!
He had a “bad” year last year but was also hurt. He’s apparently had a rough camp too. So did Nick Folk though...
I wonder what is going on with the Practice squad selection. We still have 5 spots open. Are we looking at may be bringing in more waiver casualties tomorrow to upgrade the roster and move some of our casualties to the PS. I know the rules have changed, but Mac seems more slow and methodical, unlike in the past where the PS and the roster end of 53 was a turn stile for days.
He's always done kickoffs. http://www.nfl.com/player/danbailey/2495259/careerstats His touchback percentages were above the league average from 2013-2016, but not last year.
Yeah, makes you worry he may not be the same anymore. Or maybe that walk-on is just a really great kicker!
The walk-on is Brett Maher who was originally a Jet signing in 2013 - lasted 2 months. He's bounced around quite a bit since then.
