Manish is reporting that the Jets made no waiver claims this weekend. Given that they had the 6th position priority wise, they stood a good chance of getting some players. Mac must feel pretty confident in the current roster. There are definitely holes to fill.
Scheduled to work out breshad perriman Monday. My guess is instead of claiming guys they know little about they will target guys they can workout before signing on their terms.
I like the idea of having Perriman in on Monday. He's been mostly a first round bust but he has made some spectacular catches Doubt anything will come of this though. When the Ravens get rid of guys they generally know what they're doing. But his athleticism in going up and getting the ball is impressive. Issue with him is probably he doesn't create enough separation. Just flat out can't get open enough
I just read this and was going to post ,,,u beat me to it ,the question that comes to mind is WHY ? Why are we working out a WR that appears to be dead wood when I would much rather work out some O lineman but I don't see that on the horizon
On another note, the Jets just signed Sam's favorite receiver at USC to the practice squad, Deontay (Tay) Burnett.
I think the issue may also be if they’re a vet and in the roster week 1, their salary is guaranteed for the year. I suspect we’ll sign people next week and cowboy up through week 1.
It does seem very hard to believe that Macc couldn't identify anyone who would improve the OL or pass rush. Of course, maybe he reached out and those players didn't want to play for the Jets. Either way, I don't think there are any "franchise altering" players to be had at this point, so I'm not hitting the panic button (yet!).
How is it the Jets did not claim one single player at any position ? There wasn't at least one or two O lineman that were released that were worth adding for depth ? Not a single Linebacker ? no one ? nada ?
I wonder if Sam just asked the Jets to sign him. Maybe they roomed together at USC and were buddies. I do remember thinking he came across as a bit slow as well as being smallish and lacking strength. But he always did perform better than you'd expect despite his physical limitations which is always a good sign. Shows that he's likely a max effort guy
Remember every waiver claim has to be paired with a release. There’s something to letting other teams claim players and then seeing what is dealt out from that reshuffling. Also the higher drafted players are on bigger deals. You can probably sign them cheaper after they clear waivers. Mac being deliberate instead of a hungry hungry hippo type approach doesn’t concern me much
Sam's favorite target, smart too.... http://www.latimes.com/sports/usc/la-sp-usc-rose-bowl-20170102-story.html
And it's better than the alternative which is the Giants desperately signing 6 guys that were cut because the Giants dept is so atrocious
When it comes to intangibles and such, Burnett has it. And already the natural chemistry with Darnold. Hope he makes it at this level
