I think by that point he was shell shocked. The butt fumble will crush anyone ego. Some QB's get the yips in various fashion. I think Sanchez just started losing what was left of his already shaky accuracy.

I remember that game too well. I think it's when I came to the realization that this great thing the Jets had built the past 2 years had completely fallen apart. It also made me realize singlehandedly how much Nick Mangold nevertheless the entire O-line, drove our previous success.

I see you doubled down on how sour you are--no offense taken. The main point is we have an easy schedule relative to almost all, and I think it's perfect timing because this season is only about Darnold progressing and gaining confidence.

Yeah I remember that game and he took a beating. I think the Eagles game later that season he took another beating if I recall correctly.....

I could care less about perceived strength of schedule before the season starts, because some teams that were supposed to be poor end up being good and some with playoff expectations end up crapping the bed. Lets take a look at the Cleveland Browns for example. After their additiions I think they're going to be a significantly improved team and be a much tougher opponent this year, so in my opinion their record last year doesn't carry a lot of weight.

with our current o-lie: 4-12 at best.
the eagles 3rd string left tackle, an aussie who only played football for about 3 years, looks better than any of our backups .
i would claim him in a second if phiily cuts him, even give them a 7th if i had to, just to make sure i get him to backup beachum, maybe developmental guy to start down the road.

p.s don't get fooled by the preseaon, cause sam is going to see much more sophisticated defenses in the games that count. the hoodie will have plenty of tape on him by the time we play the pats, ditto for the bills.

    DEPARTMENT OF PERSPECTIVE

At this time last year the same poll was started and an astonishing 80.1% of members voting actually ended up predicting fewer wins for the Jets than the team accomplished. Oh Ye of little faith! I would believe that this may have been at least partially influenced by those who actually thought that "Suck for Sam" was a viable course of action for an NFL team. There were a handful of members (6.3%) who actually predicted the Jets would finish the season at or better than even including five who called for a minimum of ten wins! Oh Ye of little...!

I was disappointed to find I had not added my $0.02 - hindsight says I would have called for 5-11, of course. Interesting to note is that on November third a second poll was launched with a much smaller response which had 83.7% calling for 6-8 wins while one predicted an astonishing eleven! I wonder where those green-tinted glasses are today - smashed on the floor or firmly attached to the bridge of someone's nose? (Actually, after curiosity getting the better of me, the 11-5 shot seems to have been facetious because it also included a Super Bowl appearance. At least I hope he was being facetious.)

I voted 5-11....and actually picked most of the wins which was easy the Browns, Miami and Jax ( who turned out much better than I thought )...this year I am between 6-10/7-9.........I think they will do well in the division ( not NE ) and against the NFC...

I didn't vote in the second poll, but I will be honest that I said 3-13 in the first one. However, that does not mean that the Jets as a team played better than I expected, since I believed that either Petty or Hackenberg would play at least 10 games (probably more), and even if they didn't suck they would have growing pains from inexperience. McCown certainly played better than I expected the Jets QB to play (and of course vastly better than Petty did when he finally did get in). Barring injury we know who is going to be the QB this entire season, so it's a very different situation.

Something like this. I know preseason isn’t really a guide, but still, there’s so little talent around Darnold, particularly the line. And the D doesn’t generate enough rush to really be good. Maybe next year though...

Not a fan of that poll..

I've been waiting to chime in on this, and I think it's time.

The OL is the biggest weakness on the team, and that's where the offense starts. That's concerning. However, even without a standout HB, I do like that depth, and think they'll be ok. The receivers are underrated, and we all know it. Sam will have good games, and probably a few awful ones as well. Overall I think the offense will be middle of the pack, maybe later teens to be more honest.

Defense can go many ways. There's a lot of young talent obviously, that could take steps forward to make this a top 10 defense, but I think such leap is too optimistic. The DL lacks depth, the ILB are ok, but the OLB are end of the league bad, and that part matters greatly. The secondary has a lot of names, and a lot of competition, but I think a lack of pass rush will make them look worse than they are. Like the offense, I see the defense finishing middle of the road, probably teens (17-19) overall also.

So on paper, that leads me to believe we won't be the 9-7, 10-6 team the sunshiners are thinking, but not the 3-13, 4-12 team some darksiders are believing.

    7-9.
